To just shut the door on religious door-knockers, with no comment?

I used to smile and say "I'm not religious", but a friend pointed out that this still confers some degree of social legitimacy on their absurd intrusion into my life.

I decided that a better tactic, when it becomes clear that a doorknocker is peddling religion, is to just silently close the door in their face.

Wondering how many people here agree that this is a reasonable response to unreasonable intrusion, and how you choose to respond to these people.

I just tut, scowl, and shut the door on them.

Just put a sticker on the door saying no canvassers, religious groups etc.

A bloke knocked on my door the other night. Some idiot must have let him into the block.

He smiled & told me he was spreading awareness but we never got as far as what he was spreading awareness of. I smiled, said no thank you, closed the door & that was that.

We’re blacklisted after DH gave some JWs a maths/science lesson and a copy of the New Scientist in return for The Watchtower. 😂

I have a sticker on the door stating no religious / unsolicited business callers etc. If I happen to inadvertantly open the door (ring doorbell also helps here) I point to sticker & close door.

I am a genius, as I used to blast the metal when I saw these types on my estate, as a teenager in the 90s!

They didn't dare come to our door! 😆

What’s rude is to walk onto someone’s private property without an invitation, disturb them and try to push your delusions onto them. The very least they deserve is having a door shut in their faces.

I tell them to fuck off. I have a sign and they still knock so I think telling them to fuck off is justified personally. So rude to just turn up at someone's home pushing total nonsense.

We’ve got a “no soliciting” sign on our porch that reads:

”We don’t want solar panels, we are happy with our internet provider, we know who we’re voting for and we are firm friends with Satan. Don’t knock…..don’t make it weird”

I always invite them in- any time spent talking to me is time protecting people that might fall prey to them.

Also the Mormons in the street- I spend a lot of time telling them that when they get to my age (mid fifties) they’ll be embarrassed to have spent their twenties like this, and they should go out drinking beer and having sex with any woman or man who’ll have them.

It's rude for people to come to your home uninvited and try and push their religious agenda on you. Very rude and obnoxious. If people want to find out about different religions, then they will go out and do it. They are basically just sales people and they are bloody annoying.

We have only had them call once. I told them that we are regular church goers. Which is true.

They took us off their list and just walk past our house now.

You don't have to answer the door if you're not expecting anyone.

You could also ask Who is it? before opening the door. Then just say no thanks if you'renot interested.

Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't entitle being rude to them. They're still people.

Yanbu, I just ignore and shut, they’re rude by doing door to door sales for their religion. I used to have a sticker on my old house, it did nothing but I’d point to it while shutting.

Generally speaking I’m not in favour of people treating each other in cold transactional ways, it’s a slippery slope. It’s good for your soul to be benevolent.

Same as local councillors and canvassers. Right?
