I’m early 20’s, and to be honest am a bit stuck on career choices. My dream is to become a forensic psychologist, however the current job market in this subject is terrible, and I’m paranoid about wasting time and money, over several years for a degree/s which I will end up not using!

AIBU to ask what your career is?

Honestly, you should be on a really good wage. Not the fuckers sat behind desks making money for others, for example. You do the most important job.

Ah, that's kind. I'm very fortunate that I love my job as much as I do.

I would like it to be more money though. I see some salaries on here, and I wonder what it must be like to earn that much and never have to worry.

If I could go back in time, I don't think I would do anything different. I'm very lucky!

Patent attorney. I’m in-house, and I love it! It’s such a varied job. You need a STEM background and then a training contract. The professional exams are fairly brutal, but it’s well-paid and fairly 9-5 once you’re qualified.

Same here. Stumbled into pretty much my perfect job. Get to use my brain every day, work with fascinating people, do very well salary wise, and mostly manage a normal 9-5. It's well worth considering for anyone with a STEM degree who wants to maximise their earning potential while doing something really interesting with excellent prospects once you get in the door.

Software engineer. I love it and retrained to do it. Best decision I ever made. Complete autonomy, work remotely (if you want, can also go to an office but fuck that), very good salary, flexible hours and get paid to solve puzzles and build cool stuff with minimal interaction with other people. For me its perfect and it's allowing me to move abroad and get out of the UK due to the ability to be completely remote.

Receptionist and accounts for the local paper. Genuinely love it. It's a proper old-school community-rooted job.
