Mine is a cordless Dyson vacuum. Cost loads, has a poor battery, doesn’t pick up well, so overrated. Gets rave reviews - why?? My next one will be a Henry ;-) My other is overpriced, average pub/cafe grub when out as a family. Such a waste of time, money and effort. Sorry, I’m usually more upbeat…

A few of my cleaning clients had these, I hated them they always ran out mid clean!!

I bought a Shark Stratos last year it is amazing . It has a 10m cord which is plenty long enough.
I did think I should've bought a cordless but reading reviews about battery life I'm glad I got the corded .

Eufy robo-vac. Utter piece of tat , it glides along , doesn't pick up , gets stuck under the bed ( even though there's nothing to trap it ) then declares it is done and heads back , leaving a trail of fluff . DH has changed the rollers and brushes , no improvement .

Those Prime drinks.
When they came out, they were going for about £20 a bottle. Now you can get them for a £1 in Iceland. The flavours sound nice but every one I have tried, I have poured down the sink (it probably gave it a good clean 😂). Bloody disgusting.

I have not tried it, but a lot of people have said Dubai chocolate is not worth the hype (and cost).

DM has a cleaning company and does not rate Dyson vacuums at all. She uses Henry for all her contracts.

My son and daughter really wanted to try dubai choclate, we found some in aldi for £3.99. Unfortunately my son has a cashews allergy and I later found out pistachios are very similar to cashews and if you have an allergy your body can think its the same thing...I found this all out as he was being taken off in an ambulance with my husband accompanying him

Another vote for the Eufy robot cleaner. Ours has twice ran over cat sick and smeared it all over downstairs. Grim.
Also it ran over a crayon once and drew lines all over the floor. Stopped using it after the above incidents.

I make the lattes, they are amazing. Incredibly expensive though, I limit myself to 1-2 per week!

Oh I don't buy anything special to make them. I just use my usual Oat milk and a teaspoon of instant coffee and it's very nice. I also just use normal cocoa powder and sugar for the hot choc - can't afford the sachets, although they are very nice. I think the velvetiser makes everything taste nicer.

I've had £300 Dyson (in the early 2000s) and honestly I much prefer my £65 vax upright hoover

Sorry to hear that happened to a child, but neither Aldi nor the product are at fault; it is clearly labelled.

We've had ours for 18 years and it's sooooo comfy,it's ruined us for any other mattress. Ours hasn't sunk at all,I reckon you ended up with a dud !

Oh I'm so jealous! It was great to start with but now we wake up with a sore back every day! We got it when dreams was having a sale so maybe they were shifting the bad stock!

Heartbreaktuna · 13/07/2025 10:19

Mountains and mountains of make up that doesn't last, or perform as advertised, or totally wrong shade outside the shop. At least in the states you can return makeup (yes even if opened!)

Apple Watch.

Love mine and I have the ultra

Ryeman · 13/07/2025 10:21

A Millican backpack. I’d fancied one for ages, then they advertised a sample sale in the Lake District which happened to be where we were on holiday (I may have subconsciously planned our whole holiday around it 😂). But it doesn’t live up to my dream - holds barely anything, the roll top is a pain - I’ve used it about twice.

SL129 · 12/07/2025 22:49

I’m glad I’ve seen this, I was just about to buy one!

I’ve had one for 6 years and it’s been great at picking up dog hair. It’s lost a bit of suction power recently, so I’m thinking of replacing it with another eufy with a mop function.

My SMEG range oven. It looks the part but my god it’s shocking!! It’s an absolute pain to clean, one of the ovens doesn’t work, the one that does bakes unevenly and the clock is broken. All £££ to replace. I wish I hadn’t bothered!

On the other side of the argument I have a Dualit kettle and that’s the best money I’ve ever spent.

Same! Smeg shockingly bad quality, I have hob and oven, difficult to use and likes to switch itself off mid cook.
Aunt bought fancy Smeg retro fridge freezer, about 2 grand, gave up the ghost just over two years, unfixable and out of warranty.

Bought an apple macbook, hated it and went back to windows.

For me it has been the opposite: I love how my MacBook Pro loads up quickly and isn't trying to update the moment I switch it on. In comparison, Microsoft operating systems seem clunky.

A very expensive wooden structured play park for the garden. (Swings, slides, monkey bars etc) Children loved it on day one and have barely played with it since… takes up more than half of our garden space!

Every family I know that put something like that in has had the same ... just sits out there, taking up space, rarely used.

Marianwallace · 13/07/2025 10:28

Miele dishwasher. The machine itself operates fine but all the baskets have rusted. I’ve had far cheaper dishwashers and never had this happen. And to replace them costs a mint.

Raybans

Treated myself at the airport, the frame bent within a month. Got a free replacement but no better than the high street sunnies I have bought in the past

Raybans are just high street sunnies - apparently one company owns most sunglasses manufacturing and sales from cheap to really expensive, and they are all pretty much the same (low) quality.

SabreIsMyFave · 13/07/2025 10:33

PSP. (Playstation Portable.) Got one for my DC some 20 years ago, and it costs loads. £200 I think, (so like maybe £375 or so in todays money!)

It was fecking shite. 😆 So tiny! Screen was so small that you needed a magnifying glass to use it! 😬

Pretty much all the baby stuff I bought for my first borne.

Expensive way to learn that collapsible and lightweight Argos strollers and £12 ikea plastic high chairs are much better (and clean better).

Oh so this. I’m now all about vinted and inexpensive stuff.

designer high end sandals- often too uncomfortable to wear and end up stored in a box. Such a waste of money

Rainbow321 · 12/07/2025 22:29

Whilst not really woo hoo expensive , I went through a stage of buying Molton Brown or L' occitane handwash .

In reality I can't tell the difference between them and cheaper stuff ( looking you Bayliss & Harding )

And much prefer Faith in Nature which is considerably better quality & less expensive .

See I don't rate "Faith in nature " at all.

NewsdeskJC · 13/07/2025 10:41

Shark vacuum.
Big, awkward bastard.
It also literally blew up 2 weeks out of warranty. Refused to argue it as I was glad to see the back of it.
Replaced with a henry for £120.

I really like mine. What don't you like about it?

Same.

Husband bought me one for Xmas with the hotel chocolat sachets, initially thought hmmm bit gimmicky and expensive.
But nope, I absolutely love it.

Looking forward to my Pecan Cinnamon Danish hot chocolate already 😋
