Many years ago Marks & Spencer sold a cheese and apple sandwich. It was grated cheese mixed with some kind of mayonnaise and with chunks of apple. It was amazing. Then it stopped and it never returned.

Would I be unreasonable to email their head office to ask for them to reintroduce it?

Walkers Sensations Lime and Thai spices crisps. They were the best crisps ever.

Yorkshire crisps do Thai and Lime. Maybe have a Google for suppliers? We get them from Chatsworth Farm shop (how posh are we 🤣)

For very valid reasons, the formula changed, but - Doctor Collis Brown drops, for upset stomach and diarrhoea. It was originally devised in Victorian times, used by army and explorers in tough conditions to keep the troops going, but when I was a child, nobody had got around to changing the prescription. A few drops were stirred into a small glass of hot water, and as you sipped, you could feel warmth spreading through your stomach, any griping calmed down, the nauseous feeling subsided , and purging stopped. Fantastic!
Unfortunately, the active ingredient was opium, and if not diluted correctly, a small bottle could deliver a fair old addictive slug! Pharmacists eventually raised the alarm at the number of bottles some people who were getting addicted were buying was alarming.

On a lighter note - Cadbury's chocolate made to the original recipe.

M&S apple, celery and walnut coleslaw.

Waitrose chicken thighs with apple and walnut stuffing.

When I was a child and we went abroad we always used to to get lemon Fanta which was lovely and you couldn't get it in the UK
You can now but they must have changed the recipe as its sickly sweet now🤮

Zempy · 04/08/2025 11:36

Oh god yes! Original 1960/70s Benylin had something addictive in it! Fantastic stuff.

There are still loads of Maggi products - like the recipes mixes and cook in bags, but none of those are the actual ‘papers’ that I like unfortunately.

The papers definitely do still exist. My parents still use them regularly, usually to be found in places like Home Bargains and B and M.

cachous, those floral sweets sold in chemists!

You can still get these online, but they often call them by different names now, and often they're just referred to as floral sweets.

I have checked both my local Home Bargins and B and M and neither have them. Someone else suggested trying one of the Eastern European or Polish shops, so that’s my next port of call 👍

Sainsbury Taste the Difference vegetable paella with aioli. The only tasty ready meal suitable for my various vegetarian, dairy or gluten free avoiding family.

Ruthietuthie · 04/08/2025 12:05

Has to be the Brannigan's Beef and Mustard crisps. I LOVED those. And yes to Spirals.

Pourtea · 04/08/2025 12:09

Lindt used to do a chocolate bar filled with pistachio creme. You couldn't buy it in that many places (so obviously I had to buy many bars at one time :) ) but bizarrely Twinings sold it in their tea shops, and so did my local co-op.

I've noticed lately that there do seem to be a few bars with pistachio in them but they're none of them the same, or as nice, as the Lindt ones :(.

M&S Iced Peach Tea in a can - they brought it back but it wasn't as nice
Original Cadburys Dairy Milk recipe - it tastes different now
Boots Rowanberry Shampoo and Boots Trio perfume
Aztec chocolate bar
M&S Tuna layered salad
M&S Creamy chicken chunks in a can. I'm vegetarian but this might turn me

M&S still sell Chunky Chicken in a tin - it's my ultimate comfort food with rice!

Maybe not the same, but they do Lindt balls with pistachio filling now, and apparently they're really good.

That's because of the Dubai chocolate craze ,£10 for a chocolate bar!

Cabdiraxman · 04/08/2025 12:20

Pot Noodle Seedy Sanchez flavour.

4naans · 04/08/2025 12:21

M&S syrup dessert thing. It was sponge soaked in syrup with custard and cream on top.

beguilingeyes · 04/08/2025 12:55

Does anyone else remember Elseve Balsam shampoo? It was the best smell ever.
I can't wait to try the re-released M&S chicken tikka sandwiches. I used to love those.

TabbyBeast · 04/08/2025 13:04

KP Oriental flavour peanuts. Never found anything remotely similar

Lairymary · 04/08/2025 13:07

We used to gorge on drifter bars in the holidays (and lots of other junk food , thanks Grandma) and one magical summer we discovered banana flavour drifters 😋

They do? Do you know where they sell them? I'm willing to put them to the test ...

@persianfairyfloss beat me to it! Also was going to mention that Lush do their own version of them.

Thank you both of you! Oats just aren’t the same.

They have them in most supermarkets, and places you can buy boxes of chocolates, now. I think they're cashing in on the Dubai chocolate trend. I can't eat them because I'm vegan, but my dad's a pistachio lover and he's been raving about them.
