Neighbour hoovers everyday

paintthetown · 22/07/2025 18:30

We live in a semi detached bungalow and our next door neighbour (single woman) hoovers every single day without fail. It only lasts 10-15 minutes and is usually in the evening around 6-7pm. AIBU to find it annoying? I can’t understand why someone would need to hoover that much unless they have kids or pets (she has neither)

I hoover pretty much every day. No kids, one short-haired cat

I don't do my living room daily but I whizz my cordless Shark around the kitchen and dining area most evenings when i have finished cooking.

Hoovering is my favourite chore haha

lazyarse123 · 22/07/2025 19:22

I'm with you op, there's more to life than vaccing every day especially for a single person.
We had a friend with a 3 bed semi and she vacced all through every day even though there was only 2 of them, she had a serious problem, after she died her dh admitted he never felt comfortable in his own home.

JLou08 · 22/07/2025 19:22

YABU. Nothing wrong at all with hoovering it at that time. Some people do it every day as it's part of their daily routine, as this is around the same time every day it probably is because it is part of her routine. Routine is really important to some people for their mental health.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 22/07/2025 19:23

I hoover multiple times a day, I hate crumbs and its less labour intensive than sweeping..

Reasonable activity at a reasonable time. YABU

What does her being a single woman have to do with anything?

Maybe OP is trying to insinuate that she has loads of cats that necessitate daily vacuuming.

OP YABU.

I hear vacuuming is fun?

I actually do think vacuuming is fun. 😂 I also enjoy steam cleaning the linoleum.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/07/2025 19:23

Maybe she has really bad scurf? Maybe she eats a lot of croissants? Maybe it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 22/07/2025 19:24

Your neighbour is unreasonably filthy. Ten minutes vacuuming on the hour every hour for me!

johnd2 · 22/07/2025 19:24

Not unreasonable to find it annoying. Lots of people are sensitive to random noises. So you'd be in good company.
But I don't see what you can do about it other than move to a detached house! Maybe make a ceremony of it, use the chance to get your own hoover out, bang on the tunes?

iamnotalemon · 22/07/2025 19:26

Oh for goodness sake. Maybe it’s to drown out your noise.

Waterbaby41 · 22/07/2025 19:27

YABVU - it's none of your business!!

Zov · 22/07/2025 19:28

I thought you were going to say your neighbour hoovers for 2 hours at midnight every night, and I would say 'yeah YANBU...' But 10-15 minutes a day at around 6pm???' What's wrong with that LOL?!

YABVU. My lovely neighbour hoovers daily (pretty much) for 10 minutes in the early evening, as she has 2 dogs and 2 little DC, so probably needs to. 2-3 times a week is fine for us. Everyone is different, and I don't mind her hoovering twice as much as me!

Teaandtoastserveddaily · 22/07/2025 19:31

How do you know it's hoover she has?

It might be a Dyson 🤣

Silliness aside, I imagine many people vacuum their homes every day and it's a non issue. Would you rather she bounced a ball on the patio or played loud music?

AngelicKaty · 22/07/2025 19:31

@paintthetown YABU OP. As the owner of a large cleaning company once told me, "the best way to keep a house clean is to never let it get dirty." I vacuum downstairs two or three times a day. I got into the habit when we had our dog (who died six months ago) as he was always bringing in stuff on his fur from our woody garden - I've carried on as I've realised DH doesn't tidy up after himself either! 😂
What surprises me is that you can hear your NDN vacuuming - how thin are your walls?! 😳

XenoBitch · 22/07/2025 19:34

You can find it annoying, but she is doing nothing wrong.

It could be worse... she could have a kid who has been given a recorder.

Morgenrot25 · 22/07/2025 19:34

I definitely don't hoover every day or at a set time of day, but I have no issue with someone who does. I do hoover downstairs, especially hallway, more than upstairs.
(And now we actually own a Hoover, I can use the word hoover)

pontivex · 22/07/2025 19:35

It would annoy the shit out of me mainly because it would remind me that I don’t hoover every day (more like every three weeks)

Hoardasurass · 22/07/2025 19:38

If she has a dustmite allergy it will be something she has to do as part of keeping well

Ihateboris · 22/07/2025 19:42

I'd move if I were you. She sounds like the neighbour from hell...(joking..obviously!)

I hoover everyday as I have allergies. I also, God forbid, wash my bedding at least once a week 😅

Foreverm0re · 22/07/2025 19:42

Must be a pisstake surely? Hoovering every day is normal and she’s done absolutely nothing wrong. Maybe you need to get your hoover out more often op.

U53rn8m3ch8ng3 · 22/07/2025 19:45

I vacuum everyday without fail. To upset you even further I have an outdoor karcher vac that I vacuum my guinea pigs enclosure out with. Every day.

fizzwhizz1 · 22/07/2025 19:46

I hoover everyday single day multiple times a day and also use my washing machine every single day more than once (lots of small children). I live in a semi detached house. I'm glad you are not my neighbour!

Openmouthinsertfood · 22/07/2025 19:48

Zanoni · 22/07/2025 19:19

I don’t have children or pets and I hoover at least once a day. My son is an electrician and drops brick dust from his hair/clothes, why does it bother you?

If you don't have children, how do you have a son? 😕

Zov · 22/07/2025 19:49

Openmouthinsertfood · 22/07/2025 19:48

If you don't have children, how do you have a son? 😕

I'm guessing @Zanoni means no children at home?
