To think you can’t take a man with painted nails seriously?

ThisSunnyBiscuit · 07/08/2025 21:27

I know people say “it’s just nail polish” but I can’t help feeling like a man with painted nails instantly loses credibility. Whether it’s in a corporate setting or just in everyday life, it gives off a certain vibe that makes it hard to take him seriously.

It’s not about being closed-minded, it’s just that some things don’t translate well across genders. Am I being unreasonable or do others feel the same?

This is an example of exactly what I'm talking about.

But it’s not. It really is not.

In certain spaces maybe

Just saying "strapping a pair of massive fake boobs on" isn't really making that much of an obvious reference either

To me it was a very high profile story, and anyone who is is familiar and following the excesses of hyperliberalism will know exactly what I'm referring to

Mmm maybe you THINK it was an obvious reference when actually it clearly made many people here think you meant something else

Jared McCain. Basketball player.

Paints his nails for good luck, to express his personal style and “because he likes the way he looks”.

https://dukewire-eu.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/duke/mens-basketball/2024/03/29/duke-blue-devils-jared-mccain-sally-hansen-nil-why-paints-nails/73146941007/

One of the reasons I kept painting my nails is I had a game after I painted my nails and I ended up playing really well," McCain said. "You know, I'm not crazy superstitious but if I thought it looked nice and I thought it helped me play better? And so far, it's worked."
McCain addressed that some fans and comments belittle the idea of a man painting his nails, but he seemed at peace with the idea.
"Sorry if that offends any of you guys," McCain said early on. "I know a lot of people disagree, a lot of people don't like it, but I'm just going to be myself and do what I think looks nice."

"Maintains a narrow mid century German moustache, for good luck, to express his personal style and “because he likes the way he looks”."

"Wears pink satin fitted ladies blouse, for good luck, to express his personal style and “because he likes the way he looks”."

That someone likes the way something looks and that it is an expression of their personal style - isn't really an explanation of why that is. It's a given.

Metaphorically linking nail polish to hitler is a truly incredible take

Well clearly they thought you meant being trans

Do you even read the replies before spouting more drivel?

Only the replies that I'm quoted in. Why are you being so rude?

No. If you read my comment, I'm not comparing them, I'm using it as an example to highlight the vacuity of the justifications. I wasn't saying there was any similarity between women's blouses/mid century German facial hair/nail varnish/large prosthetic breasts. If you thought I was, I'm curious what similarities you imagined I might have meant!

Because you are spouting utter drivel, aren't reading any of the replies and just keep making bizarre links which aren't correct

But you asked for examples which weren't to do with "expressing sexual preference" (which I assume you mean, "expressing gender non conformity")

Which you were given...

Examples are things that are somehow linked to an idea or can be metaphorically understood to have similarities.

As I understand it you’re saying justifying wearing a hitler tache by saying you like it has a comparable vacuity to justifying wearing nail polish by saying you like it.

This is wildly funny because Hitler committed a genocide and has an extremely recognisable tache. It would be impossible to believe anyone wearing a Hitler tache isn’t aware that they’re dressing as Hitler and it’s about as offensive as you can get, so yes saying it’s because they ‘like it’ would be insane, whereas nail polish is nail polish and has committed no crimes against humanity that I’m aware of

Inchworms · 10/08/2025 06:25

I think it’s possible to feel a bit possessive of that burden, in a way.

It was just a thought about why the original poster I was responding to might feel funny about it but I don’t know that I can word it better than in my first reply tbh, or not without getting way wordier than a thread about nail polish deserves to have inflicted on it!

Fair enough 😂

He’s given you his explanation: “he likes the way it looks”.

You are trying to assign a different meaning to fit in with your own prejudices.

Exactly

Ask for evidence, look at evidence, claim the evidence doesn't prove a different point

Evidence?

Ffs. There was a legal loophole in Scotland that made upskirting permissive if it was not done for the purposes of sexual gratification. If the accused said it wasn't for their own gratification but for group bonding or some such, this is "evidence" that would get them off.

Evidence schmevidence.
