Mine is a cordless Dyson vacuum. Cost loads, has a poor battery, doesn’t pick up well, so overrated. Gets rave reviews - why?? My next one will be a Henry ;-) My other is overpriced, average pub/cafe grub when out as a family. Such a waste of time, money and effort. Sorry, I’m usually more upbeat…

i just tried the weird dubai chocolate - so underwhelming i cant believe how many people fell for it. (it was given to me too thank god)

Just about every 4 country hotel we've ever stayed in. Typically £250 per night, but always slightly shabby, poor quality bedding, trickling shower and surly, teenage staff. Now, we either do a Premier Inn for overnights or go proper 5.

Two linen covered Laura Ashley sofas. Flimsy construction and the covers ripped within 3 years.

Jones Road Miracle Balm. Glittery, gloopy lard that smells like Germolene.

Special Edition Mini Copper that I'd coveted for months. I barely ever drove it because it was always breaking down. I was on first name terms with the receptionist at the dealership.

Love this thread. I need to be un-marketed to.

So glad someone mentioned Jones Road Miracle Balms. So heavily marketed. So fucking awful. Such a disgusting texture to put on your skin. I would never normally do this but I bought 4 minis and chucked them
away within days. Horrible.

Dyson…hmm. We have a cordless vacuum. Probably 5/6 years old. Use it multiple times daily. Battery is fine. Only a few replacements, but we moan about if often. I think all vacuums are shit (and this thread confirms). Also have an air wrap. Don’t use any of the attachments. Just an expensive hairdryer. Won’t rebuy a Dyson one when the time comes. Also have a GHD duet. Really really don’t like this. It takes fucking ages. You have to section your hair. It’s still a two stage process (with one appliance admittedly) so it doesn’t save any time - in fact the drying bit takes much longer than a hairdryer. Plus customer service is shit/no replaceable parts.

Love the velvetiser. And glad people have discouraged me from the air fryer trend. I almost always cook in bulk to save time and effort (why would you ever cook one portion of ANYTHING if you have a freezer) plus I don’t like too much stuff on the worktop. So thank you!

ISpyNoPlumPie · 15/07/2025 14:48

Oh and eating out almost anywhere is shit nowadays. You could always cook something better and MUCH MUCH cheaper at home. I know that’s sort of the point - not to have to cook and clean up, but it’s so depressing.

That always makes me think of the post where the dog crapped on the floor and the Eufy spread it all around the floor and downstairs 😀😀

Was this me?
mine died an awful death trying to clean up dog poo. It was like that bleeding robot thing that just gets slower and more depressed trying to clean itself up.

I buy the applecare with mine. have only had to use it for accidental damage

I did think that, but at the time I couldn’t justify the cost and the excess I’d have to pay on top. Plus it only lasts for 3 years.

Ortiz tuna. I bought a tin out of curiosity after seeing a thread about it here. Some posters raved about it and reviews on Sainsbury's were glowing.

It's okay for tuna steak in a tin, but I can get similar results from John West tuna in sunflower oil for a quarter of the price. It certainly isn't 4 times better.

Omg I bought my first tin of Ortiz over the weekend and loved every inch of it! So much better than the John west stuff! It will have to be an occasional treat though as I found the receipt for the posh Spanish deli I got it from and it, along with one other item, came to over £9!!

PurpleYarnivore · 15/07/2025 17:41

Shark cordless hoover - just awful it wouldn’t suck anything up so Amazon gave me a replacement which was exactly the same … then got a Dyson cordless and I love it ! Great suction and yes the battery isn’t the best as takes ages to charge but I can do my whole 3 storey house on 1 charge .

love my ninja air fryer ( the round one ) I use it everyday , I can use it as a slow cooker , pressure cooker and bake cakes in it !
lobe my Velvetiser as well it’s lasted way longer than my Nespresso milk frother and I use it every day for hot chocolate or more often frothy milk for lattes .

I love my Karcher for condensation, but now it leaves streaks the same pattern as the rubber when I clean the windows. So I’ve gone back to window cleaner and a cloth

Yep, mine too. Great idea but needs design improvements.

A Thermomix!! Massively expensive bit of kit. Just gathers dust!

I love my Thermomix. Bought in 2014 and used at least 5 days out of 7 since (bar holidays). I used to make ice-cream in an ice-cream maker now just put frozen fruit in Theromix, add cream et voila. I don’t just make ice-cream 5/7😂

I must be the only person in the world that cannot abide Henry hoovers. There is a smell that they all develop really quickly, and it seems to linger everywhere they have been used. I’ve used them a lot over the years, and it seems universal. The company I work for now uses rechargeable backpack vacuums, and it now smells much better.

At home, we have a corded shark, and it has been fine. We also have a Miele cat and dog, but it doesn’t pick up as well as the Shark. The cordless Shark doesn’t pick up as well as the corded, but it is easy to whip out.

We also have a Dualit toaster: brilliant
LG washing machine: great
Bosch tumbler: great

We were given a Henrietta as a present. Whilst it's excellent at picking up what the g tech & Bissell miss, ie deep cleaning, I agree, after a few months it's developed an horrendous stench, reminds me of rodent infestations. Dualit is brilliant, I got mine in a charity shop 28 years ago & still going strong. I've got spare elements just in case.

@ridl14 I can't see how all those disposable nappies going to landfill are better than traditional terry nappies.
I used to put nappies in a bucket of Napisan, rinse, then wash at 40,
As did everyone I knew .
I passed mine on to a friend when DC was about 18 months (toilet training was much earlier in those days), who subsequently passed them on again.
Your £46 would buy disposables for how many years months ?

Yes my grandma used Terry nappies as well and didn't have a washing machine but research doesn't support it unfortunately. £46 for 6 nappies so we'd need at least 20 they say online and lots of frequent washing in a very non eco friendly way. Research comparing the two basically says base your decision on your area's needs, and the UK is currently facing droughts and a lot of contaminated water, sewage sludge being spread on farms... There's no good answer but they are very much not the green solution I was hoping for.

And I've made a lot of changes to reduce single use plastic, I've had a menstrual cup for years instead of tampons just as a comparable example.

I'm looking at what other changes I can make to offset it eg separating recycling well and taking it myself to the our local recycling centre, I've joined some local climate action groups as a volunteer, looking at organising a baby items swap. I think it's important to make decisions based on the evidence at hand

*Oh and now using terry/microfibre cloths instead of wet wipes for wet nappies at home to start with and try to build up from there, they can be washed as normal at 40 so seem like a good option

Equi London supplements. I haven’t seen a difference, despite using them for the past 3 months. I’ve ordered Nutrition Geeks stuff for a fraction of the cost, so fingers crossed they’ll be more effective.

ooh I like Ortiz tuna and do think it is better than any of the other brands. Horses for courses I guess.

Collagen - still look old.

GHD hairdryer - love the straightners but the hairdryer is just average.

Sorry to hear that happened to a child, but neither Aldi nor the product are at fault; it is clearly labelled.

I never said anyone else was at fault. I didn't know pistachios were almost the same as cashews. My sons 19

Dyson air wrap. My thin hair still has flyaways and doesn’t look amazing. I barely use the actual wrap curl attachment. Would have been better off with a $200 straightening drying brush than a $750 Dyson air wrap.

Ba ha ha, and now the bloody thing has stopped working! I didn’t love it, but also I paid $$$ for it! I can’t decide if I’m pissed off at wasting so much money and it only lasted a few years, or happy that I have an excuse to replace it. 🤣

I don’t like wasting money, so that side of me wishes it would just start working again.

Dr Marten boots. Paid £165 and they tore the back of my heals so badly after 20 minutes. Apparently everything has to break them in. Who has time for all that faff and im afraid to wear them.

Brings back memories of hobbling around uni. Absolute torture to break those bad boys in! After that, they were the most comfy things ever.

I hate all vacs, especially the bloody Dyson.. I'm sitting here looking at an as yet unassembled Robovac just bought on Prime day. Not encouraged by this thread, wish I'd seen it first. And the horrible foam mattresses, Emma, Tempur, whatever, hate them too. However, air fryers a great innovation and my newish Hoover washing machine work well.

Splcam, I subscribe to Which? and read an article years ago on face creams and the like, and their opinion was get the absolute cheapest that your skin likes. They pointed out that the claims made by cosmetic companies are at best tenuous and many are gobbledygook and not physically possible.

Since then I have never been taken in by the hype and my skin hasn't suffered from using cheap creams (apart from normal aging!).

Eggsactly! Aldi Q10 day cream, night cream and serum. It's light, sinks in well /doesnt feel caked on and no breakouts or clogged pores....£1.49-£2.99. Done.
And I have sensitive skin.

My MacBook Pro is 2015, one of the early SSD ones. Often used 12 hours daily and never serviced. Best ever investment.

Oh my !!! The first BMW I had spent most of the first year back in the dealership so wouldn't buy again.
I'm hanging on to my 2016 Auto Merc diesel B Class. Low emission, £20 annual road fund licence. economical but fast if you need it and loads of space. £450 for a full set of decent Continental tyres.
Loathe to get rid in spite of its age and the constant bloody Governments coercion tactics.
