Neighbour hoovers everyday

We live in a semi detached bungalow and our next door neighbour (single woman) hoovers every single day without fail. It only lasts 10-15 minutes and is usually in the evening around 6-7pm. AIBU to find it annoying? I can’t understand why someone would need to hoover that much unless they have kids or pets (she has neither)

I hoover everyday single day multiple times a day and also use my washing machine every single day more than once (lots of small children). I live in a semi detached house. I'm glad you are not my neighbour!

You hoover multiple times a day? Why?

itbemay1 · 22/07/2025 19:50

I hoover daily!

TheRainisPurple · 22/07/2025 19:50

I hoover twice a day.

Well, the hoover does.

It's a robot.

But yes YABU, if i was your neighbour and I knew this I'd be hoovering on the hour every hour throughout the day.

quicklywick · 22/07/2025 19:52

You would hate me i had the hoover out at 3 this morning getting a huge spider

Zov · 22/07/2025 19:49

I'm guessing @Zanoni means no children at home?

Fair do's. 🙂

legoplaybook · 22/07/2025 19:53

Surely that is normal?

I hoover at least once and often 3 times a day.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/07/2025 19:53

YABVU.

CatKings · 22/07/2025 19:55

I Hoover most days (cat litter)a

Megapint · 22/07/2025 19:55

I vacuum and mop every day, sometimes twice. I walk around with bare feet most of the time and hate dirty floors.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 22/07/2025 19:55

Possibly a dust allergy, I hoover and mop everyday due to ds2 anaphylactic allergies.

I freeze his quilt/pillows weekly for the exact same reason.

If you don't have children, how do you have a son? 😕

Young children, I would have thought that was obvious

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/07/2025 19:56

there's no need to vacuum daily surely. If people have carpets, they must be completely worn out.

If you mean the carpets rather than the people getting worn out, apparently that's not what happens. Weirdly, clean carpets apparently wear out less quickly than dirty ones. Something to do with dirt having sharp edges which cut the fibres?

Butchyrestingface · 22/07/2025 19:57

AIBU to find it annoying?

Yes. You must be easily annoyed.

As to why she does it?

  • Maybe she likes hoovering.
  • Maybe she has asthma and needs to keep her home as dust-free as possible.
  • Maybe she's house-proud.
  • Maybe she's training for a spot on the UK team at the Hoovering World Championships in Honolulu 2028.
  • Maybe she likes pissing off her easily-annoyed neighbours.

All very valid reasons, but ultimately, none of your business.

TappyGilmore · 22/07/2025 19:57

You are totally unreasonable. 6pm to 7pm? It’s hardly an intrusion.

WonderingWanda · 22/07/2025 19:59

I wish I was the sort of person who could get it together enough to hoover every day....instead I've bought a Eufy and it hoovers every day instead. No more cat hair and crumbs all over the floor, it's bliss.

fizzwhizz1 · 22/07/2025 20:00

@Zov Yes I hoover more than once a day! I have small children that often knock something over, drop biscuit crumbs or stomp mud into the house. That is life!

As an autisic person, no, not so obvious to me.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 22/07/2025 20:01

Not a big deal at all. I used to run a robot vacuum every day. It’s nice having everything looking neat.

Just when I thought mumsnet had given us all it had…

😆 I mean there’s first world problems and then there’s @paintthetown‘s list!

Rosscameasdoody · 22/07/2025 20:02

Mind your own bloody business. NDN’s housework is none of your concern.

Isobel201 · 22/07/2025 20:03

So just turn up the TV a bit louder for 10 minutes?

Zov · 22/07/2025 20:06

Fairy nuff! Smile

Shetlands · 22/07/2025 20:06

I feel like a slob now - I haven't hoovered upstairs since the summer solstice.

handsdownthebest · 22/07/2025 20:06

You need to get out more 🙄

Lavenderbluex · 22/07/2025 20:06

I’ve always hoovered daily even before having kids. Mainly because I have very thick long hair which molts terribly. If I leave it a day it looks terrible!
