Mine is a cordless Dyson vacuum. Cost loads, has a poor battery, doesn’t pick up well, so overrated. Gets rave reviews - why?? My next one will be a Henry ;-) My other is overpriced, average pub/cafe grub when out as a family. Such a waste of time, money and effort. Sorry, I’m usually more upbeat…

I’m glad I’ve seen this, I was just about to buy one!

I love mine and have had it for years.

Shark cordless vaccuum cleaner. They have a great reputation but I didn’t like it at all, it was constantly blocked, broke down. Awful. Got a Dyson to replace it and have had no issues with it.

Same, literally nothing to recommend it, such a waste of money. More fool me for believing the marketing!

Hotel Chocolat, Decided to buy a box for everyone as a treat for Christmas. What a disappointment.@ £14.00 + a small box.Bland tasteless & boring! We binned our box.I was so embarrassed.I should of just not bothered!

They’ve been bought by a US company and the quality has plunged downhill.

They are still coasting on their previous reputation which is why the chocolate doesn’t match the hype.

Hufflemuff · 13/07/2025 08:15

One of those H2O steam mops!! I got it after me and my partner were hypnotised by the 15 minute adverts for it at 4am - during our sons newborn feeding phase lol. It was so heavy and really awkward to handle!

PersephoneParlormaid · 13/07/2025 08:15

I won’t be without a cordless Dyson now, but it’s not the same as an upright, I use it differently

We've had ours for 18 years and it's sooooo comfy,it's ruined us for any other mattress. Ours hasn't sunk at all,I reckon you ended up with a dud !

I agree - have had mine for 20 and it’s fantastic - just a bit hot on hot nights but apart from that - comfort is amazing!

PersephoneParlormaid · 13/07/2025 08:21

I love my Karcher for condensation, but now it leaves streaks the same pattern as the rubber when I clean the windows. So I’ve gone back to window cleaner and a cloth

VimtoQueen90 · 13/07/2025 08:26

@ThreeTescoBags If the update has starting making your battery drain way quicker (this is what happened to mine) weirdly, turn off your location, makes a huge difference!

Cherrysoup · 13/07/2025 08:26

Interesting re the Dyson comments. Battery power on the cordless is crap, but when my corded one blew up-possibly my fault for never cleaning the filters with 2 hairy dogs, had it years-I bought a 2nd hand one from eBay after trying a Russel Hobbs small vacuum (rubbish, been consigned to the upstairs for light cleaning).

I’m over the moon with my 2nd hand Dyson, pulls like a train, place is like new. I’m just peed off the clip to open the container doesn’t work so has to be gently levered open, but for £50, I can’t complain.

Bulldog01 · 13/07/2025 08:28

Daughter, Had to review the Emma Mattress for a magazine company. After owning for a few months,it went lopsided & lumpy.I slept on the mattress for one night.I was so shocked by how uncomfortable it was! That I unzipped the the top covering, & gently pulled out a large piece of fabric which held the pocket springs, they were tiny. This was just held into the mattress with a thin piece of foam. How they make these beds are shocking! At least we found out why they were so uncomfortable.I left a review on Trust pilot, which was removed as we could not provide a receipt!

Re karcher window vac, one of these saved me from despair last winter while waiting for single glazed windows to be upgraded. Made a fast and effective job at clearing copious amounts of condensation on a daily basis!

Oh can understand it for condensation completely but for just standard window cleaning was an utter faff. Also I think a non branded one would have done the exact same thing

Couldyounot · 13/07/2025 08:31

We had a Shark cordless vacuum too, and aside from being quite good at getting underneath things it was decidedly underwhelming.

Also bought a high-end mattress (think £2k for a standard double) from a local chain of bed shops and that was fucking dreadful.

Or the quality has worsened over the years.

Whilst not really woo hoo expensive , I went through a stage of buying Molton Brown or L' occitane handwash .

In reality I can't tell the difference between them and cheaper stuff ( looking you Bayliss & Harding )

And much prefer Faith in Nature which is considerably better quality & less expensive .

Totally disagree with this. Faith in nature & Bayliss are very average at best.
Molten Brown absolutely lasts longer, has better fragrance and you need to use less of it too.

@Splcam

Never had an iPhone but a friend told me that her screen broke when it fell 20 cm off a handbag onto a fluffy carpet. Contrast my Samsung Galaxy which I accidentally threw out of the window from the 3rd floor of a mediaeval castle into a field of sheep and it was completely fine.

I would like to read a bit of backstory about how you "accidentally" threw your phone out of a castle where it then landed in a field of sheep.

No probs. I was working at a university that had a medieval castle keep on its campus. The campus was about 5 miles away from the nearest city amd surrounded by farmland so you'd get off the bus and then walk along the main 'road' on campus and there would be livestock (cows or sheep) in some adjacent fields. The uni had converted the keep's floors into classrooms. On one side the tower was partly in a small field where sheep would graze.

I was covering a session for someone on a module I didn't normally teach and it was scheduled for the classroom on the top floor of the keep. It was near the end of Autumn term but a bit stuffy in there so I opened a window when I got in. The windows have very deep window sills and I took my coat off and put it on the windowsill next to where the window was open. After introducing myself, I asked students to turn their phones off or mute them and put them away. To show willing I said I would do this too. I took my phone out of my pocket, muted it and tossed it - quite gently - onto the windowsill where I had put my coat, probably about 3 or 4 feet away from where I was standing. The coat was partly inside out and had a slippery satin lining. I watched, in what felt like slow motion, as the phone landed on the coat, and slid off the lining, out of the window into the field below. I immediately went to retrieve it and was very relieved to find it was absolutely fine. I on the other hand had shown myself to be a complete dumbass. It's one way to break the ice with a new group, I suppose.

So that is how I "accidentally" threw my phone out of a castle window. Let me know if you want a diagram 😁.

My main peeve about our cordless Dyson (had it for ages, it’s OK) is that it didn’t come with a spare filter. It stops working if the filter needs washing, but there’s no indicator, it’s hard to tell from the outside, and you’re supposed to let it dry away from heat for 24 hours.
Meanwhile, you still haven’t finished the vacuuming!

To avoid the problem, we bought a spare from Dyson, £12.
How bloody stingy is it, not to include a spare in the first place?

(Maybe they do now, I’d be interested to hear)

It’s now back in my Amazon basket after all these positive responses 😂 I’m having a baby later this year so do think it’d be great, one less thing to think about, but had read quite a few comments about it’s reliability!

Dyson hairdryer.
Only bought it recently as lots of people recommended it to me. First few times I thought it was better, but now it still seems just as slow drying as my old hairdryer.

I disagree with the velvetiser and air fryer though. Velvetiser I use every day in winter (though the expensive sachets from hotel Chocolat are over rated and don't taste that nice). Air fryer is also used frequently. Only things it's not used for are pizza and things that wouldn't be oven cooked anyway.

What do you use instead of the hotel Chocolat sachets? Teach me!

Stanley1409 · 13/07/2025 08:48

Elemis pro collegen marine cream. I bought the night cream and the spf day cream. They feel really synthetic and have a slightly odd smell. The night cream is a good moisturiser but there are good ones much much less. It also gives a mild burning sensation when applied to my slightly sensitive skin. Day cream is fine but no better than Nivea.

My basic eufy was okay. But my slightly upgraded eufy on a prime day deal is bloody amazing

Which do you have? Trying to decide which to get

Tepur mattress. Two porkers with bad backs so absolute hell. It also made me very hot.

Any knife claiming life time guaranteed. Nonsense. I am tempted by the Ninja.

Dr Sister younger you face cream £200 (waxy but great at smoothing wrinkles). No spf so nuts.

Dyson cordless, still too heavy for my disabled hands. My cleaner curses as it needs recharging within ten minutes. Tbf we've had loads since the original yellow and grey DC1.

Re knife sharpness I bought this on a whim and it has sharpened the fuck out of my beloved Global Chef’s knife

Dyson hairdryer - ridiculously expensive & broke after a year or so. I now have a £20 one from Amazon & it does the job just as well.

Anewchicken · 13/07/2025 09:07

Miele washing machine, the seal is very soft and tore when I pulled a pair of jeans out to dry them.

Also agree about Dyson vacuums

non Loop earplugs - a quarter of the price but not nearly so comfortable

godmum56 · 13/07/2025 09:07

love my dyson cordless
love my dualit kettle and toaster
love love love my mac laptop.
I much prefer my Duronic induction chocolate maker/milk frother. it cleans with a hot water rinse and can go in the dishwasher if needed. only 40 quid too
