to think my colleague should just admit she is on weight loss injections?

At work we have all noticed Sally has lost a lot of weight in the past few months. She is always talking about diets and what she eats and does not eat anymore and makes a big deal about avoiding the biscuit tin in the kitchen. She keeps saying it is just willpower and cutting out snacks.

Last week I walked past her desk, her bag was open, and there was one of those weight loss injection pens in plain sight.

Now I cannot unsee it and every time she goes on about her self control it feels performative.

I am not saying she has to announce it to the whole office, but when she is preaching about anyone can do it if they just try it feels a bit dishonest.

AIBU to think she should either be upfront or just stop making a song and dance about how she has done it all naturally?

I know, I’m so sorry - I was mortified and couldn’t edit it quick enough 😂

It was a good post!

I’ve just had a quick look and it appears that not only is the OP an actual adult, she’s a grandparent. So you’d think in all her years on the planet she’d have learned to say ‘excuse me Sally, I’d prefer if it you didn’t comment on my dietary choices’.

Seriously you looked up my past posts? You are getting really bored now 😂

I will name change for the next one!

Took about 45 seconds.
Which is about the time it would take you to say ‘Sally, please stop commenting on my dietary choices’. You should give it a try 😉

Your husband still not back? Kids still asleep?

I hope he comes back soon and your kids wake up, then you can start bothering them 😂

I am off to focus on my other threads where I did name change 😁

Have fun! And when you get to work, you could try saying ‘stop commenting on my snacks, Sally’. It will change your life! 😘

HowAmYa · 12/08/2025 08:44

OP just let it be. Don’t get invested like this. People hate admitting because of all the judgement. So leave it be.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 12/08/2025 09:00

I felt sorry for the colleague because she's going through a lot of changes. People have noticed and I think she feels she has to justify it in some way.

I don't think she needs to tell people if she's on medication though.

At the same time I think her going on about other people's eating habits is out of order and so I can see why you find that annoying OP.

She'll never learn unless someone says something. She will probably take it in more easily if its done in a nice way.
Best of luck.

Lmnop22 · 12/08/2025 09:02

Since you only inject one a week and the pen needs to be refrigerated, the chances it was in her handbag are, well, zero.

Pretty sure OP is the one being caught in a lie here, not her colleague….

or she is diabetic. I developed sudden onset diabetes at the age of 28. I was already thin and couldn’t explain the rapped weight loss I was experiencing that didn’t stop for months after I was diagnosed. I could tell loads of people were talking about me behind my back. people should mind their business.

@Russiandollsaresofullofthemselves- that must've been so hard! My great-nephew is T1, he has an insulin pump now, some kids at school picked on him for it.

I hope your diabetes is as well-controlled as it can be x

WaterGarden · 12/08/2025 09:06

I don't believe that someone who was pretending to be losing weight through will power would take their syringe to work and have it on display in their open bag.

"I am off to focus on my other threads where I did name change"

There's more from you? Fantastic!!!

I bet you are 'Twiggy' who just started the thread about the colleague - this time, it's one who is too overweight to lift things.

And / or the poster on about people who can't eat everything in restaurants.

The tone is the same and the topics equally petty.

I expect you name changed for those. ETA it appears that you did.

It's literally got nothing to do with anyone else.

I cannot imagine being in the slightest bit concerned about how a colleague was losing weight.

That's really unusual, ime people are pretty much always interested in how someone is losing or has lost weight. It's been a totally normal topic of conversation in every office I've every worked in, even more so since the jabs came along

cyvguhb · 12/08/2025 09:57

Carpedimum · 11/08/2025 23:08

It’s much more likely to have been an epi-pen or similar because the weight loss meds need to be kept refrigerated and there’d be no need to take it out of the house.

If there's one thing I've learned from this thread it's that the pens dont need to be kept in the fridge 😁

There could be many reasons why someone would take the pen out of the house, that doesnt take much imagination to come up with

SomeOfTheTrouble · 12/08/2025 10:08

My office is mainly men. They don’t tend to talk much about weight loss methods.

Name two.

FurForksSake · 12/08/2025 11:06
  1. because they store it in their bag away from nosey family members
  2. because there is no storage issues with this
  3. because they have free will.
SmurfnoffIce · 12/08/2025 11:44
  1. That doesn’t seem to have worked on nosy colleagues. OP was not only able to see it, but also identify it, just be casually walking past this woman’s desk! Surely she’d find a better hiding place if she was concerned?

  2. There are even fewer storage issues with just storing it in the fridge as advised. No storage issues is only a reason to not keep in your bag, not a reason to do it.

  3. Do you do everything you have the freedom to do, just because you can? I have the freedom to dance the Macarena with my knickers on my head. I’m not planning to do that either.

SomeOfTheTrouble · 12/08/2025 11:55

If she had it in her bag to avoid it being judged by nosy family members she’d regret it when she realised she was being judged by nosy colleagues. And to the extent that they’ve made a thread about it online.

wizzywig · 12/08/2025 12:35

She may come undone if tje weight goes on when she does eventually stop taking the meds. Who knows

She may not ever stop taking them, they’re approved for long term maintenance.

lotsofpatience · 12/08/2025 13:17

Expose the bitch.
If she's lying in this instance, she'll lie in other situations and people need to be in the lookout.
She is a fraudster.

She may have totally reeducated herself and relationship with food and never put the weight back on,

Let’s hope so, for her benefit.
