One million immigrants claiming benefits

1000 replies

AnxiousApocalypse · 16/07/2025 01:15

Just been reading the comments sections of the Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail articles about the one million foreigners claiming benefits in the UK. It feels like the final nail in the coffin and a lot of people will feel even more justified in expressing their anger and hate towards immigrants. What happens when Reform win the next general election and come into power? Will people be rounded up en masse and put in detention centres like the USA?

You didn't make any points. You sound like you're reiterating the Daily Mail comments section. You didn't state facts and narrow minded ignorance and intolerance is bigotry. Just own it.

Sigh.
I stated the fact that my daughter was followed home from school by two middle Eastern men, and that others have been reported for hanging around the school fields and asking primary school age children if they ‘would like to be my girlfriend’, facts that doesn’t seem to bother you in the slightest, as you’re too busy frothing about intolerance & bigotry. No, I don’t wish to tolerate this predatory behaviour from men with vastly different cultures and values to our own who have paid smugglers to get here, thanks.
I do hope you don’t have daughters with that kind of blinkered attitude. Like I said, we have enough home grown paedophiles and rapists without importing more.
Oh, and you still haven’t shown evidence for the supposed net economic benefit they bring.

I imagine the numbers of migrants coming here to the UK would massively reduce if they were not entitled to any benefits whatsoever until they'd been here and contributed for many years. Also they should not be granted social housing.
You cannot blame anyone one for wanting to come and live here, if your giving it away then they're obviously going to come and take it.

I dont believe that’ll make a difference. U.K. has a massive draw globally.

I agree. One person I know was granted the right to remain and off she popped to the council who had a duty to house her. If you think of all the people who are granted the right to remain, this is one of the reasons there's such a strain on housing. Meanwhile British families are stuck in mould infested, one bedroom flats for a family of five. It's not on.

ffsfindmeausername · 16/07/2025 16:22

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 16/07/2025 16:14

And they do want to give back.

I know of asylum seekers volunteering in care homes, charity shops and homeless charities. Whilst they are held in limbo awaiting a decision. Some waiting 10 years. Speed up the process and let these people contribute like they want to.

They do this volunteering because it goes in their favour and makes them look good and like they're contributing to society on their asylum application.

Have experienced the exact same thing with my little sister only 12 at the time and evidently so, and many unsafe experiences had by family members too, thing in common was the culture.

We should only be letting people in on limited routes like genuinely high skilled workers (including nurses etc where we have a need) and international students who are paying our universities for courses.

The whole point of working age migrants being here is to work and to add to the economy. If they're not working or paying for study then why are they here?

TheHateIsNotGood · 16/07/2025 16:24

This 'refusing to work' idea is wierd. Many people want to work but in some areas there really aren't hardly any jobs. Except care work and in truth many people aren't suited to that. In most areas of the UK it would be unimaginable that you couldn't even get a job in a supermarket yet there are many areas where it takes a lot of applications and time to even land a part-time supermarket job. There aren't many local industries left for people to work in.

You're wasting your time with the MN liberals on their high salaries in their leafy white suburbs.

TreatTreat · 16/07/2025 16:26

I sincerely hope there are countrywide protests and rallies. This has got to stop. I'm sick of being the only white face in some places.

Close the borders. Send the boat migrants back to France. I had to laugh when I was recently at a seaside town and the asylum seekers were all sunbathing outside their hotel housing accommodation. They were having a much better time in nicer living accommodation than many home grown folks.

User135644 · 16/07/2025 16:26

MiloMinderbinder925 · 16/07/2025 16:17

You don't believe that suppressing wages by importing cheap labour is Tory?

It might be why they were happy with mass immigration, but when you've had 13 years of New Labour followed by 14 years of Tory open borders and Britain being the world's soft touch - and now governed by a human rights lawyer - then the equilibrium is bound to be broken.

Catladywithoutacat · 16/07/2025 16:27

People are only arguing or upset over this because of the cost of living is ridiculous now. A lot of immigrants here work, doctors, nurses, or own businesses. My local is a Turkish shop, I love an Indian, only allow Asians to do my nails or facials, only allow Greek or Turkish girls to do my hair….etc

TreatTreat · 16/07/2025 16:27

Please can anyone tell me why that ship in Dorset didn't happen. Was it called the Bibby? Also why the plan to send illegal immigrants to Rwanda didn't happen? Genuinely curious.

I doubt they would hold onto their views for long if an iffy migrant from a country where child brides are acceptable, follows their girl home from school.

But a lot don't and a lot we're paying billions for in hotel accommodation. It's shit.

For years the public were fed the line of immigration being good for the economy. It was tolerated more as people accepted that narrative even if they were uneasy with the scale of change.

Its been completely obliterated now though as a myth and just adding to economic problems, suppressing wages and making housing unaffordable.

angelos02 · 16/07/2025 16:30

I agree with a PP that said it is easy to be so forgiving of the immigration crisis - as long as it isn't on your backyard. I'm not affected by it yet - but I know I will be - as will everyone else.

Cel77 · 16/07/2025 16:30

I'm French. I'm a UK qualified teacher. I'm a good teacher. I've lived, worked and paid my taxes here for 22 years. I have 2 children with a British man. We all live together. We receive child benefit and the DLA for our son,who is autistic.
What would you suggest is wrong with my situation?

My doctor is a migrant, so is one of my close friends. The biggest issue in the current times are the illegal migrants (not legal) who are turning up on the shores in boats, most of whom are adult men.

All the hand-wringing is not helpful. ASFAIK:

Asylum seekers can not work (legally) nor claim benefits but they are a drain on the public purse.

The majority of 'foreigners' who claim benefits (nb: UC) are EU nationals with post-Brexit settled status and that was happening before Brexit. There was a time even when an EU national with his/her family domiciled in their home EU country could claim CTC and CB and send it back home. Hardly Auf Weidershen Pet.

Most foreign nationals have to show they are/will not be dependent on the state, including paying fees in advance towards any NHS care.

Talk of Reform being the next Govt are pretty fanciful, that said my newly-elected Reform County Councillor does seem worth his salt in terms of getting stuck into the day-to-day grind of local government administration.

We are where we are folks, let's not get hysterical and land blame wherever it best suits are mindset and narratives. We need to sort this shit out, grubby work that it is.

Makes me laugh going back to history as a reason for anything as if the UK (and all the separate nations that make it up) were the only bastard colonialists out there raping and pillaging; the Vikings did a mighty fine job of that after the Romans left. Never mind the Portugese, Spaniards, French, Italians, Germans and even the Americans did elsewhere in more modern times.

The Muslims were mighty warriors and conquerors too. The Mongols. The Japanese. The Maori.

Everyone was at it.

I don't believe you. Too many Reform supporters have tales straight from the Daily Mail about ME men looking at them sideways. The bigotry is in tarring everyone with the same brush and calling people from different cultures predators and rapists.

Strange how the frothers say nothing whatsoever about the UKs VAWAG crisis yet march against foreign men. Wasn't a Reform MP imprisoned for domestic abuse?

Sigh.

TheHateIsNotGood · 16/07/2025 16:33

@Catladywithoutacat by only allowing certain nationalities to do your 'bits for you' is racist as well as excluding the indigeneous population. Do you base your judgements against the indigenous population on the colour of their skin, their cultural practices or what?

MageQueen · 16/07/2025 16:35

I admit I haven't read the whole thread but it took 10 seconds of googling this "stat" to see that lots of benefits are being claimed by people who have every right to be here. I am foreign born but have always had a British passport and been a British citizen. DH is here as an EU citizen who moved here nearly 30 years ago. Both of have worked, paid taxes, contributed to our communities. We claim child benefit. If we were unemployed, and eligible, we'd claim UC.

And articles make it clear the vast bulk of people claiming benefits are people just like us.

You're correct it isn't all immigrants, however if you look at sexual crimes per 1000 people by nationality, you really cant argue with statistical facts. And i'm sure there are rage baiting stories invented, but many are also true sadly

Exactly. Men from far away countries culturally have little respect for women. We're not seen as equals. We're seen merely as childcare and a maid and there to satisfy their sexual needs. Fuck no. This isn't what the suffragette movement was far. If you move to this country, live by our morals and standards and respect everyone.
