Neighbour hoovers everyday

paintthetown · 22/07/2025 18:30

We live in a semi detached bungalow and our next door neighbour (single woman) hoovers every single day without fail. It only lasts 10-15 minutes and is usually in the evening around 6-7pm. AIBU to find it annoying? I can’t understand why someone would need to hoover that much unless they have kids or pets (she has neither)

Of course, I'm not keeping an eye on her. The walls are so thin and we’re usually sat in the living room while she does it. I don't know anyone who hoovers that often. We maintain a tidy home, but there's no need to vacuum daily surely. If people have carpets, they must be completely worn out.

Do you have kids? Have you ever given them a packet of crisps?

Okiedokie123 · 22/07/2025 20:48

For sure there is no need to hoover that often if there are no pets or small children. But if it makes her happy its no biggie. Maybe go for a walk at that time if its really that much of a bother. Or do something else, somewhere else.
Come visit me if you like - you can "enjoy" my neighbours parties that go on until dawn o'clock.

Dontthink · 22/07/2025 20:48

I hoover 2-3 times a day. I have a toddler and carpet.

LadyRoughDiamond · 22/07/2025 20:50

OP, you’re the problem here, not your neighbour.

Geesgirl · 22/07/2025 20:50

Behave

BakewellGin1 · 22/07/2025 20:59

I hoover downstairs daily at least once.
Bedrooms every other day
Stairs weekly
Kitchen and bathroom floors daily
I just like it clean. Takes literally 10 minutes

I live in a terraced old house. I dont hear next door so dont even know of they hear us. I also put wash on at 5am and hang it out by 6am. Glad your not my neighbour though

There is as much need as people want

defrazzled · 22/07/2025 21:28

You'd hate it here, DH hoovers constantly. He'll hoover you if you stop still long enough 😂

Hotflushesandchilblains · 22/07/2025 21:29

Yes, you are very unreasonable.

Digdongdoo · 22/07/2025 21:31

I hoover twice a day 🙀
YABU to moan about brief daytime cleaning. Get a life.

OnTheBoardwalk · 22/07/2025 21:37

I thought you were going to say an hour everyday at 6am

i'm a hairy fecker and single so I obviously have cats as mandated on these threads. I don’t have carpets but like a good sweep every evening

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 22/07/2025 21:46

You'll just have to suck it up I'm afraid.

quicklywick · 22/07/2025 19:52

You would hate me i had the hoover out at 3 this morning getting a huge spider

That's such a cruel thing to do.

DottieMoon · 22/07/2025 22:02

YABU

She's not doing it at an unreasonable time and not for long. What is your problem.

I hoover downstairs everyday!

gradygals · 22/07/2025 22:03

I have a friend who vacuums 3 times a day. I vacuum 3 times a week (sometimes).

gradygals · 22/07/2025 22:06

I used to vacuum when the children were in bed as we had a very small living area. Both became great sleepers through any noise.

MellowPinkDeer · 22/07/2025 22:10

You’d hate me then. I hoover twice a day everyday. Usually at 8am and about 7pm. Good job I’m detached!

Nothankyov · 22/07/2025 22:12

@paintthetown i have to say I had to re read your post. I thought you said she hoovered at 6/7am. Which I understand could be annoying as not everyone are early risers. But in this case. You are being very unreasonable.

WhereYouLeftIt · 22/07/2025 22:19

Once upon a time, when I was new to running my own house and therefore incredibly houseproud, I hoovered every day before going to work, so that the house - MY house - was pristine for my return.

Now I'm older and far more slatternly, it's lucky if I hoover once a quarter week.

YABU.

Chick981 · 22/07/2025 22:41

Sometimes we hoover twice a day OP, don’t move in next to us

Deathinparadisefan · 22/07/2025 22:53

I think the mention of the single status of the neighbour implies that she lives alone and therefore makes OP question why the daily hoovering.

If you had a nice lightweight vacuum cleaner, it’s not a chore to use it every day. You also need to keep on top of dust mites.

Lifesaidyes · 22/07/2025 22:57

You would hate being our neighbour, admittedly we have kids and a lot of animals but I hoover twice a day and send the robotic around 3 more times. Kind of necessary here if we don't want to be trailing hair, seed and feathers around the place.

If I didn't have pets I would still hoover once a day, I thought everyone did - what about the dust and mud you bring in on your clothes / the crumbs from food / teeny tiny particles from opening packages or sharpening pencils? Everyone makes floor dust, wouldn't it feel manky underfoot if you didn't lift it daily?

The spider was trespassing it was me or him
