DP’s new football flag has given me the ick!

DP is a big football fan and they have been promoted so he is excited for the new season to start. He goes with a group of 5/6 mates and they always have a flag to take to away matches. To mark their promotion, they’ve ordered a new one.

DP took delivery of it yesterday. It is an England flag with the club badge on it. They have added the text ‘On the charge with Farage’ 😩

Instant ick…am I overreacting!?

My thoughts were also on a children's event, so I apologise for that, though it applies the same way.

If not a sponsorship slogan, what is it?

Just something they’ve decided to print on it. Maybe read the OP again. All the info is in there.

Welshyma · 26/07/2025 21:23

Ugh. Wanting people to know they’re bigots.

What’s that got to do with a (banned) political slogan on a flag?

”on the charge with Farage” is in the op and the ick that gave. That is what I was referring to. Not quite sure of the banned bit?

Middleagedspreadisreal · 26/07/2025 22:10

Burn it.

He says it will be fine to take in as stadiums only check the size of flags rather than the content.

Your DH is wrong. The ‘content’ on flags can be checked. My lad has been taking his flag to matches for years and 50% of the time it gets checked for the wording. Luckily he is not daft enough to have anything political written on it - just his team badge and name of our town.

If he ever takes it abroad to a match it will 100% be checked.

Why are so many people anti-English and seemingly despise the Flag of St. George?

Maybe a different reaction if it was a Palestine flag?

There’s always a Palestine flag flown at Celtic matches. Can’t say I’m keen. DH is a super fan but doesn’t really like it either.

We don’t have uncontrolled illegal immigration, so the rest is a bit moot.
If you mean t(we’re are more asylum seekers than you would like, say so, but it’s a pretty callous and racist thing to say. Plus we take fewer per capita than, for eg, France.
Edit: political elites? Are you including for eg Rayner and Streeting? You may want to look at their backgrounds if so.

Edited

We grant more people asylum than France. They may let more make claims but we grant more.

Here you go:

Praising Enoch Powell’s “Rivers of Blood” speech
Farage named Enoch Powell as one of his political heroes and said the “basic principle” behind Powell’s infamous anti-immigration speech was correct. That speech is widely condemned as one of the most racist in British political history, warning of violent consequences if immigration continued.

Saying he’d be uncomfortable living next to Romanians
In a 2014 interview, Farage said he would feel uncomfortable living next to Romanians. When asked why that would be different from, for example, Germans (like his wife), he replied, “You know the difference.” This was widely condemned as racially stereotyping an entire nationality.

Defending the use of a racial slur about Chinese people (I don’t want to write it here but it’s unfortunately a widely known one)
When a UKIP candidate used the racial slur “ch__ky,” Farage defended it, saying it was a term many British people used casually when going for Chinese food. His comments were condemned for downplaying and normalizing racist language.

Using the “Breaking Point” anti-immigration poster
During the Brexit campaign, Farage unveiled a poster showing a queue of non-white refugees with the slogan “Breaking Point.” The image was criticized as racist and compared to Nazi propaganda, as it implied that non-white immigrants were overwhelming Britain.

Japan hardly takes any asylum seekers. In 2023 they granted asylum to 303 people. Tokyo is over 95% Japanese. When you go to Tokyo and see that it is mostly just Japanese people are you disappointed?

JHound · 27/07/2025 00:00

Just…..why…..?

TheGrimSmile · 27/07/2025 01:35

That'd be the end for me, I'm afraid.

He says it’s light hearted and will ‘upset all the right people’ so between them they found the idea hilarious.

Hopefully it doesn’t get in!

It's like those people who used to think Trump was "funny". Yeah, he's fucking hilarious. Your boyfriend is a dick.

He's promoting Facism and Dictatorships. It used to be called something else historically.

You need to educate yourself on what facisism is. You are demeaning and minimising the suffering of those that have lived and suffered under a facist regime. Do you genuinely thing that Farage government will be shooting 200 women and children on the banks of the Danube Thames, or disappearing political opponents or executing military leaders. Get a fecking grip.

Now councils are being told to buy up empty homes for the immigrants instead of hotels.

The vast majority of empty homes at the moment are unsold new builds - look them up online. People are desperately trying to save for the deposit, now they will be 'gazumped' but not by a higher bidder, by the local council on whose lists are hundreds of homeless people who have been homeless a lot longer than the 'William the Firsts' invaders.

ClareBlue · 27/07/2025 02:01

Referencing back to Rivers of Blood Speach. One of the two speeches most misquoted and taken out of context to support political aims, along with Mrs Thatcher's 'no society' speach. I have no agenda, but both,in their entirety are easily available to find. Neither is as often portrayed. Worth actually reading them sometime.

ClareBlue · 27/07/2025 02:12

Stop calling Reform and those you don't agree with facist or a dacist party. Pause a minute. Go to Budapest. Stand at the side of the Danube where the shoes of children and parents shot in the head and thrown into the river by facists are replicated in Brass, down to the size of each child's shoe. Come back to the UK with an understanding of what facisim is and stop labeling people that have different political views to you as comparable to regimes that kill children and throw them into a river.
Then carry on the debate.

Kidznurse · 27/07/2025 07:59

For goodness sake it’d be seperate beds if I thought he was a Labour voter.

Reform is a racist party.

I think the people shot and thrown in the Danube might have something to say about the importance of calling out and acting against racists and fascists, rather than tiptoeing around them.

TheFA ban political slogans on flags. It’s been discussed a lot on the thread.

Not the figures I’ve seen. But still, even if you are correct, could that be because it’s harder to get here so people don’t bother if they know they have no chance? We only grant it to people entitled.

Maybe so - but a) I doubt Farage has read it, b) few of his supporters will have read it and c) he meant it to be taken as it sounds, not in context (it’s still distinctly ‘off’ in context).

Thank you for your advice. I am very well aware of what Facism is, having had family members who were victims of it and in more modern times having lived half my life under a neo facist leader in a different country. I am not suggesting Fuckface Farage will be doing something so awful, but his ideology echoes that of facism and it's bloody dangerous and scary. Anyone who votes for him really needs to question and educate themselves.

Your husband and his friends are obviously simple minded.
Only a person full of hate and ignorance would support farage.
