To find every bra uncomfortable?

I hate bras. I have one I like which I wear all the time, it’s baggy and unattractive. Basically a saggy crop top.

I ordered the same make, same size and now have some new bras. They appear to fit perfectly, not too tight on the band, cups fit well. At first I thought - ‘brilliant, these fit perfectly!’

Yet within a few hours I’m desperate to take it off! They give me weird headaches, almost like a pressure in my sinuses.

Don’t even get me started on the time I had a professional fitting and bought very expensive bras - they were agony!

Is it me or are all bras out to make my life miserable?!

Hate bras too.
often go without and wear those silicon nipple petals but I’m a small B cup so I get away with it.

I buy the soft multipack bra tops from Tesco otherwise. It’s all I can cope with!

I like the sound of nipple petals. I don’t have massive boobs. Don’t need much support but don’t want to show nipples through clothing!

I loathe wearing a bra and tend to go bra free at home. I wouldn’t wear one out and about either but I think men notice, unfortunately, and I don’t want attention from them. I was once told by a psychotherapist that bras are a contributing factor to anxiety in women, as they constantly have a tight and constricting band around their ribs - I think they are onto something.

I just suffer when I have to wear a bra - definitely the right size, I understand how it should fit. If i can get away with it i will wear light support sports bras, which are better, but still annoying. I’ve recently got some stick on bras to try - haven’t given them a go yet, but there are no straps so hopefully will feel better.

I've just measured how boom say to, came up as 30f. Well,I have 34dd and e, the cups are a good fit but the back straps are too small and I have an extension and done up on the last hooks. I had a measurement in M and S with my bra and naked, she made me 36DD, cups were under my arms. Gave it to DD.

LoveSandbanks · 23/07/2025 12:15

I have an unusual anatomy and had given up in bras, living life in sloggi bralettes. Fortunately I’m no large busted so don’t need much support. I e recently started making my own bras and it’s an utter game changer. There are a huge number of different wire types for different shaped breasts, probably only about 3 or 4 of which are used in high street bras. When you know this it’s easy to understand why most of us struggle to find a bra that is comfortable.

Sadly a made to measure bra will cost upwards of £200 for most people.

Different wire shapes, who knew?! That makes a lot of sense. Every "normal" wired bra I've ever worn has had wires that come right up into my armpit and dig in and/or dig into my breastbone and/or dig in to my ribs at the bottom of the cup. The Bravissimo-fitted bra as mentioned earlier managed all three at once! Balcony bras have been the only wires that don't do that to me, but ever since pregnancy they've been unbearable too. Given that my youngest is nine and I still feel this way, I have given up on the idea of ever buying another wired bra 😂

Yep, I got sucked in by the advertising. Should have known better, but I was desperate.

The sizing didn't work at all for me, it was big enough in the cup but that meant the band was so big my boobs fell out of the bottom.

I would say though that if you are maybe an E cup or less I think they would be really comfortable. The fabric was lovely and it gave a really nice shape.

Oh thank you so much - that’s really helpful feedback.

Myblueclematis · 23/07/2025 12:40

I had a professional bra fitting a couple of months ago and it has literally changed my shape. I've even had friends say what a difference it makes to me. No longer do I have a shelf under my chin, I have proper perky looking boobs because I am wearing the correct size bra at long last.

I've spent over £300 on three bras since then, I buy Empreinte, expensive but boy, have they been worth it.

I was wearing 38GG before and they always looked massive, now I am 34G and even now I can't get over how comfortable the new bras are but also the wonderful difference to how I look.

Omg, there’s plunge wires, balcony wires, wide fit wires, day wires, long wires, France, rocker etc etc.

Tiggerwoods · 23/07/2025 12:57

I hate wearing bras too but with a very small bust can get away with it - I second silicon nipple covers or, for a budget alternative to M&S Flexi fit bralettes, Peacocks do a very cheap bonded version which is incredibly comfortable for £10. I have bought lots! I also buy a much bigger size than I need because I can't bear anything tight.

Thats because m and s are shite

Ilovelowry · 23/07/2025 13:08

I've ditched bras for bralettes and double layer crop tops. Stripe and stare bralets and 3 packs of crop tops from asda.

I'm only 32D so tiny, and whilst a bra sits my breasts a bit higher, I'd rather be comfy and them droop.

I'm on HRT though with mirena so no associated PMT breast soreness anymore which helps.

M&S flexifit bralettes. Amazing and all I wear now. I used to do all that tight band, underwires, big cups thing - pah, couldn’t give a monkeys about that now. Bralettes all the way.

I tried these but the padding kept coming out in the wash so I had to sew them in which ruined the way they looked.

But comfy once on!

Observed · 23/07/2025 15:14

Can anyone link to the silicone nipple covers? There are loads of options; I have no idea which ones are any good! Thanks 🙏

KimberleyClark · 23/07/2025 15:31

M &S do a nice soft bra, it has normal bra straps but no back fastening, give my E/F boobs plenty of support and very comfy. They are sold in packs of three.

Where do you source different types of wires @LoveSandbanks ? I might like to try making myself a bra. I know that I need narrower wires than available in UK bras, as the best fitting bra I ever had was Polish, designed for a very slender torso, which I have.

There’s no getting around the fact though, that bras need to be very snug in the band so that a lot of the support comes from below, rather than your breasts’ full weight hanging from your shoulders. With an underwired bra, this means that you’re wearing scaffolding on your body. I could tolerate this for daily wear when I was younger but can’t stand the discomfort now and wear soft cup sports bras with a wide band, which spreads the weight and is more comfortable.

Etsy is your friend for wires I think. Or Porcelynne. Have a look at some blogs to get an idea of what fitting issues you might have. I think Orange Lingerie is very good.

Dont, for a minute, think you’ll be able to source everything in the uk 🙄

ZanyMauveCat · 23/07/2025 17:04

I can't stand them, whether it's cos of skin sensitivity or a sensory issue I am not 100% sure, but hate the bloody things! Bralettes and soft crop tops all the way.

Have heard the 'if it fits properly, it will be comfy' so many times and I am yet to be convinced!

Hai2012 · 23/07/2025 17:05

I dont bother wearing a bra. If i really have to ill wear a crop top type bra.

HonkyDonkey · 23/07/2025 17:09

I made a similar post recently op.

Someone on here recommended the m&s flexifit (wireless)

At first I was hesitant to try it as I have a 36G chest and always find wireless bras don't offer enough support.

OMG no word of a lie, the first day I wore it I would randomly panic thinking that I had forgotten to put a bra on!!! It was so comfortable that I would forget I was wearing one.

The very next day I binned all my other bras, went to m&s and bought multiple in every colour, and I've never looked back.

It's so supportive and I genuinely forget I'm wearing one.

I promise you will not regret trying this. No word of a lie, it's literally changed my life as I've always HATED wearing a bra and used to find them so uncomfortable.

Good luck.

I can't stand wearing bras, doesn't matter if fitted or not. I haven't worn a bra in years, a small b cup. Never had an issue with nipples showing.

zaxxon · 23/07/2025 17:14

YANBU, they're horrible things, the 21st-century equivalent of the corset and the garter strap. I look forward to the Star Trek future where they'll be obsolete and scorned by women and men alike. (and yes, I am wearing the right size, and yes, I have been measured professionally, it didn't help)

You need to get the flexifit wireless bras and not the bralette.

I have both and the bralette annoys me for the same reasons however, the wireless flexifit bras are already stitched in. Also more comfortable and supportive than the bralette. Hth.
