Expensive items bought that disappointed/didn’t live up to the hype?

Mine is a cordless Dyson vacuum. Cost loads, has a poor battery, doesn’t pick up well, so overrated. Gets rave reviews - why?? My next one will be a Henry ;-) My other is overpriced, average pub/cafe grub when out as a family. Such a waste of time, money and effort. Sorry, I’m usually more upbeat…

I quite agree about family eating out ,i understand why they charge so much but i always tend to feel a bit disappointed , that's why we usually eat at an indian restaurant as so much better food and value.

Myusername19 · 12/07/2025 22:22

Henry quick stick. Family holidays anywhere for the cost now not worth it

alexalisten · 12/07/2025 22:28

I love my velvetiser. I agree with cordless vacuums of any brand their awful

Rainbow321 · 12/07/2025 22:29

Whilst not really woo hoo expensive , I went through a stage of buying Molton Brown or L' occitane handwash .

In reality I can't tell the difference between them and cheaper stuff ( looking you Bayliss & Harding )

And much prefer Faith in Nature which is considerably better quality & less expensive .

whackamole666 · 12/07/2025 22:29

I've got both, had a cordless Dyson for about 10 years and a cordless Henry for 6 months. They are both fantastic to use though the Dyson battery life is woeful. I mostly use the Henry and won't replace any more Dyson battery packs .... probably .....

Those Prime drinks.
When they came out, they were going for about £20 a bottle. Now you can get them for a £1 in Iceland. The flavours sound nice but every one I have tried, I have poured down the sink (it probably gave it a good clean 😂). Bloody disgusting.

I have not tried it, but a lot of people have said Dubai chocolate is not worth the hype (and cost).

DM has a cleaning company and does not rate Dyson vacuums at all. She uses Henry for all her contracts.

Roomba!

Have just bought the Gatineau Miracle Eye serum - I still have bags and shadows, no miracles worked at all 😂

StrangledVowels · 12/07/2025 22:34

Shark cordless vaccuum cleaner. They have a great reputation but I didn’t like it at all, it was constantly blocked, broke down. Awful. Got a Dyson to replace it and have had no issues with it.

Ooh i hated faith in nature, It went a weird smell within about 2 weeks of buying it and a very odd colour.

Aww really i wanted one of these 🥺

thebear1 · 12/07/2025 22:37

Bought an apple macbook, hated it and went back to windows.

JoanThursday · 12/07/2025 22:38

I have a Dyson. Dh picked it up in a black Friday sale - must have been over £500 with all the various add ons. I hate it. It's fine for a quick swish around the hard floors but show it the rug in the living room and it throws its hands up in horror,.refusing to do anything.

I've gone back to a 25 yo Henry. New hose and filter and it's good to go.

Whatdoidotoday · 12/07/2025 22:39

Pub food, any type of pub even the posh ones always serve bland and bloody boring food. Pubs are one of the places I would always avoid.

Which Best Buy washer/dryer (can’t remember the brand/have blocked it out) which performed badly from day one. Customer service predictably also shit. It lasted 5 or 6 years before it broke and now we have a Beko, which is great so far.

cadburyegg · 12/07/2025 22:46

I bought a Eufy robot hoover and it worked well for about a year then started playing up. I spent a lot of money buying all the replacement bits for it and it was still crap. I gave up on it after it “hoovered” and looked worse after than before. Not worth it.

CandyCane457 · 12/07/2025 22:47

Another vacuum related one- a cordless Shark for me too. So many of my friends have them, recommended highly, but it’s a bit crap, hair gets stuck in it, it doesn’t pick up well, just overall disappointed.

The skin on my face is quite patchy and I spent about two years buying Temple Spa products online, usually spending around £100-£140 on 2/3/4 products every other month. Stopped during covid as no one was really seeing my skin anyway, and started using Primark serums (the Ordinary dupes!) that are about £3 each, and Lacura (Aldi) moisturiser for £1.50 and my skin has never looked better!

Most expensive toiletries. I’ve just had a big clear out and got rid of almost everything except Lidl stuff.

I’m glad I’ve seen this, I was just about to buy one!

Samsung or LG maybe?

FlamingoQueen · 12/07/2025 22:54

I have the stick Henry and he is great.
Biggest waster GTech vacuums - absolutely useless.
Smeg kettle - looked very worn after less than 12 months.

Redflagsabounded · 12/07/2025 22:57

I've just bought a bog standard Henry and it's brilliant - every office cleaner for the last 30 years can't be wrong!

I've given up on expensive moisturisers - they're all the same.

youreactinglikeafunmum · 12/07/2025 22:57

Biggest waste - a vax stick vacuum

Got my Dyson - shocking battery life but at least it suctions unlike the vax

Mugcake · 12/07/2025 22:58

A tempur mattress and pillows. Had it a few years and it's so uncomfortable! It sunk at the sides but only by 15mm and it has to sink by 20 for tempur to replace it. We'll need to replace it as soon as we're able. Never buying a super expensive mattress again!
