Neighbour hoovers everyday

paintthetown · 22/07/2025 18:30

We live in a semi detached bungalow and our next door neighbour (single woman) hoovers every single day without fail. It only lasts 10-15 minutes and is usually in the evening around 6-7pm. AIBU to find it annoying? I can’t understand why someone would need to hoover that much unless they have kids or pets (she has neither)

Fair do's. 🙂

😘

How unbelievably judgemental you are. Mind your own business!
And yes you do seriously need to get a life.

I wish I was the sort of person who could get it together enough to hoover every day....instead I've bought a Eufy and it hoovers every day instead. No more cat hair and crumbs all over the floor, it's bliss.

I wish I was tidy enough to have enough clear floor to have an Eufy 😂

I didn't know people didn't hoover everyday, strange! Yabu.

I don't but I live on my own and I'm usually out for half the day. I wouldn't have an issue with someone who does.

Hai2012 · 22/07/2025 20:09

I hoover everyday, sometimes twice

I really wish I knew what an Eufy was. 😂 (I assume some kind of vacuum cleaner?!)

I just have my old Henry.

RetroViral · 22/07/2025 20:10

I knew a single woman with a hoover once

Me too!

I hoover probably twice a week and the cleaner hoovers once a week. I'm feeling a bit unclean now! (I do sweep the kitchen floor daily though- because it's super small and it takes me 11 seconds. I was actually sad enough to time myself once. )

Why aren't you hoovering daily?

Perhaps she has a life?

Dh has taken a bit of a shine to the Eufy and goes around picking things up ready for it.

Ridiculous.

There's no point in posting lies, you just make yourself look silly.

Where would a single woman get a vacuum cleaner from?

huuskymam · 22/07/2025 20:15

You'd hate my house to be your neighbours. My dh hoovers 3/4 times a week for at least 30/40 minutes. He likes to get into the corners, top and bottom each time.

Ilikemymenlikeilikemycoffee · 22/07/2025 20:16

I wish I could be bothered! You clearly lead a sad life to notice though!

TheodoraCrumpet · 22/07/2025 20:17

I think less fussy people probably do need to vacuum more often. I don't fuss about crumbs being dropped, or people walking mud into the house, but that shit really needs to be vacuumed up or the place looks like a shithole in no time. My late MIL, the most houseproud person I have ever known, never allowed mess to be made in the first place, and consequently there was very little of it to be cleaned up.

Blueyshep · 22/07/2025 20:23

We hoover every day, sometimes twice! Couldn't give a rats arse what the neighbours think. So of us are just cleaner than others. I'm sure she's not judging you for being dirty

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 22/07/2025 20:24

@paintthetown just wish I had the energy to vacuum every day!!

My friend admitted to me that she didn’t hoover once throughout the whole first lockdown 😆

It's a self propelled/robot vacuum cleaner you can set to do the vacuuming (and damp dusting/mopping if you spend a bit more) automatically. If I had a larger area to do/a properly fitted kitchen, I'd get one.

MyDeftDuck · 22/07/2025 20:26

Maybe she has allergies and needs to keep her home dust and irritant free? Whatever her motives, I don’t see that it is anyone else’s business as long as she doing it at a reasonable hour of the day

RabbitFurCoat · 22/07/2025 20:31

My mam hoovered every day. She liked to batter my bedroom door with it every morning to wake me up. I'm sending her this thread. 😆

Be glad you don't live near me. At least 20 minutes daily and up to 3 times properly and a few quick bursts just to do the sofa (sometimes I do a full hoover before work, husband does when he gets in and we have to do again before bed at about 9) the culprit in our case a a lovely yellow lab who just never stops moulting. When we went on holiday and a friend stayed to look after him and did no hoovering (completely fair who wants to hoover someone else's house) it looked like a snowstorm had happened inside and she got told off at work for being to covered in dog hair 😆 fortunately our neighbors are my parents and they also have a lab so understand. Maybe she just hates dust/has asthma? My husband is asthmatic so that's also why we dust a lot ad it helps him.

Seasonofthesticks · 22/07/2025 20:38

My step dad used to hoover and mop every morning without fail at 8am 🤣

Growlybear83 · 22/07/2025 20:38

What a bizarre thread! There is just me, my husband, and a cat now and we don’t make much mess, but I still need to vaccuum the downstairs rooms almost every day. Some of the bedrooms aren’t used regularly now and so I only vaccuum them once a week, but anywhere that is used regularly looks so much better for a quick clean. Most people I know vaccuum daily

FOJN · 22/07/2025 20:44

paintthetown · 22/07/2025 18:54

Of course, I'm not keeping an eye on her. The walls are so thin and we’re usually sat in the living room while she does it. I don't know anyone who hoovers that often. We maintain a tidy home, but there's no need to vacuum daily surely. If people have carpets, they must be completely worn out.

How often you hoover is your business and is not the standard by which everyone else must abide. Your neighbour has a different idea of how often she needs to hoover.

I don't know anyone who would be bothered by this. Surely there is no need to get annoyed by a neighbour hoovering for 15 minutes at a reasonable time of day.

Thefaceofboe · 22/07/2025 20:45

how is this even a question, of course YANU
