Mine is a cordless Dyson vacuum. Cost loads, has a poor battery, doesn’t pick up well, so overrated. Gets rave reviews - why?? My next one will be a Henry ;-) My other is overpriced, average pub/cafe grub when out as a family. Such a waste of time, money and effort. Sorry, I’m usually more upbeat…

Henry quick stick. Family holidays anywhere for the cost now not worth it

Oh, I was going to look at one of those. Obviously no good?

ForCharlieDog · 14/07/2025 18:06

I purchased a GHD cordless straightener for my daughter, definitely not worth the money, doesn’t keep charge for very long !!

My Dyson hairdryer has started to cut out faster like a minute every time I use it. I clean the filter regularly and it hasn’t made any difference. Absolutely infuriating. Before that I had a Parlux which lasted for years and was indestructible. It now takes forever to dry my fair with the Dyson as it stops and starts all the time and I have to wait for it to cool down before in works again. It’s making me angry just thinking about it!

Same ! Had a Parlux, fell for Dyson hype, bought one - it was ok, but nothing special . So when it broke I went back to my trusty, sturdy Parlux.

Breadcat24 · 14/07/2025 18:14

GHD cordless hair straighteners. Absolutely feeble and battery last 20 mins. Also got them confiscated in new zealand as not allowed on air new zealand flights (allowed to pick them up leaving the country but should not have bothered)

Wimin123 · 14/07/2025 18:19

I don’t buy anything now without checking Trustpilot. I think many reviews and comments under the items for sale online are definitely fake. So far this has served me well.

@DryIce I sometimes just use normal hot chocolate powder. It still goes frothy. I haven't tried yet but seen people just chop up a normal chocolate bar and use too!

M&S do chocolate sachets that are much cheaper than Hotel Chocolate but are essentially the same thing.

It's become a bit of a thing that I pick up hot chocolate to try in the Velvetiser as a treat for the family - even though I am the one who uses it the least.

GoldenGail · 14/07/2025 18:26

I adore my velvetiser and use it twice a day at least x

KarenHCC · 14/07/2025 18:27

Don’t touch Roomba iRobots, they work for the first few weeks then constantly refuse to work. We’ve seen every error message ever produced. Customer service unable to resolve the issues, they just play for time, sending you videos/ repeatedly asking you for the same information photos, serial numbers, The months go by and you’ve got a useless lump of plastic gathering dust.
Quicker to clean your floor with a toothbrush!

I’m glad I’ve seen this, I was just about to buy one!

I love mine and working still working well after seven years

I wouldn't buy anything Dyson after the greedy pig moved his factories abroad.

PoppyTonthere · 14/07/2025 18:43

Dualit toaster. Cost a fortune, after 18 months the elements went doolally and it almost set the kitchen on fire. Bloody scary.

Grandma60 · 14/07/2025 18:47

Dyson cordless vacuum - hardly held its charge after first few uses.
Shark cordless vacuum - doesn't pick up smaller bits (eg fluff, cotton thread).

Which Best Buy washer/dryer (can’t remember the brand/have blocked it out) which performed badly from day one. Customer service predictably also shit. It lasted 5 or 6 years before it broke and now we have a Beko, which is great so far.

Every time i've bought a Which "Best Buy", I have been disappointed with it!

Fluffybagel · 14/07/2025 18:58

Kitchenaid toaster and kettle. Both blew up in the space of a few weeks after just over 2 years use! And the guarantee was only 2 years long… typical!

FlipFlopVibe · 14/07/2025 19:17

Our Shark Pet Lift Away is in it’s 8th year and still going well.

Eufy robot is better than I thought at lifting but a bit pointless considering how much you have to lift up off the floor. Could have hoovered myself faster. So I usually do.

Shark Flexstyle. I think I was expecting miracles but it’s just a very piercingly loud hairdryer. My ears ring afterwards. The attachments I do get are handy. Maybe I’m just not skilled enough. Would have hated to have paid full price, I got a refurbished one from Shark themselves so paid less than half price thankfully.

I adore our velvetiser! A bit of luxury at home and so much faster than stood melting in a pan.

I agree with OP on the cost of meals at chain type pub/restaurants. The price they charge for microwaveable meals is extortionate

Bleachedlevis · 14/07/2025 19:39

I agree with all the criticism of expensive vacuum cleaners. I now have a £99 Henry. It is FAB!

fetchacloth · 14/07/2025 19:42

A George Foreman table top grill in the early noughties.
Below average as a grill and an absolute pain to clean. Never again 😒

Roomba!

I'm just thinking about when Markiplier's roomba spread his dog's shit all over the floor.

Agreed. I have bought Shark products instead which are better and cheaper.

cornflakecrunchie · 14/07/2025 19:46

Good thread, thanks.
Particularly interested in what everyone thought of their vacuums. I had the heavy old Dysons. gave up on them after that. Henry would be too heavy for me. Miele don't seem to do decent uprights. Won't buy Hoover after my last one's motor blew up & I had to argue to get it fixed - they finally agreed to supply parts but I'd have to pay for labour. No worries, threw it in the bin & never bought another Hoover item again. Hotpoint were useless. Got an old Panasonic inherited from my mum, ok but again, heavy.Bought a cheap Bissel thing, not bad at all for the money but I wish it was cordless. Splurged on a Shark stick, but it's always blocking up & the roller thing doesn't spin round & it smells like it's going to burst into flames.
All I want is a cordless (lightweight) vacuum that does what it's supposed to. Is it too much to ask? Anyone?

Bowies · 14/07/2025 19:48

I love my Velvetiser, i mostly use it to froth up milk and make matcha lattes but occasional hot chocolate is good too.

I’m glad I’ve seen this, I was just about to buy one!

I love mine and had it for several years without any issues

RaraRachael · 14/07/2025 19:51

My Henry gets on my nerves as the cord gets caught under things and he topples over but hearing reports about cordless ones, I think I'll stick with him.

Same! Smeg shockingly bad quality, I have hob and oven, difficult to use and likes to switch itself off mid cook.
Aunt bought fancy Smeg retro fridge freezer, about 2 grand, gave up the ghost just over two years, unfixable and out of warranty.

I had my retro 50s Smeg for almost 30 years and it never went wrong mechanically until it kept freezing at the back despite regular defrosting & drainage hole poking. I gave it away on Fb, taker said they'd fix it so super duper. However, the plastic parts ie egg boxes, veg box, dairy box inside constantly cracked and luckily I found dupes by another brand who are rumoured to make Smeg. I don't think it's interior contained any original parts, even the glass shelf cracked & I'm careful with stuff. The seals perished quite a lot too. Stylish iconic tat.
Btw any recommendations for pressure washers and carpet washers I should avoid please?

Bowies · 14/07/2025 19:53

I hate Dyson - both vacuum cleaners and air wrap aren’t built to last.

Vacuum cleaners fall apart (have had 2 that went the same way)

Airwrap overheats after 5 mins
