To just shut the door on religious door-knockers, with no comment?

I used to smile and say "I'm not religious", but a friend pointed out that this still confers some degree of social legitimacy on their absurd intrusion into my life.

I decided that a better tactic, when it becomes clear that a doorknocker is peddling religion, is to just silently close the door in their face.

Wondering how many people here agree that this is a reasonable response to unreasonable intrusion, and how you choose to respond to these people.

I agree that it's rude and entitled, never mind disruptive.

I smile and say that, sorry, I have my own beliefs. They smile back, say goodbye, and leave. All is well with the world.

If I shut the door in their faces, the unpleasantness would leave me feeling jarred for a good few minutes. What's the point in doing that to myself?

My grandparents were Plymouth Brethren, never had any involvement myself, but I know a lot about their very orthodox puritanical stance to know they are the natural defence against the latecomers to the evangelical line up.

I simply say I'm Plymouth Brethren, and watch them, in some cases run up the drive!!

JW I can cope with they seem understanding when I say I’m not interested. We unfortunately get the SPUC in our area knocking to give leaflets or just putting them through the door and the content is sometimes upsetting

Are they being rude to knock? They are yes, but they may not mean to be so they get basic politeness from me.

60+ years ago I was introduced to the concept of Sunday School by a nice old lady we only knew as Mrs Giles. If I believed in heaven I'd believe she was there now. I also got to know a couple of Mormon Missionaries who were really nice guys.

But I've encountered a lot of the other kind since. The ones who tell kids that mummy and daddy will go to hell and be tortured if they don't join their church. The ones that intimidate women going into clinics, The homophobes, the misogynists and the creepy ones who think little Billy would make a nice choir boy.

I would totally do this if I had religious door knockers come to my house. Thankfully,it's not something I have to deal with as they have to get past the intercom system and security door first.

I took her noteoad from her as i was watching from the top window whilst 2 of them knocked my door, i saw her write my address in her notebook obviously as a we will return she didnt answer, i was beyond furious i ran down and opened the dooe and said how effing dare you write my address down which she denied, i grabbed her pad and my address was there, i said F Off and slammed the door and kept her notebook...

We get 2 Jehovah Witnesses calling about once a year. I will politely tell them I’m not interested and that’s all they need to be on their way. I feel sorry for them that their batshit religion requires them to doorstep, it must be awful.

I have a short spiel for JW's, it involves that fact that blood transfusions save lives, they are in an evil cult, and they bear personal responsibility for all those who have died from refusing blood transfusions because they are a JW. I say all that then shut the door. It's a few years til they come back.
