Is it socially acceptable to not wear a bra in public?

Is this genuinely unacceptable?… I know some people wear bras because they have to. But I don’t have to as they’re frickin tiny.

I hate wearing one, and often wear a bralet/crop top type one. But in work I wear a normal padded one as I don’t want my nips poking through…. But is this an unnecessary thought process?

Is it okay to not wear a padded bra in the work place, and is it okay to not wear a bra at all in public?

I obvs have a top on!

After the amount of bare moobs I've seen over the last few days, i wouldn't give a crap about anyone else's opinion on my nips being visible under a top

Doitrightnow · 13/07/2025 20:42

I didn't wear a bra for a while when breastfeeding as I was getting painful blocked ducts. It was really obvious that I wasn't wearing a bra and my mother was shocked.

I always wear a bra outside of the house normally because even under normal circumstances my nipples stick out a mile. Like, 1.5cm minimum. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable at work with my nipples so prominently on show. I'd at least have to wear stick on nipple covers.

I do it, I reallt dgaf. I usually wear oversized type tees and like you I have nothing there so you can’t even tell half the time. Even when you can, I just don’t care. I ain’t trying to impress anyone.

I don't always wear one. I didn't this morning and I still haven't got round to it. I am a lifelong member of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee though.

I tend to wear a padded bralet for work if I have f2f meetings as although I have small breasts my nipples are prominent regardless of temperature. I don't feel comfortable standing in front of a group delivering a presentation or teaching knowing that people will notice. If I'm wfh I'm braless, if just going to sit at a desk then it depends on the weather/ what I'm wearing as to whether I feel I need the coverage or not. I was once (on a course getting a teaching/ instructional qualification) told (by a male examiner) that I should wear a bra as my nipples were a distraction!! This was 20+ years ago... now, I don't think they would say that, but they may well still think it!

I have a daughter and three granddaughters, and we all go braless in these temperatures. Just wear something that your nipples don't show through, like a dark shirt, and you'll be fine.

if a top is fitted surely the nipples show regardless of the colour.

Trentdarkmore · 13/07/2025 20:54

I never wear a bra. Sometimes I wear a compression vest.
I am surprised so many people have a problem with nipples being visible, but I grew up in the seventies.

moanamovie · 13/07/2025 20:55

I’ve just bought some crop top type things, I’m also a tiny busted woman, I am paranoid that my nips will show through… considering putting an extra layer of fabric over the back of them? Failing that, a sneaky plaster over my nips?! I do this with a particular top I wear that is backless, works well! A bitch to remove though 😂

FastMauveQuoter · 13/07/2025 20:55

I also have small boob's, and I hate bras as I find them so uncomfortable. I had my left boob reconstructed years ago as I had breast cancer, so have no nipple on this side, so if it's cold I'd only have 1 nip visible. I get round it by wearing the small round silicone nipple covers. You can get them easily and cheaply on Amazon, job done!

GoogolB · 13/07/2025 20:57

Literally everyone has nipples: men, women, children. If you care about them being noticeable wear a looser fitting top.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 13/07/2025 20:57

I have small boobs, which are still pointing the right way. But I dont go without a bra, unless I'm in my pyjamas because I just don't like the feel of it.

I wouldn't not go without a bra, but my choice to wear one has nothing to do with what anyone else thinks.

limescale · 13/07/2025 20:58

I have very small breasts. I am on holiday with my 16 yo son and just feel a bit self conscious if my nipples show.
It’s daft - we’re sitting by the pool and he’s seeing lots of thong bikinis (not me).
Under loose fitting clothes I’’m fine but not with fitted clothes.
I am not comfortable with my colleagues seeing my nipples either.

Silicone nipple covers from Amazon! Work a treat. They are sticky, apart from the middle bit, so no hurting on removal.

pinksheetss · 13/07/2025 21:04

I hope so as with this heat over the weekend not a chance was I wearing a bra

RogueRascal · 13/07/2025 21:13

This really depends on the clothes I think, I wear one most of the time but not always. However if you have piercings or larger boobs then it would be more obvious and potentially attract negative attention sadly

Especial · 13/07/2025 21:14

I wear a 28FF bra but occasionally don’t bother at work (professional) and more often in public. I don’t have particularly prominent nipples and if I am wearing a supportive top/dress, which I always do at work, I doubt anybody even notices.

I am not bothered by anyone’s nipples showing through a shirt: male or female. It doesn’t matter what what you like. Butt cheeks I don’t need to see though!

purpleme12 · 13/07/2025 21:30

Mmm I think in work I would always wear a bra
But otherwise if they're small enough to be ok without one then it's fine I'm sure

Unless they're really big, then it's really obvious you should have one on. Mine are far too big to ever go without

monkeysox · 13/07/2025 21:30

AssemblyPoint · 13/07/2025 20:19

See, this is my concern! So it’s a genuine one?

Yes. I know it shouldn't be but it looks awful.
I couldn't go out without one.

I'm in the office every day, and I don't wear a bra, haven't for years. There are one or two tops i would wear one with, but they're not really ones I'd wear in the office anyway. I wear a bralette for yoga.

If anyone has complained, it hasn't got back to me. And yes, I do not have the biggest tits in the office, but I am the only woman...

I hate wearing bras also - had a breast reduction in my 20s and they’re still a decent size so most my life I’ve always needed to wear one - but…a few weeks ago I realised if I wear a baggy t shirt with an open shirt thrown over - it’s impossible to tell I’m not wearing a bra! It feels so risqué whenever I do it but I love it and now look like a tomboy as that’s permanently my outfit of choice lol. I work in a massive office and don’t really knows anyone there and all my colleges work in different regions so don’t need to worry about any judgments so now that’s all I do baby just rotate them T-shirts and overshirts all week long! 😅

Rallentanda · 13/07/2025 21:36

When I was about 20 and svelte/small-breasted, I went to the corner shop with no bra on. Two boys of about 12 walked past me and one of them called ‘Hello Mrs Bouncy Bouncy!’ with the result that I’ve not gone out without a bra for 33 years 🤣

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 13/07/2025 21:38

No one has to wear underwear. I've seen men with dick imprints showing.

I've looked when I've seen someone with no bra and I've been looked at for not wearing one, especially as mine are big.

Same way you'd notice scrunch bum shorts more than a skirt or dress.

It draws attention for a quick glance but that's it.

If you're comfortable that's all that matters.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 13/07/2025 21:38

I don't wear one unless I'm expecting to have to dodge, duck, dip, dive or dodge and I'm a H cup.

They get to a certain weight and honestly the bras just cause pain no matter how "supportive" they claim to be. They have to dig in somewhere, either the straps or the bust because otherwise how are they going to offer any sort of support?

So you do whatever is most comfortable to you.
