DP’s new football flag has given me the ick!

DP is a big football fan and they have been promoted so he is excited for the new season to start. He goes with a group of 5/6 mates and they always have a flag to take to away matches. To mark their promotion, they’ve ordered a new one.

DP took delivery of it yesterday. It is an England flag with the club badge on it. They have added the text ‘On the charge with Farage’ 😩

Instant ick…am I overreacting!?

The are receiving racial abuse when playing for England?

Yes, they are. I doubt if the OP's husband and his Farage fan mates care much about that though.

We don’t have uncontrolled illegal immigration, so the rest is a bit moot.
If you mean t(we’re are more asylum seekers than you would like, say so, but it’s a pretty callous and racist thing to say. Plus we take fewer per capita than, for eg, France.
Edit: political elites? Are you including for eg Rayner and Streeting? You may want to look at their backgrounds if so.

LMFAO, and there is it… the racist word, yep, definitely racist me, I must be the Kemi and Zia type far right racist thug.

Ooooooh round us all up.

KnittyNell · 25/07/2025 19:49

crumblingschools · 25/07/2025 14:00

Has he explained why he wanted a flag with that wording?

Why should he?

Obeseandashamed · 25/07/2025 19:50

🤮 🤮 🤮 Aside from potentially inciting violence with the wording “on the charge’ - this would give me the ick too!

If your point wasn’t that you don’t like desperate people claiming asylum perfectly legally, then yes, that’s a bit racist. I didn’t say anything about thuggery.

Laura95167 · 25/07/2025 19:51

Will they be goosestepping this flag to the ground?

cardibach · 25/07/2025 19:51

KnittyNell · 25/07/2025 19:49

Why should he?

Because it’s a bit odd to have a political slogan (banned by the FA) on a flag for supporting his team. It’s a strange decision. An explanation might clarify.

Where did I state that in my original post.

I love how that is all you have, fabrications and labels because you have nothing sensible to contribute to the debate.

I asked whether you meant asylum seekers when you talked about illegal immigration. That’s all. What did you mean?

NetballHoop · 25/07/2025 13:32

Supporting either Farage or Corbyn would be grounds for divorce in my household.

Don’t want to derail the thread, and totally a genuine question. But why Corbyn? I absolutely detest Farage but isn’t Corbyn left wing so quite the opposite? Just wondering why you’d put them together?

Oh, and I totally agree with supporting Farage being grounds for divorce!

As has been pointed out I suspect he'll have it removed if he tries to enter the stadium with it.

BurntBroccoli · 25/07/2025 19:54

Definitely given me the ick just reading that… 🤢🤢🤢

Have you see the football flags with ‘No surrender’ on them?

Are you aware of the political implications of that as the historical ones too?

Are you aware many football clubs have closely been linked with political parties and movements since their inception?

Just because it’s not a band of politics we like, we cannot forget what’s gone on since the beginning.

Some players and clubs don’t even observe Remembrance Day but get a free pass in doing so.

Brendahollowayreconsider · 25/07/2025 19:55

Plastic thugs wearing stone island no doubt
80s /90s were dangerous on the terraces National Front,BNP ,C18 all active.
Do not want a return to the bad old days.

BurntBroccoli · 25/07/2025 19:57

CitizenZ · 25/07/2025 14:17

Get him to change the slogan to: "At the match, full of passion, proper proud, to be a gammon!"

Then LTB.

Of course I am.
Are you aware the FA has banned them? That’s why it’s an odd decision. I disagree with the politics, but it’s the going against the rules that requires explanation.

DestituteDesperate · 25/07/2025 20:00

No surrender is neither a criminal offence nor banned by the FA but the FA made it clear they do not like to see it.

they harder.

He says it’s light hearted and will ‘upset all the right people’ so between them they found the idea hilarious.

Hopefully it doesn’t get in!

Who does he mean by that? Upset all the right people?
Does he go on about woke alot? Is he the sort that says you can't make a joke anymore without upsetting people? Has he started making comments about people getting jobs because of DEI?

They’ve banned political slogans. Someone posted the relevant wording upthread. I don’t need to ‘they’ harder. I’m telling you what I think. You can disagree. But this is why I and others think an explanation would be helpful.

BurntBroccoli · 25/07/2025 20:05

And the Union flag definitely hasn’t been hi-jacked by Reform/UKIP/BNP as some were saying.
This proves it most definitely has along with the Union Jack dress worn by the school girl the other week.

You obviously don’t get much attention in life hence you’re clamouring for some on here.

last year we played Ireland and the FA politely asked fans not to sing the chant.

The chant is NOT banned.

The FA has many toothless policies on discrimination and sectarianism but has not outlawed the chant.

Eh? What’s that crap about attention related to?
Also I wasn’t referring to chants, but political slogans on flags.
Odd response all round.

OK keep moving the goal posts whilst enjoying your evening, trying to garner some much needed attention.

Could be worse, he could vote Labour.
