DP’s new football flag has given me the ick!

DP is a big football fan and they have been promoted so he is excited for the new season to start. He goes with a group of 5/6 mates and they always have a flag to take to away matches. To mark their promotion, they’ve ordered a new one.

DP took delivery of it yesterday. It is an England flag with the club badge on it. They have added the text ‘On the charge with Farage’ 😩

Instant ick…am I overreacting!?

Why are so many people anti-English and seemingly despise the Flag of St. George?

Maybe a different reaction if it was a Palestine flag?

It's not anti English to find the Farage slogan distasteful and to point out that he might be denied entry to the ground carrying a flag like that.

Just sayin’, my initial thoughts

Which are not based on anything people have actually said.

Football fans are often reprehensible in many ways, amazing they find ways to make it even worse. This guy is supporting a man whose party wants to remove rights which protect women.

Appalling.

Nigel is very in at the mo. Your DP and his gang will be the envy of many with their tribute flag.

Edited

He is in with cunts.

No one has focused their comments on a derogatory stance on the national flag.

I raised an alternative situation and wondered about the likely response, AIBU for doing so?

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2025 20:18

There is a game tomorrow that is the perfect opportunity to wave the England flag.

I would suggest to leave off the text that the OP's husband thinks is upsetting all the right people.

You said people were seemingly anti English and despised the flag of St George. That didn't happen.

whitewineandsun · 26/07/2025 20:20

HollyUpNorth · 25/07/2025 14:01

He says it’s light hearted and will ‘upset all the right people’ so between them they found the idea hilarious.

Hopefully it doesn’t get in!

This is making it worse. He sounds like a right twat.

Perhaps start a thread about the English flag as that is not what this thread is about.

EzLife · 26/07/2025 20:24

@ilovesooty actually misquoting me…be precise if you’re going to quote as it makes a difference…

ilovesooty · 26/07/2025 20:37

I don't think I've misquoted you.

It's probably better to keep politics out of football

You will have to grin and bear it for now, because the team is being sponsored, and young people need all the sponsorship they can get.

Are your objections more than your love for your child and seeing him happy?

There is sponsorship everywhere. You don't have to vote for them. Nor does the team manager.

Just make sure that at election times in your particular locality or in a general, that the Reform party registers the amount they spend on publicity, because there are limits at election times.

Kettledodger · 26/07/2025 21:03

You can have all the ick you want but you can not deny that Farage and Reform have a huge following dismiss it at your peril

Nobody objected to the flag, just the political slogan.
If people are wary of the England flag, though, it’s down to violent racist thugs waving it and giving it bad associations which is sad, in my (Welsh) opinion.

When it’s nothing to do with the thread, yes. Start one about your unrelated£ idea if you want to discuss it.

What on earth has this to do with sponsorship or children? The slogan isn’t a sponsorship slogan. The OP’s DP is presumably an adult.

What’s that got to do with a (banned) political slogan on a flag?

My thoughts were also on a children's event, so I apologise for that, though it applies the same way.

If not a sponsorship slogan, what is it?

I hate what it’s associated with now. The far right have hi-jacked it.
