Raynor Winn/Sally Walker's statement Raynor Winn

NB Please be careful when it comes to naming or implicating people who aren't in the public eye or have no connection to the story, especially where details are unclear or still emerging i.e. DON'T DO IT.

Keep on the path. No saltiness. Thank you.

New posters welcome. It would be helpful to read at least the three Observer articles before posting.

Raynor and Moth Winn’s redemptive journey from penury and homelessness led to a bestselling book. The truth behind it is very different

We are going to be far too busy dissecting the cider farm owner’s story to be educating someone on the discussion and facts of our 5 previous threads. They are all contained above if she wants to read through them.

Agreed.

From @Lunde on Thread 5:

I presume that the Observer article tomorrow is going to be pretty damning given the sudden influx of deflectors trying to excuse stealing

Was thinking along those lines myself.

I wasn't trying to deflect anything. People are so quick to be snarky on MN! As if I was actively supporting the Walkers or something!

I did say at the outset that I may have missed some details and inevitably ran foul of that.

I do appreciate the clarifications given. I tend towards thinking the best of people unless evidence proves otherwise.

Clearly here the evidence proved otherwise as posters have made clear in their responses.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/07/2025 00:10

That statement made my eyes hurt, sentences starting with 'but' and 'and!'

SmellsLikeTippex · 13/07/2025 00:10

Where have we got the information that the cider farm owner has come forward with a story? I’m interested to hear from someone who self-describes as a cider-making pirate.

BarilynBordeaux · 13/07/2025 00:11

Sorry I’m a bit behind with the threads, is there supposed to be a new Observer article coming out? Did they say this?

It's the front page of the Observer

Choux · 13/07/2025 00:12

From the Sky News website which shows the front pages of the papers. I think I said it was the BBC when I posted it on the last thread.

Ah, thanks, I was staring at the Observer in bafflement.

ThatFluentHedgehog · 13/07/2025 00:16

It looks like the formatting has been rejigged to allow for a 4th article blurb to be dropped in (I'd assume last week's will go into the grid and the newy will be the topper, but maybe not)! I'm sure it looked differently 5 mins ago 😵

Here's an archive link to the pretty decent DM article from yesterday morning.

This story must have been great for sales. Perhaps The Observer online will be late coming out so that it drives paper sales up tomorrow!

FurryHappyKittens · 13/07/2025 00:20

I noticed that little space all ready for the article. It's been like that since at least 22.30.

Don't ask me how I know!

randomchap · 13/07/2025 00:24

Maybe it should be renamed "The pinch of salt path"

LiteralLunatic · 13/07/2025 00:25

@Aspanielstolemysanity you mentioned the mysterious DAT scan on the last thread. It’s rare but both false positive and negative DAT scans do happen eg errors or movement. Drugs can also affect results.

FurryHappyKittens · 13/07/2025 00:25

Here's the link to the Never A Truer Word disection of her statement, in case anyone missed it last thread. Really insightful!

I'm a bit transfixed by the new pictures of the house and dovecot. I wonder what his brother was going to do with the dovecot? It and the house are fairly close together.

Looking at how it looks now, it's criminal that it's been left to deteriorate.

They way Walker talks about taking over the house at the cider farm and lovingly bringing the land back to life...

...compared to the ruination they've caused through their neglect on land they actually own in France.

Shows that it's all superficial, really, doesn't it.

CiderPirateBill has switched his personal Insta to private in anticipation... (bit slow on the draw with that perhaps as it really was quite personal, lots of family snaps).

We would definitely benefit, as a pp said, from a wiki like the Other Place has with key issues / timeline / answers to frequently asked questions from new arrivals such as 'why didn't anyone say anything when the book first came out?' 😄

How old is he? My sense of him, based purely on The Wild Silence, is designer sunglasses and the ‘soft hands of an office worker’, rides around on a motorbike with an unreliable battery, weeping with gratitude at the Walkers’ rewilding efforts.

Apologies for any snark from pps. We are usually a pretty civil lot here on this thread and the 5 others. This far in we are very aware of the possibility of duplicitous posters in this high profile story. Unfortunately there are sometimes those with an agenda who seek to derail the threads. They don't want the discussion to happen at all or want to influence it in a more favourable direction for the Walker-Winns, the books and the film. That is probably why you got the response you did.

I think @FurryHappyKittens had considered putting together a timeline on a previous thread, with input from us all. Would be handy if we could pull one together and then add to it as we go!

Yes, I did see that helpful suggestion! We did start a timeline but than were distracted by moving to a new thread and by RW/SW posting her statement which also belongs in the fiction section IMHO

I agree in theory but I do have a life outside this thread, you know! If it's not good enough for anyone then they are welcome to have a go at something I can add to the OP or pin, otherwise they'll have to decamp to The Other Place and not let the door hit their backsides on the way out. 😁😁😁

Yes, then got sidetracked when Sally Walker's statement came out!!
