Just that really - screen shot below.

mini skirts , cherries, twirling hair ?

am I a prude or are these just evidence of sexualisation of young women?

I agree op, wth. Especially the first one🙄

MaggieBsBoat · 11/08/2025 13:30

Lolitafying school uniform marketing. Fucked up imo.

Jojimoji · 11/08/2025 13:31

Wow. Agree with OP.

I can't believe just how inappropriate it actually is.

DorothyWainwright · 11/08/2025 13:31

Yanbu. And those teens would immediately be in isolation for wearing uniform like that. Shirts hanging out under pullovers, straight to the head of year for a word.

Primethought · 11/08/2025 13:32

I think the photos are OK, more demure than what teen girls here are wearing irl, but I'm not sure what the cherries are there for...

BlusteryLake · 11/08/2025 13:32

They look more like a gateway to a porn site. Just awful.

faffadoodledo · 11/08/2025 13:33

Yuk.
YANBU

hmmimnotsurewhy · 11/08/2025 13:34

Oh fgs, go take a walk outside and look properly, girls are dressing even worse than this.

Snorlaxo · 11/08/2025 13:34

I’ve seen cherries (and bows) on a lot of clothing and houseware this summer

SusanChurchouse · 11/08/2025 13:35

Don’t like the photo on the left, nor the cherries. The others look quite like what my daughter wears to school. Though she wears tights with a short skirt.

Mousehi · 11/08/2025 13:35

Agree. The cherries!

Also the a* I guess they would say it stands for a star but could 'a fuck' could equally be placed there.
.

Mydadsbirthday · 11/08/2025 13:35

Ugh. Especially the first one. Has anyone contacted new look?

Mydadsbirthday · 11/08/2025 13:36

Could we complain to Advertising Standards?

Sureitwont · 11/08/2025 13:36

The “mouth slightly agape” expression also gives me the ick.

I get that it’s kind of the way poses are done these days, but it’s more suited to half-dressed influencers trying to look sexy on instagram than children in marketing campaigns…

Wirdle · 11/08/2025 13:37

Cherries were on everything this spring/summer, just couldn't bring myself to buy anything with them on for my young DD as it felt icky

Xiaoxiong · 11/08/2025 13:37

The cherries are just grim. Reference to "popping the cherry" I assume <vom>

CrispySquid · 11/08/2025 13:39

Agreed. Horrible. Hate this sexualisation/adultification of young children with this Lolita-aesthetic, sexualised poses and nightclub makeup. These girls don’t even look on the older end of secondary school but more like year 8’s and 9s. Really young. Horrible.

Snorlaxo · 11/08/2025 13:40

The hair twirling is yuk but the pic and top left are giving very Gossip Girls vibes (the original series ) which I assume is what they are going for to attract a teen audience.

Primethought · 11/08/2025 13:50

I'm really surprised at how shocked people are because those girls have exactly the "look' of all the girls I see walking past to school here l, and all the girls at DC's (nicer 😆) school. If anything the girls in the ad have less exposed flesh. I have boys and am thankful I've never had to police this stuff.

MimiSunshine · 11/08/2025 13:53

I saw that ad out ‘in the wild’ so to speak and I agree, it’s positioning is terrible.
yes cherries maybe having their moment but in this context it’s got connotations and is just generally not a good idea.

Pluvia · 11/08/2025 13:58

Very Japanese schoolgirl porn. The cherries are bizarre.

wandererofthekingdom · 11/08/2025 14:00

I think they are aimed at the girls themselves, this is how they want to look based on the girls I see walking to school here daily.

neverbeenskiing · 11/08/2025 14:04

The cherries, in the context of teen/tween school girls, are really inappropriate. It's grim.

spoonbillstretford · 11/08/2025 14:18

I think it's fine, apart from the cherries which are a bit of an odd reference, but being way older than the target market, I could be missing something. It's trying to appeal to the girls themselves, whether it would I don't know, but it does at least show what girls that age actually look like and how they wear uniforms. In fact quite a toned down version in terms of skirt length!

Finteq · 11/08/2025 14:21

wandererofthekingdom · 11/08/2025 14:00

I think they are aimed at the girls themselves, this is how they want to look based on the girls I see walking to school here daily.

But is it the girls who actually go out and buy their clothes.

I wouldn't buy my kids uniform from New Look.
