Mine is a cordless Dyson vacuum. Cost loads, has a poor battery, doesn’t pick up well, so overrated. Gets rave reviews - why?? My next one will be a Henry ;-) My other is overpriced, average pub/cafe grub when out as a family. Such a waste of time, money and effort. Sorry, I’m usually more upbeat…

We love our velvetiser - very rarely use the expensive sachets from Hotel Chocolat though. We just use normal hot chocolate & milk.

An Elvie breast pump for about £250, first DC wouldn’t touch a bottle so the pump was used about 3 times, second DC will take a bottle and I think great. The thing stopped taking a charge after 4 uses. Was out of warranty at this point so straight in the bin. A lot of money for about 2 feeds

MrsPositivity1 · 13/07/2025 09:16

My Dyson cordless battery died really quickly and wouldn’t recharge. It just kept cutting out.

I bought a dewalt adaptor and battery and now it goes for hours using it. Unfortunately doesn’t fit on the wall mount but that’s okay

MrsPositivity1 · 13/07/2025 09:16

I found the shark cordless very heavy

Sonolanona · 13/07/2025 09:18

Rice cooker... turns out it's just as quick to do it in a pan (or just by instant!)
Dyson hoover... fell apart
Shark... great at first but literally burst into flames!
Now have a Henry Quick and I love it.. it really sucks, the little dust bags last for ages and the battery (a year old) is great.

I've got both, had a cordless Dyson for about 10 years and a cordless Henry for 6 months. They are both fantastic to use though the Dyson battery life is woeful. I mostly use the Henry and won't replace any more Dyson battery packs .... probably .....

The secret to maintaining the battery on the Dyson is to make sure that it has cooled down before you plug in the charger - ie don’t charge it immediately after using. I’ve had my cordless Dyson 5 + years now and the battery life is still as good as ever.

Emma bed frame & mattress. The bed frame was so rickety it was shocking. The mattress was incredibly uncomfortable. Really disappointed

Not sure why that posted so many times… I don’t love it that much…

Edited

Citroen air cross 5 hybrid car. Absolutely dreadful. Back heaters didn’t match the front, made everyone feel sick, no back windscreen wiper, app didn’t work….

Ninja air fryer - this is probably on me though. I'm vegetarian and have no idea what to make in it.

Dualit toaster and kettle - the body of the kettle gets really hot and the toaster... well, toasts bread 🤷‍♀️

Dyson Corrale cordless straightners - they're heavy and awkward to use

I do like my Shark cordless hoover though. So easy without all that cable malarkey and picks up like a dream. I just need to remember to charge it.

I have the Dualit toaster which is great but didn’t bother replacing kettle (my 2nd) as it wasn’t brilliant and was noisy

DollopOfFun · 13/07/2025 09:33

A tip for anyone not happy with the Dyson Cordless, don't buy replacement batteries from Dyson. Buy a Dyson 'compatible' one from Amazon.

Cheaper, and actually more powerful than the original one, and also comes with spare filters.

Our Chinese Dyson rip off battery has now lasted way longer than the original did and still going strong.

Nomdejeur · 13/07/2025 09:36

Neom diffuser, I was promised a spa smelling home and got a slight hint if standing right next to it.

Cactusali · 13/07/2025 09:37

Steam cleaner. Was so excited to be able to have a sparkling clean house with little effort. In reality it is heavy, cumbersome and makes me very hot and sweaty.

Pricelessadvice · 13/07/2025 09:37

Gosh I love mine! What is it you don’t like about it?

At home laser hair removal device. Incredibly expensive, ineffective and covered such a small area that I just got a Groupon and paid to get it done professionally. Ended up giving the one I had away after two uses in 5 years.

Well it wouldn’t have worked after two uses…

Henry quick stick. Family holidays anywhere for the cost now not worth it

I really like mine. What don't you like about it?

FirefliesintheHydrangeaBushes · 13/07/2025 09:43

Pretty much all the baby stuff I bought for my first borne.

Expensive way to learn that collapsible and lightweight Argos strollers and £12 ikea plastic high chairs are much better (and clean better).

No probs. I was working at a university that had a medieval castle keep on its campus. The campus was about 5 miles away from the nearest city amd surrounded by farmland so you'd get off the bus and then walk along the main 'road' on campus and there would be livestock (cows or sheep) in some adjacent fields. The uni had converted the keep's floors into classrooms. On one side the tower was partly in a small field where sheep would graze.

I was covering a session for someone on a module I didn't normally teach and it was scheduled for the classroom on the top floor of the keep. It was near the end of Autumn term but a bit stuffy in there so I opened a window when I got in. The windows have very deep window sills and I took my coat off and put it on the windowsill next to where the window was open. After introducing myself, I asked students to turn their phones off or mute them and put them away. To show willing I said I would do this too. I took my phone out of my pocket, muted it and tossed it - quite gently - onto the windowsill where I had put my coat, probably about 3 or 4 feet away from where I was standing. The coat was partly inside out and had a slippery satin lining. I watched, in what felt like slow motion, as the phone landed on the coat, and slid off the lining, out of the window into the field below. I immediately went to retrieve it and was very relieved to find it was absolutely fine. I on the other hand had shown myself to be a complete dumbass. It's one way to break the ice with a new group, I suppose.

So that is how I "accidentally" threw my phone out of a castle window. Let me know if you want a diagram 😁.

Thank you. That cheered me up.

I have had my cordless dyson for 13 years and only had to replace the battery last year....bought non OEM on Amazon. I have got a stand for it and just plug it straight in after use.

I like the dualit because you can get a 1 litre kettle which has a smaller footprint.

Diptyque candle. Cost £60 and could barely smell it. Had a John Lewis candle that was unlit near it and we could smell that over it.

We have a Halo cordless vacuum and it's fab. Had it years. I'm glad I've read this as I'll stick with Halo should it eventually break.

Completely agree on rice cooker.

The instructions on BBC Good Food website turns out flawless rice.

Also loving the velvetiser , used daily for 2.5 years. Great customer service too. I contacted them to buy a lid after my dog got hold if it and they sent me one free of charge, on the proviso that I kept this one away from the dog.

Have had a Dyson and didn’t rate it, also can’t stand a Henry. Always getting stuck and falling over and just not very powerful. We stuck to Miele - it works well enough.
