Confronted swimmer for pool hygiene

My gym has a pool which I’m a regular user of - there are visible signs stating you must shower prior to going in the pool or using the spa facilities.

This afternoon, I witnessed a woman exit the toilet after spending a few minutes in there, wash her hands and proceed to poolside. She did not shower and went straight in to the pool which was busy with families in being the summer holidays.

I (very politely) pointed out to her that there is a requirement to shower prior to using the pool and she simply shrugged her shoulders and looked away.

I wouldn’t usually have said anything, but it’s the fact I know she was using the toilet (and for that length of time, it was clearly not for a pee!) so for me it shows a complete lack of disrespect. Before anyone asks, I know she was in there for that long as they are visible from the changing area.

Can you believe the cheek of some people!!

Are you also the OP who timed her builder in the loo?

😂😂😂

Or manipulating her haemorrhoids.

I can testify that this is a long and arduous task.

Sorry, just read the whole thread. How many of you actually stick a bar of soap up your rectum after having a poo? Am I missing something important here??

I do. Lifebuoy. It's the highlight of my day but I lead a sad little life.

Of course a shower at home isn’t sufficient - and certainly not after an emptying of the bowels!

I honestly can't tell if you are on a wind up or incredibly naive - as above, what exactly do you think standing under a shower for 10 seconds is actually doing, apart from wetting your hair slightly?

Aout25 · 06/08/2025 23:29

PolyVagalNerve · 06/08/2025 21:00

Sounds grim
BUT .. people having a shower before going into the pool, generally just stand there for a few minutes and have a quick rinse ?
if someone like this woman has a filthy arse after having a poo that quick rinse won’t touch the sides …
thank god for chlorine ! And oblivion of what dirty body crumbs in the pool (swamp)

This.

what do you suppose a pool side shower would achieve??

WindyRoses · 06/08/2025 23:30

SweetHydrangea · 06/08/2025 21:34

What were you expecting her to do. Pull her costume down and scrub her arse crack in the shower for you to inspect to make sure she’s sufficiently clean? This a grown women I’m sure she knows how to wipe her backside after having a poo.

Maybe just do some swimming instead of people watching and these things won’t bother you enough to post on Mumsnet.

Edited

This.

OP - you're wrong.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 06/08/2025 23:33

You know babies piss and poo in the water ? Those swim nappies do bugger all.

That's what chlorine is for.

bert3400 · 06/08/2025 23:34

You honestly need to let go of your poo aniexty...do you really think I quick rinse under the shower is going to get rid of any poo fragments in her swimsuit 🤔...maybe you need a private pool where people haven't been in for a few hours prior to entering, so the chemicals can do their work?

Aout25 · 06/08/2025 23:34

LBFseBrom · 06/08/2025 21:53

She might use wipes that she carries in her bag, I always have them. You can't judge what people do in the loo. A pre-swim shower wouldn't be more than a rinse.

I hope you don't flush them?!

Whodathoughtit2 · 06/08/2025 23:42

The piss content of the water and the bum hole cleanliness of other pool users bothers me not at all. I go every week and haven't died of bum swimmers yet. So I just don't think about it and then I don't have to worry about something that hasn't harmed me. Sometimes I don't shower until my next regular shower the next day. I quite like the smell of chlorine (now know it is piss water) on my skin. It makes me feel good as a reminder I've exercised.

What's really weird about swimming pools is that we are practically naked with strangers and pretend not to be embarrassed by all just swimming up and down and ignoring each other except for the occasional shared eye roll for somebody who breaches swim lane etiquette or is excessively splashy. (Or slow men who insist on swimming in the fast lane. Because they are men)

winewolfhowls · 06/08/2025 22:50

Eek is this true? Ours stinks so much of chlorine it's enough to make your eyes water

Yes, it is true. I don't usually mention it because it serves no purpose, just makes people feel worse!

Exactly my thoughts. I always have the quick token shower before entering the pool but it's just for show. There is so much shit in the pool because people don't wash their arses before using it. This has to be done at home where you can really wash it.

WorkItUpYourBangle · 06/08/2025 23:55

goldtrap · 06/08/2025 22:12

I have my own pool and it doesn't smell of chlorine at all. When I asked my pool guy why it didn't smell like a public pool, he said it was because a strong chlorine smell in a pool is due to a build-up of chloramines from the reaction of chlorine with organic matter, especially urine. (And obviously, I don't piss in my pool).

So the question is, OP, did your pool smell of chlorine before your shitty swimmer got in? If so, her shower is moot.

What is my tap water reacting with then? Because it stinks of chlorine. I filter it before I drink it but the bath and shower water has a clear smell of chlorine coming out of the tap.

Ok, that is a bit much. But I've never seen anyone do that, in Spain or anywhere else. Once someone had a poo escape at baby swim and we all got out while the staff did things with nets and chemicals, but that's the worst I've had.

No, I can tell you, that happened. It was awful.

RoseAlone · 07/08/2025 00:00

You're coming across as extremely peculiar OP and not in a good way. You need to have a word with yourself.

Well, that's why I never use public pools. - they're awful!

Internaut · 07/08/2025 00:08

You monitor how long other gym users each spend in the toilets? Why?

LEWWW · 07/08/2025 00:21

Having a shower in a costume without soap before getting in a pool makes absolutely no difference 🤣

bit weird watching and timing people at the toilet though…

LindaYog · 06/08/2025 21:19

I'd assume a grown ass woman knows how to wipe her arse after having a shit tbh. Stop timing people in the loo,you weirdo

Ginburee · 07/08/2025 00:33

I probably would have told you to wind your neck in and stop stalking people in the pool.
You clearly have an issue.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/08/2025 00:34

LemondrizzleShark · 06/08/2025 23:09

Yep not a thing in Toronto either! And Canadians would definitely tell you…

👋

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/08/2025 00:43

I have issues with shoes in the change areas, though. 🙄

How are things in Edmonchuk?

LBFseBrom · 07/08/2025 01:55

ForLoveNotMoney · 06/08/2025 21:29

This is 100% a wind up.

I did wonder. I mean, do people really police what others do, including how long they spend in the loo? I think not.

InTheWindow · 07/08/2025 02:00

You don’t know why she was in the toilet for that length of time. Cold, chlorinated water makes me need to pee frequently so I might spend longer peeing to make sure my bladder is fully emptied. I often wonder what the point of a quick rinse over a costume is, although I do it.

You don’t shower after swimming?!!
