To find every bra uncomfortable?

I hate bras. I have one I like which I wear all the time, it’s baggy and unattractive. Basically a saggy crop top.

I ordered the same make, same size and now have some new bras. They appear to fit perfectly, not too tight on the band, cups fit well. At first I thought - ‘brilliant, these fit perfectly!’

Yet within a few hours I’m desperate to take it off! They give me weird headaches, almost like a pressure in my sinuses.

Don’t even get me started on the time I had a professional fitting and bought very expensive bras - they were agony!

Is it me or are all bras out to make my life miserable?!

I've tried loads and they all feel like tight bands of prickles on me. I've got various autoimmune conditions and costachronditis. I found the best were cheapies off Temu or AliExpress. More like bralettes, very comfy and I hand wash them so they don't fall apart .

NancyJoan · 23/07/2025 17:21

@HonkyDonkey Did you buy your regular size? They look great.

needtostopnamechanging · 23/07/2025 17:26

There is a “if it fits “ fallacy - women are not even shaped - left bigger than right , in between a 30 and a 32 / and their size may vary through the day ( as you eat , as your hormones change, so the idea that a bra can fit perfectly / it will happen for some but not all

autienotnaughty · 23/07/2025 17:29

I’ve bought non wired by honey love they are much comfier than anything I’ve owned before and look ok I think.

MarvellousMonsters · 23/07/2025 09:22

You’re almost certainly wearing the wrong size/style. Go to www.booborbust.com and measure yourself properly, and read the advice on which style suits your body shape.

As I’ve said before, Boob or Bust doesn’t work for everyone, particularly the small breasted and those that don’t want the band to feel tight.

I’ve often thought - ever since my 20s - that there’s a strange kinky or misogynistic drive amongst bra fitters to prioritise lift (God forbid that any woman develop droopy boobs - the horror!) and a really tight band over comfort.

I think the key thing is to buy for your shape- not just your size.

stayathomer · 23/07/2025 17:44

I find if I don’t wear a bra I feel horrible, they feel really wrong, and yet my greatest pleasure in life is taking the bra off in the evening! It’s so weird!

I like the sound of nipple petals. I don’t have massive boobs. Don’t need much support but don’t want to show nipples through clothing!

That’s exactly why I wear them - as I’ve aged, my nipples have became <cough> pointier so the nipple petals are a must. Give them a go!

doodleschnoodle · 23/07/2025 18:22

Molke are the best ones I’ve found. Not attractive, there’s an art to putting them on, but they are by far the comfiest and most supportive bra I’ve ever worn. I’ll never wear wired ones again.

Yes, I find them true to size.

You’ve never been to Rigby & Pellar.

I have and it was awful. They put me in a bra so tight, I couldn't even take a proper breath. When I took it off (with relief), there were red marks on my ribcage.

Sloggi is my favourite shapeless baggy bra that I have on the go.

It’s the brand I’ve just ordered 4 new ones off that are now making me feel all uncomfortable. I think maybe they just need a few wears and washes from what people have said on here.

I've always hated bras. Small breasts, wide back, wires dig in and I hate a tight band around my chest.
I tried getting measured and they wanted me to try a bra several sizes smaller with bigger cups. The band cut me in half and the cups were empty.
Then I had a lumpectomy for breast cancer which made it all worse.
Sloggi zero feel are the only bras that are comfortable and give enough support (which is still necessary even with tiny breasts). So I have a drawer full of the ugly things. I also have drawers full of other bras I've bought.

Occasionally if I wear a summer dress I need something that looks a bit nicer. I found a set at Primark for £7. The pants are dreadful and went in the bin but the bra is pretty good. A slightly unusual shape but I bought large and it fits well.(I'm a size 12/14 and get a medium in sloggi.

zaxxon · 23/07/2025 21:47

My theory is that it's only the larger-cup-sized women who benefit from the whole "get measured and wear the correct size!!" mantra that's often trotted out.

Rigby & Peller measured me as a 30E (!)

Boob or bust said I was 32C

My everyday, tolerable size is 34B

But the only bra I own that's genuinely comfortable is something like a 38A (it's all stretched out around the band)

N0sferatu · 23/07/2025 21:51

I've always struggled with underwired bras, tried so many and they've nearly all been unbearable after a few hours. I've been wearing non wired for years now but need more support really. I've recently discovered Elomi Morgan bras and they are just perfect. I can wear them all day and barely feel them, great support. I think it's just a case of finding the right one for you.

Sortin · 23/07/2025 21:52

Spot on @zaxxon .
Perfect for me is 38A, though hard to find. When I was measured they said 30C or 32C which was ridiculous- empty cups and so tight I couldn't breathe.

MuckFusk · 23/07/2025 21:58

The band is too tight on most bras if you have sensitive skin or sensory issues. So I go up a band size for everything but sports bras, which I don't have to wear for very long during a workout so I can stand it.
Even with the looser band I hate wearing bras for any length of time. After a few hours I want them off. I've tried every type imaginable and none of them are comfortable. YANBU.

CyberStrider · 23/07/2025 21:59

I'm a 30f, got out of the habit of wearing bras during lockdown and now I just can't tolerate them. It's nothing to do with the correct size, as I've not changed size.

cornbunting · 23/07/2025 22:09

zaxxon · 23/07/2025 21:33

This is exactly the experience I had at Bravissimo.

The last time I tried the boob or bust method I measured at 33". "If you're between sizes [ie an odd number]," said the handy guide, "then size down." In what universe does wearing clothes that are measurably smaller than my body make sense? I dutifully tried a band size of 32", and it HURT. Of course it did! It was smaller than I was!

And yet there is so much shaming of women for wearing the wrong size bra. I'd rather wear "the wrong size" and get through the day without my clothing giving me bruises.

Fridgetapas · 24/07/2025 07:16

Ditch the wired structured bras. You can get supportive soft non wired bras and bralettes from most supermarkets now and it’s all I wear! Sooo comfy!

Whitehorses67 · 24/07/2025 07:23

The whole measuring thing is buggered if, like me, you have enormous droopy boobs.
How I supposed to hold them up to measure for cup size?
I hate my boobs and would happily have the bloody things removed if I could afford it.

DorothyWainwright · 24/07/2025 07:30

Try primark sports bras. They're all stretchy and usually halter neck. I find them much comfier than a bra.
I've not worn a bra since the pandemic.

A few of the methods involve leaning forward and measuring them as they hang down. They usually want 3 measurements: band size, upright round your boobs and then bending over round your boobs.

This is what I used, which was spot on. https://molke.co.uk/pages/size-advice?srsltid=AfmBOopVMG_3dMCsLXN3T43o9oXAnJzxgbsN69hGLG_7qZmlo2l46vzd

I am a 30FF, which is not a size I ever would have picked myself but it fits perfectly!

Oh, I haven’t had a wired bra for about a decade! Couldn’t stand the feel of a wire on my breastbone.

i have very soft bras. Still dislike them.

So here’s today’s bra. I’ll want it off by midday. But objectively, not tight on the band or cups, no wires, very soft material.

Any advice on fit welcome.

Can anyone link to the silicone nipple covers? There are loads of options; I have no idea which ones are any good! Thanks 🙏

I bought some 'Neats' off Amazon. Really pleased with them.

I have. Their bras were very pretty but still uncomfortable.

I've had fittings at various different places, used Boob or Bust, spent ridiculous amounts on different styles. I've come to the conclusion I just hate bras.

So now I don't wear them.

Not sure why I ever bothered in the first place.
