DP’s new football flag has given me the ick!

HollyUpNorth · 25/07/2025 12:55

DP is a big football fan and they have been promoted so he is excited for the new season to start. He goes with a group of 5/6 mates and they always have a flag to take to away matches. To mark their promotion, they’ve ordered a new one.

DP took delivery of it yesterday. It is an England flag with the club badge on it. They have added the text ‘On the charge with Farage’ 😩

Instant ick…am I overreacting!?

Not enough middle class liberals for MN.

OK keep moving the goal posts whilst enjoying your evening, trying to garner some much needed attention.

You moved the goal posts referencing sectarian chants when the whole thread is about a party political slogan on a flag. I know who is searching for attention here, and it’s not me. As such I won’t be responding to you again.

I’m not a liberal. It’s not a really a word used in the U.K. unless referencing the Liberal Democrats. I don’t think they have a majority on MN.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/07/2025 21:06

Ew. I would have the total ick and he would no longer be my DP.

What does fag-ash have to do with his football team anyway?

ForeveraBluebird · 25/07/2025 21:28

The only people not understanding football culture are your husband and his friends. Why would you pay good money to have a flag made to take to Turf Moor , that will offend others and be taken down by stewards.
Not to mention the trouble they’d get at away games.

I love the idea that public school educated ex banker career politician Farage is somehow not a member of the elite….

I am pretty disillusioned with politics. I am not turning to Reform because I don't support racism.

But many people are. And in the same way many will turn to Corbyn. Because they feel unlistened to by the main political parties and Farage et al are playing to their fears.

Yes, I know people are turning to Reform. They are supporting racism, or are racist themselves, as pp says. Being fed up with mainstream parties is no excuse. That's my point.

I'd hazard a guess though that a lot of Reform supporters don't usually vote or have an interest in politics.

Don't forget Tice. A real man of the people.

Not only this, it would be a LTB for me. Seriously.

Me too.

My brother voted for the racist cunt and I considered going NC with him. The only thing that stopped me is that I'm his only living relative, he has MH issues and is quite vulnerable.

derxa · 26/07/2025 09:42

Such flags do exist but….

Right going down the rabbit hole, Farage aside, I can see why people have become disenfranchised with the current political elite.

It is not racist to say there is an issue with crime, uncontrolled illegal immigration and the erosion of civil liberties.

When the histrionics have subsided and you look at the cold hard facts, I can see why a party that has Habib, Zia, Nigel etc is attracting support not just from ‘far right’ people but ordinary British people. For example, Zia doesn’t exactly fit the bill for a far right thug.

When none of the political elite have the guts to address the elephant in the room, I’m not surprised fringe groups are gaining popularity.

instead of blindly labelling everyone as racist, the facts at hand should be discussed.

I find it’s people like me that are more willing to touch these controversial topics because we are not white.

sad day when someone has to bite their tongue in fear of being labelled racist.

When that little depraved monster, Axel killed little girls at a dance club, the PM spoke on Islamophobia and protecting mosques whilst people like Lucy Connolly faced greater sentences for clumsy reactive tweets than paedophiles raping underaged girls up north.

ill now depart because there’s a certain faction on this thread exhibiting the same sneering elitist attitudes that the political elite have for the average person.

This 💯👍

At least you know what he is now.

FluffykinsTheFerociousFeralFelineFury · 26/07/2025 10:26

Why does a flag you take to football need to have any non-football-related slogan on it?

DuncinToffee · 26/07/2025 12:10

The OP has disapperead then?

Job done, I guess

ForeveraBluebird · 26/07/2025 14:09

Here because we are single , written on a flag of visiting supporters on Valentine’s Day. Non football but made me laugh and more imaginative than the Ops husband for sure.

Vynalbob · 26/07/2025 18:18

If it's televised and the camera pans round and sees your OH holding that flag many people imo will associate the two and think if you're holding that you're also holding other views that go with it.
Don't know what to suggest, nothing if you're a Fromage groupee, otherwise maybe he insists he wears a Donald Trump mask to distance himself.

AgainstTheOddsNo2 · 26/07/2025 19:06

I've been trying to get tickets for a match at Burnley. Let me know if they are ok with that flag and I will stop bothering!

And no photo of the flag 🚩

EzLife · 26/07/2025 19:59

Why are so many people anti-English and seemingly despise the Flag of St. George?

Maybe a different reaction if it was a Palestine flag?

ForeveraBluebird · 26/07/2025 20:04

@EzLife , what a strange thing to say. I don’t think there’s been anti English flag comments here. Just the writing it’s displaying.
