Many years ago Marks & Spencer sold a cheese and apple sandwich. It was grated cheese mixed with some kind of mayonnaise and with chunks of apple. It was amazing. Then it stopped and it never returned.

Would I be unreasonable to email their head office to ask for them to reintroduce it?

It was very good and very convenient. Just disappeared from the shelves.

Still available in France. I think there is a website called French Click you can get it from.

Galaxy swirls and vice versas. I also remember a bright orange cheese spread in the early 80's I loved.

Think the cheese spread was Kraft. In a glass jar.

I loved that cheese and apple sandwich. My student union used to do a similar one, could have it in a baked potato too. As pp said, they’ve just resurrected the chicken tikka one so you never know. They def still do the cheese n celery one. I lived on those, the cheese ploughman one and Wensleydale and carrot chutney one when pregnant with DS 3. Also miss the potato deltas.

M&S used to do this amazing chocolate cake in the late 80s or 90s; it was in a bar shape with portions demarcated by chocolate rosettes and covered in vermicelli. It was filled with ganache, first time I’d heard that word! Miss their pecan danish desert too. Time for a pecan revival, pistachios are making me feel too old.

I've a list...

Smiths Cheese Moments - marmitey crunchy outside, deliciously soft cheesey inside.

Smiths Chipsticks - Ready Salted flavour. The best, why on earth discontinue it?!

Bernard Matthews Cheese Hamwich - yes they are still around but they changed from a triangle of reconstituted ham flavoured turkey with very cheesey processed cheese on top, wrapped in breadcrumbs, to a triangle of reconstituted ham flavoured turkey mush, with snippets of cheesey stuff mixed in... wrapped in breadcrumbs.. and are now disgusting. I mean the original thing was pretty vile but they were... moreish ... The replacements are just vomitworthy.

Turkey twizzlers, whatever was in that saucey coating, I need it back in my life.

Niknaks Cheese flavour. Cheetos crunchy are a close second but they're not as 'sweaty feet' cheese as the Niknaks were.

Spira - obviously.

Pacers - chewy mints, last seen in the mid 80s.

I totally agree on the Hamwichs. They are awful now and not cheesy at all.
Also on the subject of frozen food that is now awful - Findus Pancakes ! The meaty ones were gorgeous. Really meaty and chrispy.
Well now they are completely inedible. I saw some a while back and as I hadn't had them forever decided to get some. They went straight in the bin.

Sara Lee Gateau. I really do miss it.

Sara Lee also used to do a pecan danish which was meant to serve eight which I would happily eat by myself.

PennyRest · 04/08/2025 05:29

Thank you so much! I had no idea you could still get it!

Vidal Sassoon almond scented shampoo. Came in a dark red bottle.
M&S mini chocolate cakes with half a walnut on which they sold in the 60s.
Pret A Manger vegan hummus and red pepper sandwich with bearnaise on walnut bread
Body Shop strawberry and sea salt body shampoo. In fact, the Body Shop as it was in 1975 with refillable bottles and hand-written labels

The vidal sassoon shampoo can still be bought on ebay from japan but it's about £50!
In a wastefully nostalgic moment I once bought some and it was amazing!

I also miss body shop coconut shampoo from the 80s.

Smilesinthesunshine · 04/08/2025 05:35

Nivea soft moisturiser. They now do a vegan one and it's awful.

Real McCoys Grilled Onion Flavour

Tomato ketchup Monster Munch

Coconut Boost bars

Golden Wonder Sausage & Tomato crisps (I know technically they haven’t gone, but they are SO hard to find these days, since those bastards Walkers cornered the market with their oh so bland crisps 😩😡)

KindKhakiCrow · 04/08/2025 05:36

Terry’s Neapolitans. Used to get a box at Christmas with our stockings and I’m not sure if they really were as good as I remember or if it’s the nostalgia but I would love to see these make a comeback.

M&S need to get their team on this thread!

Years ago they did a prawn and egg sub. Sounds grim but was delicious. Then that disappeared so I swapped to their ham and egg sub (with some token lettuce). Then that one disappeared too!

Now when I pop in for a sandwich I spend just a fraction too long thinking how none of the current options compare!

Catsandcannedbeans · 04/08/2025 05:47

Tesco used to do a cinnamon loaf thing. It was a brioche loaf, around 2003-2006. I remember having it as a treat when we lived in our first house and I was like 4-7, I still remember when I stopped getting it in my lunch box. My mum normally shopped at Morrisons, but my dad would go and get it on the way home from work. I also remember once I woke up and ate the whole load on my own and my dad found me laying on the kitchen floor covered in crumbs and thought I was dead.

M&S did a cheese and celery sandwich, that was so tasty.

I saw this in M&S at the train station yesterday. They still do it but maybe not everywhere.

Sainsbury's Potato Triangles crisps from the late 80s/early 90s. Red packet and I could easily scoff a whole share bag in one sitting.

YES! I think all the supermarkets had their version, we were Tesco shoppers and would buy these every week 😋

Daffodilsarefading · 04/08/2025 05:55

Nutty bars.

Maille Bearnaise sauce in jars - just why ? I cannot find one as good . I'd love to know why they stopped it. Progress eh ? 😂

I’ve been looking for it. Love it with steak. I didn’t know it had been discontinued ☹️

Maggi cooking papers. Don’t remember the proper name, but they were cooking papers, with lots of different herbs/spices that you wrapped round chucken to fry it. The garlic one was my favourite.

About 8? years ago palmolive changed their formula for their coconut shower gel which was so fresh and clean (and didn't really smell like coconut), now it smells fruity and sickly (still not particularly coconutty) I was devastated 🙁
