There are so many wonderful examples of these, please share your favourites. Bonus points for links.

I remember one when OP was annoyed if the cost of children's birthday gifts weren't higher than the cost of hosting the party per child.

And the classic from a few weeks ago when OP thought it was ok to block the shared driveway and thought their neighbour who lived at the end was the unreasonable one.

I bet there are better ones out there though...

The one where OP invited a romantic interest on holiday, realised she didn’t like him that way and then went AWOL, then booked him a flight home the same evening and he had no idea what he had done wrong 😂

Oh please someone find me the link to this! Sounds mental

It's got to be the supersoaker one. Sorry can't find it right now but think it's in classics, will try and search later.

I also found one fuming about people who pressed the button on traffic lights, but then crossed when there was a gap in the cars so that by the time the lights changed to red cars had to stop at an empty crossing funny. Yes it might be mildly annoying but the OP couldn't explain how it actually affected them once the button had been pressed they were stopping either way, it wouldn't make any difference to them if someone was actually crossing in front of them or already half way up the road.

Those stuck in my mind because they're funny and because the OP was so clearly unreasonable 99% of people disagreed with them, the other ones I remember are the ones that blew my mind how many people think so differently to me (as in I read the heading thinking "what a silly question, of course it's going to be 100% YABU to then be completely gobsmacked at the responses) are boys over 8 using a female changing room and one years ago about if there was a fire would you save a child or your dog/cat.

Edited

Oh my ex used to insist on waiting so we didn't piss driver's off. He was actually quite an intelligent bloke both of us non drivers btw. But trying to explain to him the red and green men work in with the traffic lights they just let pedestrians know when it's safe to cross as the traffic lights aren't always in view. Just went in 1 ear and out the other.😂😂😂

Rival child benefit thread

Spare room in holiday cottage so that it was free if someone needed a break or was ill. And for some bizzare reason OP was convinced her child would have to share with her uncle

Butchyrestingface · 31/07/2025 00:02

I can never get over the husband and the OP's university assignment one, and what he did to it in a fit of orgasmic rage.

Sadly, that one seems to have been removed.

Just today, there was a post for a recipe for 1 (ONE) person that involved a whole BNS, 500ml of cream, something like 1.5 tbs of chilli powder, etc.

OP insisted that it was real & not a troll post.

Sounds very much like this "recipe for one"

500g pasta.... that's just to start 😆 I think there's 3.5 tbs chili powder in this one.

Sorry, not aibu- but ridiculous nonetheless

Not really an unreasonable AIBU, but there was one a few years ago about a dog running onto someone’s picnic blanket and causing mayhem. There may have been wee or poo involved or I might be making that up, but there was definitely scoffing of food. There are similar threads on Mumsnet from time to time (there was one a week or two ago) but the OP’s description of what happened had the tears rolling down my face. I wish I knew where to start looking for it.

There was 1 a few weeks ago no wee or poo involved. The woman and child ran away and the dog eat all their food. Took a while for owner to come looking for the dog.

Topsyturvy78 · 31/07/2025 00:13

I'm not sure if it was an AMBU but someone had planned to name their baby Jimmy for a boy. But they found out they were having a girl so wanted to name her Jimberly.😂😂😂 Omg the comments.

The one a few months back where an ex teacher who came across an ex pupil in the care home her husband was in who was rude to her. It transpired the op had been really abusive as a teacher but wanted to know if she should report the carer for being rude but got 99% piled on for being abusive when she was a teacher. I was the first one to reply

I remember that 1 as well.

I remember that, but the one I was thinking of was a few years ago and I’m pretty sure it was on a beach rather than in a park.

The one who refused to say why her child would be sharing a room with their uncle in the holiday home... so that an empty room could be used if someone got ill. Or something

Yes to this! I think it was a wind up, tho…

Topsyturvy78 · 31/07/2025 01:13

1 I will always remember I think it got deleted I can't find it. But her brother had taken in a nephew. Not long before the OP's child had a birthday and received a Lego set of brother worth about £50. So when a short time later it was the child he had taken in as his own birthday. They got him a DS all the other children in the house had a DS he liked playing on them they wanted him to have his own.

So OP's DC starts winging saying that's not fair. OP thought the child should have had the same amount spent on him. Even though he was living with them full time. They threw in that he had also had a bike bought for him when he went to live with them. The family go on bike rides so of course they didn't want him to be the only family member without a bike. The OP couldn't see that they were wrong and that it was a gift to make him feel equal to the other children in the house.

I actually didn't like the sound of the op and felt a bit sorry for Barbara.

Why?

ohnotthisagain2025 · 31/07/2025 01:31

The penis beaker is the only reason I ever learned of the existence of mumsnet :) It made it to Twitter, and I was intrigued.

It's quite a few years ago now but I still remember the woman who was furious with the sharing arrangements devised by the Frank family in hiding- obviously Mrs Frank should have gone in with the girls and Fritz Pfeffer with Otto. Pure madness (or maybe conspiracy theorist).

TBF, I have always been baffled by that one. What kind of mum puts her teenaged daughter in a bedroom with a strange man?

Me too. I remember saying the same thing to my mum not long ago. I didn’t realise it was an odd thing to think!

ScruffMuffin · 31/07/2025 01:52

OMG!!! I have heard of screaming in the Sistene Chapel, but never read it before. Well, I just started reading it, and didn't even making it to the end of page 1 before I was shaking with mirth and had actual tears streaming down both cheeks. I'm trying not to wake anyone else (or have an asthma attack, which is what happened last time I spent ages laughing uncontrollably), so will resume at a more sensible hour!

Could I have handled this better? Made him leave | Mumsnet

To me, most of the AIBU are in the wrong forum, and what MN needs, among other things, is an Etiquette forum, which is where most of them belong.

ohnotthisagain2025 · 31/07/2025 02:21

JFC that screaming in the Sistene chapel one is a corker.

Dave and the canestan. I'm not sure if it was an AIBU but it's now in Classics.

PennyRest · 31/07/2025 04:46

That absolutely mad one about dolphins being arseholes. Funniest thing ever and if anyone can link it I’d love to read it again. It was just SO unreasonable.
