As a flip side to the expensive letdowns thread , has anyone bought anything low cost that’s been good ?
I got a mascara in b and m that’s great on my long blonde but thin eyelashes.
And an ineos hand wash that is actually really nice.

I have the Aldi Rice cleanser which is fantastic, bit pricey at £4.99 plus I can't be without Lacura Q10 multi intensive serum with Hyaluronic acid. @Daygloboo

Thanks !

I bought a Bluetooth headband facemask thing, £6 from TikTok shop. It’s got a padded bit around the eyes so it doesn’t press on your eyelids when you’re asleep and it’s so comfy! I can’t sleep without it now.

A hand held fan from Argos. Not sure if they’re still reduced but they were £12 from £15. They’re also sold in Sainsbury’s but for £15. Come in a few colours.

Have bought several as gifts now too and everyone loves them. Rechargeable and 3 speeds and they fold backwards so can sit on a desk or table too.

Ps did anyone catch which shower gel was recommended in Lidl? I’ve been through all the pages and not sure if I missed it

Oh sorry I think it was me who mentioned the Lidl shower gel and never confirmed what it was. I think it's just called Deluxe and there were two varieties when I was there.
It's a large cylindrical bottle.

I'm away at the moment so can't check but you should be able to find it.

A set of 2 pairs of exfoliating gloves from Primark for 2 quid plus a knock off version of Baby Oil from the pound shop for 99p. I exfoliate in the shower eith shower gel and put the oil on after. Game changer for my skin.

What a fab thread - off to look at the contents of my Amazon basket, and decide what to purchase immediately, and what to put on hold for a later date. Looking forward to more recommendations, too! Thanks everyone x

lidl also do a knock off posh shower gel in a black bottle. It looks like agh, can’t remember! But the shop is gorgeous, all wood and black bottles with some sort of testers, sink in the middle. This smells divine.

Thank you, the grapefruit handwash is just like Aesop.
Stocked up today when I was in there and remembered your post.
The other scent is a Zara dupe, gorgeous!

A CGM monitor for my type 2 diabetes, its changed my life, I'm now almost at non diabetic levels and have lost almost a stone

which one did you buy? I had gestational diabetes and I often wonder if my blood sugar spikes. I'd like to test it for a week to see

The other thing I’ve bought recently, but forgot until I did Sunday lunch yesterday is one of those umbrella net things, huge one, 100cm x 60cm, so I could cover all the serving dishes on my kitchen breakfast bar area

Maybe we should be suggesting purchases from independent high street, local stores or makers, rather than so many Amazon/Shein products!

Edited

Feel free, but I doubt they’d fit the ‘low cost’ spirit of the thread.

caramac04 · 25/07/2025 09:02

Whilst I get the point of independent shops they’re not likely to be close to many of us.
Soooo another Amazon purchase - available at Temu and possibly physical shops although I’ve not seen them locally -
Rechargable fly repellent fan. Brilliant.
2 strips of holographic paper/plastic which whirl around and repel flies. Great for around food. About £7 each.
Mine sit on top of a beer or wine bottle so pack away in their small box but I’ve seen ones on their own stand too.

Rechargeable light bulbs. Such a great solution when you need a light but no plug socket nearby. Very snazzy as you control it through a remote controller and you can do different colours etc, I love it! And now I have a bedside light for reading 😊😊😊

I’m not so sure, one of my best low cost buys, is this, for the shelf in the shower. Bought on a day visit, from an owner run independent. Stops soggy, mushy soap, washes and dries quickly.

Also beats the ‘low cost’ £105 hoovers…also suggested on here.

It's all relative, the hoover mentioned was on sale, so cheaper than the usual.

Why not just post ypur contributions instead of trying to police the thread, people can post what they like.

Another one of mine, these are great and fit most bottles.
Currently on sale, so bought for friends too. https://portuguesetreasures.com/products/stainless-steel-cork-freeflow-with-lid-pourer?_pos=2&_sid=4d06c1c8d&_ss=r

Ok this is extra boring BUT I just bought a bin for the car following the five minute mum’s recommendation and I can already tell it’s going to be life changing.

https://amzn.eu/d/5CgxL5W

THANK YOU I have now bought this! It drives me insane that crap gets left in the car.

ClaraLane · 27/07/2025 17:55

Thank you for the bin link - just ordered one too! We bought a car hoover from Aldi recently which has been so handy. Definitely feel like I’m getting old 😂

I bought a mini vacuum from Amazon which is fantastic for kitchen use - vacuuming out your salad drawer, the bits of bread that are left on the worktop etc. mini vacuumThey don't have the exact one I bought in stock any more but I found another one so you can see the type - so easy to use, charge and clean.
