Denmark zoo advertising for unwanted pets to be donated.. They will be euthanised and fed to the animals...
If it was April 1st I would assume some sick Fool.

What's the difference between eating one animal or another? Is there a hierarchy? Why would be ok to use a farmed rabbit as food but not one that had been a pet?
All meat is murder.

KrisAkabusi · 04/08/2025 13:49

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. They are looking for things like mice or guinea pigs for their reptiles that can only eat whole small animals. They buy them anyway, this actually saves animals as it cuts down on waste by using unwanted pets that may otherwise die of neglect.

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 04/08/2025 13:53

Rabbits, chickens and guinea pigs are what they are asking for

Aka small animals which reproduce quickly and are likely in abundance

Also horses. Who are notoriously put down for injuries which don't affect their health.

Better to sustain another life than simply be thrown away

ObtuseMoose · 04/08/2025 13:54

They're not exactly expecting people to donate Fido or Mittens and I can't see where they've used the word pets. If you eat any kind of meat you're contributing to animal cruelty, it's unlikely the infamous mn chicken has lived a fabulous life.

Wondered when someone would say meat is murder.

Animals have no concept of "murder" because they don't have human morals 🤦‍♀️

I’ve read nothing of the sort. How dare u

NegroniMacaroni · 04/08/2025 14:08

Ahh this is so Danish and practical, love it.
A while back a Danish friend of mine was over for lunch, we went into the garden and found a half-dead pigeon, probably mauled by the neighbours cat. Danish friend asks if I have a frying pan, and proceeds to promptly smash the poor pigeon, swiftly ending its misery. I wish I were that practical.

BlueandPinkSwan · 04/08/2025 14:16

What about cats and dogs being used at the zoo? Plenty of them get dumped on charities.
I'm totally against this whole idea I guess if they are pts that's something but even then, it doesn't sit right with me.
Not sure what the answer is though.

Campingisnexttogodliness · 04/08/2025 14:24

Not the same zoo - but also Denmark - that butchered a healthy 2 yo giraffe in front of visitors including small dc..

I thought you were going to say your friend wanted the frying pan to cook it!

yes I agree with posters that they arent asking for Carrots the pet rabbit or Bella your pet cat.

They want animals they can feed to their reptiles in the same way we go and buy a burger!

Animals eating other animals is murder? No it isn’t, it’s nature. Don’t imagine lions or tigers would fare very well on a vegetarian diet.

And again, what's wrong with this? Its not like the kids were on their own and wandered across it. It was an advertised dissection display.

Allotmentannie · 04/08/2025 14:44

Oh that's an interesting idea. Excellent.

Bingbangboo · 04/08/2025 14:48

Didn't Berlin Zoo do something like that during covid - listing animals that could provide a food source for their bigger animals if necessary, as income from visitors had stopped?

sueelleker · 04/08/2025 14:49

When Gerald Durrell opened his zoo on Jersey, he was given the carcases of male Jersey calves to feed his carnivores; as they were unwanted by the breeders (who only wanted the females for milk.

It’s things like this that make me feel extremely British (and unpractical).

Don’t go ruining outrage with fact!

DeanStockwelll · 04/08/2025 15:16

I can understand why people feel uneasy about it.

I wonder how the pets are put down , I wouldn't of thought it safe ( or financially viable) to inject them with a very heavy sedative , enough to kill them as we would do with our pets at the vets , and then feed them to another animal .
Granted feeding a mouse to a lion , no issues but feeding a mouse to a snake , wouldn't that risk harming the snake ?

Haha she probably would have if it weren’t for my pathetic wimpering. I had to hide indoors while she did the deed.
