300 children from Gaza to be brought to the UK for free specialist NHS care

Fragmentedbrain · 03/08/2025 01:33

According to the Sunday Times. That's nearly as many beds as there are in Great Ormond Street, where the average waiting time for paediatric surgery is 15 weeks (which is fairly typical nationwide).

Why is it mysteriously possible for government to deliver these showy, headline-grabbing measures (I know we already knew it could happen from COVID policy) but not to just make systems work well in an ordinary way?

Jesus Christ- the state of some of the comments on this thread.

Many of these kids have serious injuries such a limb loss etc and are utterly traumatised. i am glad a tiny proportion of my taxes are being spent on helping this kids.

Am sure Nigel the cunt will have some nasty racist thing to say about it which I where I assume some of the comments on here are coming from.

Terrible.

Totally agree
Some of these comments are vile and disgusting. Never been so ashamed to be English

I didn't say they must share your culture. I said language barriers and cultural differences will make a distressing time for a sick dc even worse.

'Project pure hope' should understand this obvious fact and carry on getting patients treated in other Arabic countries. There are plenty of them nearby with fantastic facilities. They've assisted with thousands, another 300 shouldn't be a problem.

That’s such nonsense.

These kids with their limbs blown off will appreciate being treated anywhere. And many GOSH doctors volunteer in war zones themselves.

Or is there another reason why you don’t want Palestinian kids in the U.K. I wonder?

Fragmentedbrain · 03/08/2025 19:56

EmeraldShamrock000 · 03/08/2025 19:51

First dibs? How many children in the UK have had limbs blown off lately?
How many children in the UK are suffering mass starvation? How many children in the UK have been deprived of water, areas plagued with disease, bits of human decomposing around them?

There are children in the UK who will die prematurely because of health waiting lists.

I assume Project Pure Hope understands its business better than some random on the internet. Presumably the specialist treatment these badly injured children need isn’t available in ME countries. It’s why some of the wealthiest people in the ME come here for healthcare.

You don't care a jot about Palestinian children, never mind their feeling's of distress.

I think the relentless bombing was far more distressing than visiting a hospital in a foreign country.

Oh nevermind a 15 week wait. Doesn't matter apparently.

Livelovebehappy · 03/08/2025 19:59

cardibach · 03/08/2025 16:25

If your DC needed the kind of emergency care these children would need they wouldn’t wait either. And we aren’t paying for it, so no money is being diverted from bringing down waiting lists further by this initiative.

But presumably the doctors and consultants treating these children are the same ones who treat the children here, ie whether we pay for them or not, it still results in children here having treatment delayed, because the doctors will be prioritising the children from Gaza it seems….

marshmallowmix · 03/08/2025 20:00

nearlylovemyusername · 03/08/2025 19:26

You are misunderstanding.

If you read Sky (free link) very carefully they are trying to be impartial and they specifically mentioned private treatments as another avenue. The boy with facial injuries was funded privately.

But these 300 children and their families incl siblings will be treated by NHS and funded by government.

This is what I’ve been saying it’s tax payer funded the 300 announced today…

As I said the boy with facial injury a few days ago was privately funded….these ones and their families are being treated on the NHS and paid for by the government/UK tax payer 😮

LittlePigRobinson · 03/08/2025 19:25

There are humanitarian crises all over the world. How many foreign children do you expect to be treated before UK children get a look in?

Are you involved with getting humanitarian relief to children in other parts of the world?

And why do you have an issue with that?

UK offering humanitarian aid to children wounded in a war, what do you think is wrong with that?

Livelovebehappy · 03/08/2025 20:02

BluntPlumHam · 03/08/2025 16:32

You don’t be silly and hiding behind ‘Hamas started it’ or it’s all ‘Hamas fault’ is clearly not being bought by anybody. See the worldwide protests and public pressure everywhere. Israel is an occupying apartheid state which is now systematically starving an entire civilian population specifically targeting children.

Said circumstances were born from Brits meddling like many other plunders and blunders.

The world wide protests are against the deaths of people in Gaza, and wanting a cease fire. The protests are NOT about the UK being to blame for it….which is what you’re accusing the UK of.

LittlePigRobinson · 03/08/2025 20:03

I agree those are terrible things but I don't agree that the UK welfare state should foot the bill when we have so many people here, in the UK also needing treatment/sitting on waiting lists.

The UK welfare state (of which the NHS is part) is funded by UK tax contribution for UK citizens/foreign citizens with a right to work etc.
It is not an international welfare system paid for by the UK tax payer.

In an ideal world we could afford it, but we don't live in an ideal world.

Fragmentedbrain · 03/08/2025 19:56

That is not the children from Gaza fault. The NHS has been cracking at the seams for years, similarly to the HSE, a lot of it is bad management.
I don't disagree that immigration is costing the UK billions, make cuts, open centres, stop paying for hotels, but helping DC should be a priority.

GrammarTeacher · 03/08/2025 20:03

These will be major trauma specialists. Specially skilled healthcare professionals. This will not have an impact on waiting lists for treatments.
GOSH is a global specialist. The skills they develop and practice may well save the life of a British child one day as well. They have done similar for children affected by war for decades. This isn’t just for Palestinian children.

Project Pure Hope first brought over a young boy who needed facial reconstruction surgery after being wounded by tank fire.

The horror of that alone- a child’s face being destroyed by tank fire- ought to be enough to silence any supporter of Israel’s actions.

If your child or my child’s FACE had been shot at from a TANK you would not care for one second where he or she was treated or who by.

Thank God we are not in Gaza

No, it means those doctors will be treating these children outside their contracted NHS sessions. Instead of treating private patients.

@DuncinToffee the NHS is on its knees and even more delays since the recent doctors strikes …we’ve been waiting almost a year for urgent treatment and can’t hang on much longer…I know others with children in similar situations we are flailing our own …that’s the issue …we can’t save the world when the NHS is in such a mess …we don’t have ad finitum resources…

Can someone help me to understand this?

As far as I know some history of famine, e.g. siege of St Petersburg during WW2 when about 1m people died of starvation or Holodomor in Ukraine which killed several millions, parents were dying first because they were giving whatever food they had to children, kids were dying last.

Why children other than babies who need formula are dying of starvation before adults in Gaza?

Please no shouting, I don't doubt for a moment that there hell on Earth in Gaza, but I can't quite understand this.

I agree.

The worst thing about this thread is that how open and public people are now about their racist ‘coming over here’ thoughts.

It’s absolutely grim and I fully blame Farage, Reform and ilk for spreading such lies about ‘foreign people’ (which was the term used on this thread I think)

I’m glad you finally see that another 300 children getting treatment shouldn’t a problem. While it’s fantastic that the NHS is able to do this, it’s a tiny number of kids, isn’t it?

Nothing of that has anything to do with these children.

You can be angry about the NHS underfunding whilst supporting the treatment of these children.

It must be Pavlov’s NHS you are talking about- simultaneously staffed and kept afloat by immigrants and yet being destroyed by immigrants.

Or schrodinger's maybe?
