Who is fawning over him and wanting him to have a good time?

As I said before there is a strong contingency on this website who seem to get a kick out of demanding more for undeserving people, just to appear enlightened and because they seem to have a weird grudge against decent hard working people.

Don't be so foolish. My grandfather was a police officer in Yorkshire 1930s-1960s. It never used to be a problem, if people in cells caused a problem they'd get a good beating with a truncheon and no food. And if you were a convicted rapist you'd get a beating anyway. Its a perverse world we live in today - evil is protected.

My dad is a retired prison officer - he would be horrified by your suggestion that he should have resorted to violence for violences sake - makes them no better than the inmates

@AWitchCalledMeg

You and I seem to have very different ideas of what constitutes a 'good time'.

He's having a good time compared to what he deserves. He's having a good time compared to his victims. The lack of justice is morally wrong.

bluewanda · 04/08/2025 21:49

I don’t see why he can’t be locked permanently in a small cell with just some bread and water chucked through the hatch though. There’s no need for “luxuries” or mingling with other prisoners.

JamesMacGill · 04/08/2025 21:50

BIossomtoes · 04/08/2025 21:37

No it couldn’t. It’s a terrible analogy.

Of course it could. You’re ending a life using a service provided by the state for that very purpose; what else do you think it could be compared with? I know I ended a life.

But why is it horrifying? If the alternative is plying the vile thing with treats and entertainment for fear he will give the staff hassle. Seems utterly craven and shameful.

Agreed. Mealy mouthed appeasing, the domain of the far left.

That's ridiculous. I think he's about the most appalling human being we have in custody. He has two whole life orders. I don't think it's sensible to put prison staff at risk by treating him brutally. Safety in prisons has to be maintained. How many prisons have you been in, by the way?

Why would they be at risk if he was in an isolated concrete cell?

XenoBitch · 04/08/2025 21:52

JamesMacGill · 04/08/2025 21:46

I don’t care.

I’m tired of decent taxpayers being emotionally blackmailed - ‘if you don’t give me my benefits I will attack prison staff/neglect my children/harass the public/mug people’

I don’t care. Chuck him in a solitary cell where he can harm nobody. He won’t need bribes if he doesn’t come into contact with anyone.

Ah, I see you. An "almighty taxpayer"... a benefit basher. This thread was nothing to do with either of them and you have dragged them in. Your true colours are showing now.

Again, why are you not listening to people who work in prisons... ? who have explained to you time again why it matters that prisoners are not just left isolated with the bare minimum.

You say you don't care. You might when your nan gets put in prison for not getting a TV license and is kept in a concrete cell with nothing but gruel to eat. Or someone else close to you gets incarceratied for posting hurty words on X.

It’s ridiculous. You made a decision for yourself affecting only you. The death penalty is the state taking a life as punishment. If you genuinely can’t see the difference there’s no hope for you.

My nan wouldn’t be guilty of kidnapping, raping, torturing and strangling a 13 year old girl. Nobody wants solitary isolation for non payment of a bill, but Levi Bellfield is the devil incarnate and deserves to rot in hell.

Your true colours suggest you’re a person who has been ‘looked after’ all their life and doesn’t know what it’s truly like to provide for the country or anyone else, only to see your trust abused via ridiculous schemes like this!

KTheGrey · 04/08/2025 21:46

Yeah, that’s probably a degree worse. Crumbs, what kind of system would allow that to happen? Not what you think of as justice.

You had Rillington Place. Timothy Evans, never good at school and with learning difficulties, was convicted of murdering his wife and his daughter in 1950 and then hanged.

In fact the murderer was John Christie, a serial killer who killed 8 people. But he looked respectable and had been a special constable and gave evidence to support Evans being the killer. The police did eventually catch Christie, but by then Evans was long dead.

Have you never visited an old jail like Bodmin? Never seen old jail films like McVicar? There always were 'hatches' (for want of a better word). If there isn't today then there bloody should be. At the risk of sounding like a daily mail sycophant.. prisons gone 'woke'.

And I bet your grandfather could not tell the difference between someone causing a problem in cells to get a reaction, and someone with MH issues.
Often, the behaviour of the past is nothing to be proud of.

I have been in police cells for mental health reasons. Would you think it acceptable for me to be beaten?

It didn’t affect me, it affected the life I ended. And not even as a punishment - just for personal reasons. They weren’t guilty of anything. It’s an uncomfortable debate, but I’m holding the mirror up so you can see one person’s ’shameful opinion’ makes perfect sense to another.
