To be shocked about this?

My friend just said that they went on a coach trip to wales yesterday with her children. One of which has had chicken pox since Tuesday, so only a few days before. She said she’s not all scabbed over either. To me, I’m quite shocked they would do this, especially as these coach trips tend to have older people on them, maybe babies/pregnant people.

I couldn’t be friends with people like this.

Sundaybananas · 02/08/2025 12:04

That’s such a completely shit thing that she did.

FullOfMomsense · 02/08/2025 12:09

People still socialise with covid, I'm sadly not surprised by this selfish behaviour anymore. I bet your friend would've gone ballistic if they saw someone else with active chickenpox, or if her child caught it while there.

VaseofViolets · 02/08/2025 12:15

I had my eighth miscarriage as a result of someone similarly selfish doing the same thing. Oh well, as long as she’s happy, why give a toss about anyone else who might suffer for it?

Suednymph · 02/08/2025 12:18

Pregnant WOMEN.

No I am not shocked. People and their thoughtlessness do not shock me anymore. Sadly.

MissyB1 · 02/08/2025 12:19

The sooner they add the vaccination to the other childhood vaccines the better.

Talkingfrog · 02/08/2025 12:26

It should be something that shocks people. Unfortunately, with a lot of people being selfish, and inconsiderate of others, it doesn't shock me. Hopefully there will be no consequences for anyone else she came into contact with, either on the coach or where they visited in Wales. At a guess the mother would probably be the first to complain if someone else did something that resulted in her or her children being ill.

Ooodelally · 03/08/2025 17:32

Your friend is a selfish dick and frankly, you should tell her so!

Panterusblackish · 03/08/2025 17:35

I'm old.

I've never had chickenpox. If I get it, I could be very ill.

I still wear a mask when I have a cold, a habit I picked up since covid to stop others getting infected. It's not hard to think about the greater good.

She's a selfish irresponsible cunt of a person.

Most older people will have had chickenpox either as children or from their own children so they need not be a worry to you.

Notmyreality · 03/08/2025 17:38

Yes I wouldn’t take a coach trip to Wales either.

Figgygal · 03/08/2025 17:40

She's a selfish prick
I'd distance big time

I was invited to a friends house, when my son was three, and when I arrived one of the other Mum’s was giving their son calpol. ‘Oh, is he not well?’ I asked to be told ‘yeah, he has chickenpox!’ By which time my son had gone in and was playing with the lad.

Nice 🙄

Needless to say, my son then contracted chickenpox ☹️

Pregnant people??? Wtf

If someone is pregnant theyre a woman.

OhYeahOhYeah · 03/08/2025 17:43

What a shitty human! That is just so selfish.

Apart from the poster just above you and probably many more.

Why are you trying to minimise some people’s shitty selfish behaviour?

Even if you had chicken pox as a child, it doesn’t make you immune to catching it again and it could turn into shingles, which is very nasty indeed!

I had chicken pox as a teenager and my dad caught it off me and really suffered with shingles. He’d had chicken pox as a kid but it didn’t prevent him getting shingles.

Not every older person has children either. Two of my siblings in their 70’s don’t have children.

Moellen54 · 03/08/2025 17:50

Not everyone gets chicken pox as a child. My kids gave it to me when I was 31! And it was awful. I was off work for 2 weeks!
Extremely inconsiderate of this woman and I'd be telling her so

Frugalgal · 03/08/2025 17:54

Absolutely shitty, selfish ignorant behaviour.

The thing is, not so long ago, this sort of behaviour was not seen as thoughtless, people once held chicken pox parties to encourage the spread in order to catch it young and get it “over and done with” The same with colds etc, not so long ago it was perfectly normal and accepted to send children to school or go to a workplace with a nasty cold. Im not saying I would do what this person did though, I have seen children in my DD’s nursery with conjunctivitis/chicken pox/ impetigo at pick up time and I’ve been mad! Things are different now especially after covid and we are more aware of germs etc and vulnerable people

Why, unless you have a genuine good reason that comment is borderline racism

Where would you go on a coach?

Jaxhog · 03/08/2025 17:58

It's selfish shit behaviour. My Mum and I went on a weeks coach tour to Scotland, only to discover that another passenger had Covid. They coughed and spluttered throughout the final coach journey home, not even covering their mouth or wearing a mask. My 93 year old Mum caught it and was extremely ill as a result. Some people just don't care about others.

This is meant kindly, please educate yourself on this subject because it’s very worrying if you think OPs friends behaviour is in any way acceptable and harmless.
