How did they find the money for this? Also, no checks to confirm what sort of people we are letting into the country.

This country is an utter disaster,m

This will be being paid for via borrowed money - have the largest tax burden and largest debt and flatlining economy, with middle earners bearing the brunt. people have a right to know about it and the costs, we are facing tough choices and whilst i am ok with reasonable defence spending per se, this money is at the expense of other things and people need to realise that.

They helped our military out. They put their lives on the line for us and then their data was breached which put them and their families at huge risk. We absolutely owe them this.

At the expense of other things in the MOD's budget like, for example, continuing to have a presence in Afghanistan.

Cover up after cover up after cover up. When the government asks you trust something, it’s best to do the opposite.

PinkChaires · 15/07/2025 22:13

Thanks, im willing to bet that the 50 percent of men are from villages which are very backwards , uneducated and not reflective of the entire of afghan society. Presumably those who helped the british army and are so coming here are educated individuals who live in urban areas and therefore find the practise abhorrent

It's 20k people plus their dependents.

Do you have the same problem with the estimated 300,000 people coming to live the UK from Hong Kong, in addition to the 100,000+ that have already arrived?

Or is it just the Arab ones that only need rehoming because of our government policy that you don’t like?

If you are going to race bait, at least get the ethnicity right.

The leak was probably done on purpose by a left wing home office official. And the government probably lapped it up because it gave them a free pass to open the door to the whole group of people.

The leak came from the MoD. That’s why their SofS has apologised for it. And generally civil servants don’t leak - when it happens on purpose (not this example) it’s normally the Spads.

One thing we can be sure of is that there is a cover up. The cover up happened because the leak would have been done on purpose. To create a free pass for waving in this number of people without scrutiny.

It was prevalent among the local security forces that worked with the US and British miliarties, too. There are quite a few reportings about it from the US military (and how they were instructed to turn a blind eye) and Vice published a documentary, by a British filmmaker, which covered the practice, and how systemic it was, in security forces in the city of Sangin.

They were going to be resettled here anyway, the leak escalated the urgency.

Who instructed them to turn a blind eye and why did the soldiers seemly blindly follow orders?

It was a soldier who sent the email. Soldiers are obviously known to be massively left-wing and bleeding heart liberals 🙄

A slight aside here

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cev40r9yve4o

This came out in May

A UK Special Forces officer personally rejected 1,585 resettlement applications from Afghans with credible links to special forces, newly released documents say.

The files, disclosed by the Ministry of Defence in court on Thursday, show the unnamed UKSF officer rejected every application referred to him in the summer of 2023, in what was described as a "sprint".

The MoD told the court that the officer may have been connected to matters under examination by the ongoing inquiry into alleged war crimes committed by the SAS.

The admission comes after the BBC revealed last week that the UKSF officer – who previously served in Afghanistan - rejected applications from Afghans who may have witnessed the alleged crimes.

Afghan commandos, known as the Triples, supported the SAS and SBS for years in Afghanistan and were in danger of reprisal after the Taliban seized back the country in 2021.
But thousands of UK resettlement applications containing credible evidence of service in the Triples were rejected.

These were soldiers who worked with UK special forces and who were at risk when the UK and USA left the country leaving them behind.

What should happen when a country is invaded, people in the country support the invaders to help bring about change and then the invading country leaves, leaving people who helped them behind and at risk*

People are people and if they need help they should get it. It makes no difference where they are from or what they are called.

Must be nice to live in such naivety. to believe everything you are fed, even after it being proven time after time that government and authorities will lie as much as they possibly can to conceal truth which is politically inconvenient.

I dont understand this, why are forces officers making decisions about who comes in this country?

Thats for immigraiton to decide surely?

Testerical · 15/07/2025 22:40

@Jennps i am genuinely curious what your solution in this situation would have been.

Imagine you are the one at the MoD who has discovered the data breach. What happens next?

Testerical · 15/07/2025 22:45

But more than being curious; am now over and out from this and similar threads because I don’t want to be complicit in engagement farming for right-wing propagandists. Responding gives these people oxygen, and I’m not doing that any more.

PinkChaires · 15/07/2025 22:29

Who instructed them to turn a blind eye and why did the soldiers seemly blindly follow orders?

Probably because USA/ and Brit army has just as much to hide. Look up the Muhammidiya rape cases and 14 year old Abeer Al -Janabi. I wouldn’t respond to the goading posts about Bacha bazi. It’s definitely an issue which when looked into no doubt makes one sick however none of the posters have genuine care or justice for those victims, they’re just convenient pawns to push the hate propaganda against migrants or anyone who they view as such.

in fact it was the entire purpose of this thread.

I think it's the right decision to bring them here. They helped our military and if left in Afghanistan they would be brutally killed by the Taliban.

Where the fuck is some peoples humanity for gods sake? I am sick of this anti immigrant right wing narrative that is constantly pushed and pushed. They are human beings. Human beings, like you and me. This is a sick, divisive world we live in. I feel like humanity is dead and theres no hope.

Hibernatingtilspring · 15/07/2025 23:34

@Libby00
Not true. Whilst Hong Kong was a British colony until the late nineties, that doesn't make them British citizens. It does mean that there are some easier routes for people from Hong Kong to move here, but citizenship is far from guaranteed.

It's also odd that your justification is based on - people who happen to be born in a country that we colonised VS people born in a country that we invaded and who risked their lives to help us. But you think the former are worthy and the latter are not, on what? A technicality? A technicality that you don't even fully understand, given you assume citizenship?
