Access to food and limited amounts of recreation so he doesn’t go insane and cause behavioral problems for the staff.

I really can’t see the problem with treating a person with the most basic amount of decency, no matter how horrible they are. It’s not just about not becoming monsters ourselves. Prisoners
who have an incentive to behave are much easier to keep under control. If you treat them as less than human, that is how they will behave.

PassingStranger · 04/08/2025 16:33

Why is he getting these extras though?
What does it mean, their hands are tied?

What do you mean by "extras"? He is just getting what is available to any well behaved prisoner.

You know most prisoners come out. If you treat them like monsters inside, they will behave like monsters outside

You seem to have a fundamental objection to the whole culture and ethos of prison. People are there as punishment, not for punishment

TheKeeperOfTissues · 04/08/2025 21:27

I'd rather they kept that fuckers face forever out of the news tbh.
If the dailyfuckingfail hadn't printed it (and many similar articles) we wouldn't be thinking about him & the other abominations at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

For those pro death penalty, how do you feel about the upcoming death of a USA prisoner who has been on death row so long he now has dementia and no clue what is happening?
I can't get on board with that tbh.

Wtaf has happened to MN in the last couple of weeks? More toxic threads in a few days than in the preceding decade. All of you slavering over the idea of state sanctioned murder should be ashamed of yourselves.

Abortion could also be called ‘state sanctioned murder’ and I’ve had one. Nobody needs to be ‘ashamed’ for their views just because you find them repellent.

Lavender14 · 04/08/2025 21:28

PassingStranger · 04/08/2025 21:16

Exactly. Just give him bread and water and a bit of lumpy porridge now and again.

And if they were innocent you think this would be fair and appropriate treatment?

I'm also curious op - you seem to be pro-death penalty. So would you personally be prepared to take on the role of executioner and actively kill a number of people by whatever means the state sanctioned?

Dolphinosep0tatoes · 04/08/2025 21:29

We had the death penalty for centuries, it didn't prevent murders, rapes, thefts or anything else.

You couldn't be more unreasonable. Move to the ME if you want barbarous government.

AWitchCalledMeg · 04/08/2025 21:29

Sickening. He should be on some sort of treadmill that generates electricity. That is what I'd have him doing, for 12hrs out of 24. He can eat and sleep for the other half, bread and water. I'm not joking either. Cannot stand people who have a fetish for fawning over people like him, wanting them to have a good time.

TheGrimSmile · 04/08/2025 21:32

Didn't you just know it'd be the Daily fucking Mail. I wish they'd just fuck off trying to get the frothers frothing.

Not a single person on here has a "fetish" or is fawning over him.
Even someone who works in a prison has commented saying that you need perks to keep inmates in check... otherwise they take out their boredom and frustration out on their fellow inmates and the staff. Why don't you listen to the people on the frontline and not the DM?
As I recall, there is a huge staffing crisis in the prison service as it is.

So you’re coming to work in that environment then? You are putting him behind his door, dealing with him during the night and the. Unlocking him the next day to put on your ‘treadmill’ are you??

watch out, he will have lost hope and be a tad angry…. Might have got his hands on an improvised weapon or two…. Be careful won’t you..

Sorry, my bad, I didn’t understand that enhanced status is rewards for behaving. You have to keep prisoners pacified or
they are violent and it’s not fair for the prison officers.

I think Pierrepoint also suffered over being an executioner.

According to the article, he’s an “enhanced prisoner”, which means that he will have met certain criteria about his behaviour in prison. It actually makes sense (to me, at least) to have some sort of scheme like this where prisoners can earn or lose privileges depending on their behaviour.

https://prisonreformtrust.org.uk/adviceguide/incentives-and-earned-privileges/

Exactly this. You can't start picking and choosing who the national behaviour management policies apply to, much as many people would like to. The criteria is set and is the same for everyone. To those thinking we should also additionally punish people whilst they are locked up by giving them nothing, spare a thought for the staff having to deal with that daily (prisoner on staff violence is through the roof currently).

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 04/08/2025 21:38

Ashley911 · 04/08/2025 16:35

What do you think should be provided to someone in captivity ?

Absolutely bugger all in his case. Slops and porridge. That's about it.

Pierripoint said it didn’t deter anyone. He put the Nazis convicted at Nuremberg to death. He must have known he killed other people who were completely innocent. It would be extremely odd if it had not affected him.

That is truly grim.

Reminds me of a very old case of a man with learning disabilities who pretty much agreed to plead guilty to crimes he did not commit. He would play with toy trains in prison. When he was due to be executed, he chose to leave the ice cream from his final meal "for after". Awful

I don’t care.

I’m tired of decent taxpayers being emotionally blackmailed - ‘if you don’t give me my benefits I will attack prison staff/neglect my children/harass the public/mug people’

I don’t care. Chuck him in a solitary cell where he can harm nobody. He won’t need bribes if he doesn’t come into contact with anyone.

I used to be pro hanging but not now, it's too quick and deprivation of freedom is far worse. Plus there are certain types who will always have to watch their backs because things happen.

Agree with this. Being stuck in a shithole prison for decades is a fate worse than death.

Yeah, that’s probably a degree worse. Crumbs, what kind of system would allow that to happen? Not what you think of as justice.

Don't be so foolish. My grandfather was a police officer in Yorkshire 1930s-1960s. It never used to be a problem, if people in cells caused a problem they'd get a good beating with a truncheon and no food. And if you were a convicted rapist you'd get a beating anyway. Its a perverse world we live in today - evil is protected.
