Why did I drink 2 bottles of wine!

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 14:57

So, I was making a Sunday roast yesterday, opened a bottle of wine and before I knew it 2 had gone! This is not a regular occasion and don’t think I have ever done that before. It was over the course of about 6 hours but I am paying for it today.

can anybody else manage 2 bottles?

Why? Because you have a drink problem and hopefully this is the first step you take in admitting that and beginning to address it

Rubbish. OP doesn't have a drink problem. How.many.times.has.she done this.or.have you just diagnosed based on this one post

Enjoyed that did you.... although your liver won't thank you for it. There is no such thing as one off as far as liver poisoning is concerned. The fact you can drink 2 bottles, by yourself when not even at party, that's dangerous behaviour and probably you're an alcoholic. You obviously expecting this sort of comment anyway, so no shocker there, otherwise why would you come on here and say such unreasonable thing! Are you a mum, hope your kids are grown and have flown the nest!

But..ahem...each to their own.

This. ^ The apologists on this thread are startling. You couldn't make it up!

I pray for the health (and the liver) of some posters on this thread. 🙏

Not even at a party!! Shocker 😳!!

Would it have been ok at a party then? Or better?

Marosanne · 28/07/2025 20:40

Yes

SunnyPrague · 28/07/2025 20:42

Ten units per bottle = 20 units in one sitting.

NHS guidelines say 14 per week, spread out over the week.

This is classed as ‘hazardous’.

Marosanne · 28/07/2025 20:45

Great, if all of you judgmental condemnatory bastards are living perfect lives, how dare you diagnose other people as alcoholics! You're a medical expert, are you??

Ahem - try reading the OPs posts and you’ll know about children.

Way to go 👏 feel sorry for anyone who comes to you for a bit of support. I’m sure you felt that rush of superiority when typing your wonderful “advice” but I’m also sure the OP will see it for what it is. Bias judgement for self gratification.

user1476613140 · 28/07/2025 21:06

I struggle to drink a small glass of wine these days. I just cannot tolerate alcohol any more.

I would 🤢 at two bottles.

MoonWoman69 · 28/07/2025 21:07

Blottum · 27/07/2025 15:27

So are you going to ask someone close to you who was there yesterday what they thought of you on two bottles of wine yesterday?

Why do you keep insisting OP does this? You sound like you know them?! Do you?!

Liss19 · 28/07/2025 21:07

I could drink 2 bottles over 6 hours and i dont even drink that often, ill go on a night out about 7 or 8 times a year and will have a few drinks.
On a normal week ill have 1 can of cider, if that, most of the weeks i wont drink anything.

If it was a one off for you then dont worry about it, if that ends up happening repeatedly then thats when i would be worried.

When i was younger our first drink of the night was a pitcher of cocktail each and a bottle of wine to share between the 3 of us 😅 then multiple shots and drinks throughout the night lol

Robinredd · 28/07/2025 21:15

Blottum · 27/07/2025 15:04

If it is not a regular occurrence, surely you’d have been pissed as a fart?

Why on MN do people need to change the narrative?

You don't know the OP. If she said it's not a regular occurance then there's no need to try and fill in the blanks.

Before anyone comes for me I'm basically tee-total. I did cane it in my twenties though! I'd be hanging for a month if I drank two bottles of wine. My last drink was two years ago and after 2 glasses of wine on an empty stomach I didn't feel right til mid week. This is coming from someone who drank a half bottle of vodka before a night out when I was younger.

Don't beat yourself up OP, just don't make a habit of it.

TheSilentSister · 28/07/2025 21:19

It happens OP, don't beat yourself up too much. You're aware of it and feel crap, that's enough.
I've taken to buying a box of wine as it's cheaper (2 bottles) and I'm fine drinking 1 bottle/half, not so if I drink more.
You've had a recent break up, give yourself a break. Tomorrow you'll feel fine about the wine.

It really doesnt matter. She's an alky. Period. That kind of drinking is what makes people shit themselves. I tried to think of a way to justify it, but failed miserably!🤣

Well I’m pleased to report that when I’ve drunk a couple of bottles of wine in the past I’ve never once shat myself. I also didn’t become an alcoholic.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 28/07/2025 21:32

Well I think it’s pretty obvious why you did it, you’re adjusting to your relationship break down and had a bit of a self medicating moment. You’ve been feeling shit, and the wine made you feel good. Totally understandable. Even without knowing about the break up I wouldn’t be thinking it was a big problem if it’s a one off. You’re a human being and human beings make mistakes. I wouldn’t drink two bottles of wine myself, not because I don’t make mistakes, but because I’d either doze off or getting a splitting headache before I’d finished the first bottle. I’ve done other stupid stuff though. Can’t think what at the moment, but I definitely have. Stop beating yourself up over it. Honestly, given the situation, there are far worse things you could do. You made a mistake, I can’t believe you’re going to repeat it having suffered so much for it. Some people on here enjoy being horrible to strangers, I think it makes them feel superior, just ignore them.

Only if it’s a regular occurrence. Alcohol damage is cumulative and you can drink to excess over many years before you feel the effects of it. Not saying it’s right, but as a one off it’s fine.

The ‘apologists’ know the facts - mainly from personal experience. Either their own or close friend or family. Mine is from a SiL who drank on average two bottles of wine a night for over twenty years. It was only when the cumulative effects kicked in that she had any symptoms and by then it was too late. As a one off two bottles of wine doesn’t mean you’re an alcoholic. At all.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 28/07/2025 21:42

It's happened now. You got carried away, it's easy to do this with wine after a few glasses and I've done it myself on occasion. We live and learn.....as long as it doesn't become a habit!

Coldtoesinthebed · 28/07/2025 21:44

Aw lord worst platform if you have more than 3 alcoholic beverages throughout the year you are 100% alcohol dependent 😂 though I personally don’t drink more than one glass alone there are lots of things people aren’t taking into account. First and foremost it’s not a regular occurrence, were there family around maybe also drinking? Also depends on what wine you were drinking bearing in mind wine can be anywhere between 5% - 14%? I could easy drink 2 bottles of wine at 5% if it wasn’t a school night, over 6 hours, especially if there was a full meal in between, and no I am not an alcoholic 😂

lackofvitamindd · 28/07/2025 21:46

I had 7 bottles with 2 friends the other evening. I was fine the next day but…. I doubt I’ll drink again for a month or so…. Depends on the context

whatsit84 · 28/07/2025 21:52

I reckon a bottle or so over 6 hours would be doable with no real next day effects, but think I would be on the verge of being a bit sick after two, were you?
