I work in a Victorian prison and nope, no ‘hatches’

You clearly don’t, since they very much exist.

He was already insane.

Such a pity that he cannot be contained in a pit, chained to the wall to rot.

bluewanda · 04/08/2025 22:52

Let’s hope this one stays behind bars too.

“We currently have cell door hatches installed in Aylesbury, Lodden Valley Reading, Milton Keynes, Bedlington, Weymouth, Cardiff Bay, Wandsworth & Bishop Auckland.”

They only exist in American films though, according to some on this thread.

We dont have the death penalty because innocent people were put to death for crimes not committed, corruption with the police/ courts etc and society as a whole.
There have been many miscarriages of justice so I dont agree with trying to reinstate it,...BUT I also believe that certain crimes should have a life tariff which literally means life not 25yrs.

Internaut · 04/08/2025 23:16

DiscoBob · 04/08/2025 16:31

There should presumably be some kind of 'happy medium' between capital punishment/state ordered killing and giving luxuries to mass murderers?

I would be pleased if Bellfield died, but I don't agree they the death penalty would make society a better place.

Not sure that occasional access to the more anodyne X box games and one cooked breakfast a week really count as luxuries.

And I would be very wary of believing such an obvious clickbait Mail story anyway.

So he hasn’t punched anyone in prison, whoopsie fucking do. He’s only murdered multiple women including a 13 year old schoolgirl who he tortured and raped for hours before strangling her. Leave him in a bare cell with nothing but a tiny window so he can observe the world he will never be allowed to join again.

Do you want to be the prison guard in charge of a load of violent men under this sort of regime who have literally nothing to lose? I wouldn't fancy it.

Why should they be allowed to work ? I would think the lack of that would be worse than not having a games console in the circumstances

Why wouldn't you allow them to work? Surely it makes sense economically as well as just to keep them occupied?

Well yeah. I'm in agreement with you there.
I think we'd like to imagine the likes of Bellfield sitting in a bare room with zero stimulation. But if he's playing by the rules of the prison that won't be the case. Nor should it be necessarily. No matter how much we hate him.

I can think of at least one Victorian prison which isn't on that list.

A poisoned dart shot through the peep hole window in the door should do the trick.

Or maybe we should paralyse their arms? Wouldn’t be so dangerous then, would they? Couldn’t operate an X Box either : win/win

Edited

Well, that 's one way to demonstrate to us all that you know sod all about how sedatives and paralysing agents work, so you'd never get the job anyway.

AWitchCalledMeg · 04/08/2025 21:46

Don't be so foolish. My grandfather was a police officer in Yorkshire 1930s-1960s. It never used to be a problem, if people in cells caused a problem they'd get a good beating with a truncheon and no food. And if you were a convicted rapist you'd get a beating anyway. Its a perverse world we live in today - evil is protected.

Yes.

Just whose running the prisons?

How long do you seriously think it would take for the army to mobilise and travel to get there?

You happy to sit and wait for their arrival in the middle of a prison riot? How many people are you taking down with one taser? What do you think would happen after that? Do you not think you might be targeted then for revenge creating a cycle of escalating violence?

Why would you advocate for more senseless violence when we know there are less violent ways that promote positive behaviour in prisons and reduces the risk to prison staff?

It's like saying - you know what would help stop school shootings - let's give teachers guns. Because more guns helps stop the gun problem. Its creating a race to the bottom.

Nat6999 · 05/08/2025 00:39

He may be an enhanced prisoner, but he will spend the whole of his sentence looking over his shoulder, someone will have a go at him one day. There will be a pecking order even within the monsters on the wing he is on, prisoners who will consider his crimes unforgivable, who may also be serving a whole life order & have nothing to lose if they throw a kettle full of boiling water laced with sugar to melt his skin or stripe him with a home made double bladed knife which leaves a cut that is impossible to stitch. Ian Huntley had his throat cut on the same wing Bellfield is on. If you want to know more about Frankland Prison, look at Behind the Bars TV on YouTube, it's done by an ex prisoner of Frankland & will tell you exactly what his sentence will be like.

Bbq1 · 05/08/2025 01:13

This evil man raped and murdered a young teenager, raped other girls and sexually assaulted a young disabled girl. He's utter filth but it comes across on this thread as if some posters are concerned about him being kept comfortably. Wtaf.

Ashley911 · 05/08/2025 03:24

@JamesMacGill there's nothing wrong with women in society or further, people with mental health issues, being "looked after"

He shouldn't have been allowed to change his name and convert to a faith either.
It's obvious he's done it for some sort of attention as he previously wasn't that bothered.

He shouldn't be allowed to convert to a faith? That's just bizarre.

You want to murder people, so you're not all that different.

Catladywithoutacat · 05/08/2025 05:00

This is posted to cause annoyance. Who is sending him in a Xbox and who is paying for his fry up unless he is working in the kitchens himself
I doubt his family has anything to do with him which means he has to work I prison and they earn like £5 a week

Maybe we should just build something in the middle of the ocean with no chance of escape. Drop the food in by parachute. Survival of the fittest.

I'd be interested in reading your response to the comments about your Singapore point.

Gettingbysomehow · 05/08/2025 09:38

They don't have cleaning staff in prisons to dust the vast luxury tvs and xboxes. The prisoners clean the prison and cook the food. They even do personal care for disabled prisoners. The misconceptions on this thread are amazing 😂

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/08/2025 09:47

Perhaps he’ll have a heart attack from the fried food and sitting playing x box and then you’ll be happy?

Seriously though, the death penalty is not the answer. There will inevitably, always be some miscarriages of justice in any system - I’m not saying this guy but there will be some. If you’ve killed them, there’s nothing yo can the do. At least you can release someone when it comes to light during a prison sentence.

Plus it’s shitting for those who have to participate in a system of state sponsored killing.

The punishment for crimes is having your liberty taken away. For a very long time in the case of serious crimes. Giving prisoners things that make them behave is sensible. I wouldn’t enjoy being sat in a cell playing these games for hours on end, unable to see the world outside.
