Why did I drink 2 bottles of wine!

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 14:57

So, I was making a Sunday roast yesterday, opened a bottle of wine and before I knew it 2 had gone! This is not a regular occasion and don’t think I have ever done that before. It was over the course of about 6 hours but I am paying for it today.

can anybody else manage 2 bottles?

Funny I should see this thread. I drank a whole bottle of red wine last night and boy do I regret it. I had horrific nightmares, slept really badly and have felt depressed and sick all day. I swear, alcohol is the single most overrated thing in the world.

telestrations · 27/07/2025 17:35

Just to say when I broke up with my ex husband I found I could suddenly drink an enormous amount without passing out or throwing up which I would have done previously or since

Not sure if because I effectively running on a mix of adrenaline, cortisol and caffeine.

Anyway look after yourself OP, let the guilt pass and treat yourself to a nice hot bowl of salty ramen (trust me!).

Yeah this. ^ It smacks of attention seeking. Bit like a thread on here the other week, about smoking, where multiple posters came on (around 2 dozen) to say how 'great' smoking is/was, and how they love it so much (or miss it sooo much coz they quit some years ago.) And it was apparent how cool they thought they were filling their lungs with noxious cigarette fumes.🙄

See also people who smoke cannabis, and people who 'do drugs'/used to 'do drugs.' All seem to think they're dead edgy and cool. (Like the 'I can sink 2 bottles of wine in one sitting' brigade, who mock and deride anyone who doesn't drink much alcohol (or any at all...)🙄

What a shit way to speak to an OP looking for support. OP clearly doesn’t think what she did is edgy or cool, or she wouldn’t have posted.

DoNotIron · 27/07/2025 17:36

Not being arsey, just wondering if this is AI-generated.

FFS. Is this where we are now? Picking over the finer details and assuming AI if something doesn’t add up? How depressing.

Anyway Mrs Chatbot (I mean I don’t care - you’re in my iPad😆) my answer is no I couldn’t drink that amount of wine. Not without my head morphing into a concrete block. Even the thought of it is giving me a headache. But then I’m a total lightweight these days. I don’t think you should feel bad or guilty if it’s a one off. Did you say anything stupid or embarrassing to anyone? Did you do anything weird to your Facebook status? If not, it’s probably safe to forget about it and move on.

Craycraycatbaby · 27/07/2025 17:37

Don't worry op. You've said it's not a regular occurrence and you dont normally drink that much! I easily can if I like the wine and in the right mood. I drink most weekends and nothing all week as I go to the gym before work every morning and need to sleep well. Just because I might drink two bottles of wine at the weekends certainly doesn't make me an alcoholic 🙃

PinkyFlamingo · 27/07/2025 17:38

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 15:31

No I just feel guilty about it

Well you've came to the wrong place, some people will convince you you are an alcoholic!!

PinkyFlamingo · 27/07/2025 17:39

And I could easily drink two bottles of wine over 6 hours! Me and my friend do, once every 6 weeks or so. Over a few hours, no!

supersonicginandtonic · 27/07/2025 17:46

@Flightyflora ffs! I also work in substance misuse and you know as well as I do that. 2 bottles of wine as a one ff, drunk over a long period of time, is nowhere near dependency. Yes a one off binge but nothing else 🙄

Wow. You sound nice…

ThatLilacTiger · 27/07/2025 17:54

I could easily put away 2 bottles in 6 hours but would be crawling the next morning because I almost never do it. Sounds like you were just enjoying yourself and having a rare treat on the weekend, not sure why you're concerned.

Blottum · 27/07/2025 14:58

Why? Because you have a drink problem and hopefully this is the first step you take in admitting that and beginning to address it

Er no, we’ve all done something like this at one time or another

Isitchristmasyett · 27/07/2025 18:00

I know this is an online forum and people are entitled to their opinions, but I would rather be an alcoholic than be stuck up my own arse.

Are you sure this was just a one off ?
if it isn’t you need to be honest with yourself.

if it was then keep it just that a one off.

I think some people forget how alcoholic wine is! 2 bottles is between 7 and 10 pints of beer depending on the strength. As a one off not a problem (especially with the added regret of a monster hangover!), but for the people who do it regularly it can be quite eye opening when you think about it that way. I saw this as someone who used to drink over a bottle a night, thinking that as it wasn't a large volume of liquid it wasn't an issue, but realised I was actually getting very pissed every evening and really damaging my health!

Mayyouleave · 27/07/2025 18:03

Op you are fine!! If you can eat get yourself a takeaway and sit down and watch a film. You'll be feeling better by tomorrow.

NewbieYou · 27/07/2025 18:04

I only did 2 bottles when I had an issue with alcohol. That’s minimum 20 units. You won’t have been sober again until 20 hours after you started drinking. Hope you didn’t drive the next morning.

I haven’t been fit enough to drive today!

Tomorrow is another day...

Meanwhile, this is what junk food was invented for 🤩

WorthySloth · 27/07/2025 18:14

just had 3 pints of cider before cooking dinner. Nowhere near as much as I’ve had the last couple of days while I’ve been away. Absolutely not alcoholic can take it or leave it but out listening to a band? I’ll take it 😁

Appletrig · 27/07/2025 18:18

Bless you OP. You just split from your kids dad, he’s with someone else already, you let off some steam. Write it off, keep hydrated, tomorrow you’ll feel so much better. Onwards and upwards, look for other things for treats for yourself.

That’s another issue, how could he just move on so quick? Not that I want him back

It's not 'pearl clutching' for people to think/say that necking TWO bottles of wine in one sitting is too much FFS! Hmm Not everyone enjoys getting rat arsed, and nursing a hangover for 2 days, and risking damaging their liver.

Defensive much? Wink This type of thread always amuses me. You can see the binge drinkers - who drink far too much alcohol - shooting onto the thread with their lame sarcasm, thinking they're hilarious, with their attacks on ANYone who isn't a big alcohol drinker.

As I said, defensive much?!

Get a sense of humour.
