300 children from Gaza to be brought to the UK for free specialist NHS care

According to the Sunday Times. That's nearly as many beds as there are in Great Ormond Street, where the average waiting time for paediatric surgery is 15 weeks (which is fairly typical nationwide).

Why is it mysteriously possible for government to deliver these showy, headline-grabbing measures (I know we already knew it could happen from COVID policy) but not to just make systems work well in an ordinary way?

There’s no need to import any more people to drain NHS resources. The Middle East has some of the best hospitals in the world. Let them look after their neighbours. Will they?

If you had bothered to read the full thread you would have found the answer to that.

So all 300 have major trauma?

Why would that surprise you, given these are children from a war zone? Honestly I have never seen a thread as nauseating as this one. I wish @MNHQ would zap it.

Have you been to A&E recently by any chance?? It’s a bloodbath.

It's not and you really need to stop with the hyperbole. My friend was treated in the nearby A&E recently for a fracture. I assessed her the day before and suggested that she make the trip. It wasn't immediately urgent. I made her dinner as well. What have you done lately to help family or friends?

My concern is after they come here and get better … are they just going to be sent back? I hope not. I saw a documentary where a mother had her very ill child helped and then they were sent back to a war torn country with no medical aid for the child to get better.

They will probably claim asylum and stay.

Great Ormond street’s website?

Sorry no , project pure hope

If you had bothered to read the full thread you would have found the answer to that.

The answer being they have indeed taken thousands so could easily take more. Hospitals in the ME have never-ending funds and resources unlike the nhs. They also don't have 15 week waits.

Wtaf! I haven’t read anything from Farsge or anyone else. This is clearly insanity when you look at the waiting lists alone. We can’t afford to do this! So many on here on benefits think there is a magic tree churning out the millions to pay for all of this !

300 children are going to make a massive difference?

This is the very least we can do.

Exactly. We should be proud to do this.

I’ve reported you by the way. You don’t get to call me or anyone else unpleasant names on here.

I would say the whole thread should be pulled, but maybe it is best that it stands. A reminder that there really are disgusting racists in the UK and we need to be on our guard against them

This really is the worst thread I have ever read on MN.

Bloodbath? What do you mean? I was there all last weekend (covering the residents who were on strike).

MarieAndTwinette · 03/08/2025 21:08

It is so strange to see some of the awful opinions expressed on this thread. On a forum founded for and by mothers.

Agree. Its heartbreaking. This country is losing its humanity. The parallels with Germany in the past are really quite terrifying. What have we become if we are angry about helping children.

So why do you think the UK has agreed to treat up to 300 children?

Why do you think other European countries are helping out?

Are you not able to understand that there are some specialities/areas of expertise that are only available in certain countries?

For example: have you never seen crowd funding for sick UK children to go to other parts of the world for specialist treatment?

It is not racism to point out it does not make sense to move patients to the UK when there are of plenty of other healthcare facilities in nearby Arabic nations already helping and able to do more.

These charities need to use their common sense and think what is actually better for their patients.

Let's see if we see more of Project Pure hope, their members etc on the tv in coming days to share more details of their plan.

It's also just the right thing to do.

To think it's outrageous that we can pay for 300 Gazan kids (it is the NHS paying for this - the philanthropic stuff is separate) but not British kids? The paediatric pain management services in NHS England has a waiting time of c17 weeks.

This isn't about not treating kids from Gaza (although I knew some people would choose to read it that way). It's about the political choice to make children in the UK wait months to have essential surgery or pain treatment. Why is nobody protesting about that?

You're sick in the head. Thousands of children have died as a direct result of the West supplying Israel with weapons to kill innocent children and civilians. Tax payers paid for Ukrainians to come and live in the UK, and they We're provided housing and benefits.

We don’t have waiting lists for major physical trauma, they go straight to treatment.

I agree.

The worst thing about this thread is that how open and public people are now about their racist ‘coming over here’ thoughts.

It’s absolutely grim and I fully blame Farage, Reform and ilk for spreading such lies about ‘foreign people’ (which was the term used on this thread I think)

I can't speak for other posters but my objections have nothing to do with racism. I'd feel exactly the same if the children were white Europeans, Americans, Australians et .

So you have no humanity for other people who are in need?
