How do people in hot countries continue to populate?

Honestly, even just the thought of having sex in this heat has me running away in sweat drenched disgust. I have under boob sweat, arsehole sweat, my knickers are gross, my hair is wet, I feel disgusting and I am far far too hot! How do hot countries manage? I couldn't think of anything worse than sex right now! Thankfully my OH is in complete agreement 🤣 we can barely tolerate our clothes touching our body never mind sharing heat 🤣
What's the consensus? Does the heat affect your libido? Or are you lot all lying in a pool of combined sweat and continuing as normal?
Shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic.

Exactly this. I've been to many countries on holiday but this heat in the UK is not enjoyable at all

I’ll absolutely agree with this.

I live in an actual desert - it’s currently almost 5pm, it’s still 110°F outside with only 5% humidity…….
But we have air conditioning, tile floors all throughout downstairs, massive ceiling fans etc
Uk homes with all the carpet, curtains and insulation makes a U.K. heatwave unbearable inside.
It’s dangerously hot outside where I am, but I know I can step inside for a reprieve. You don’t have that in the UK

Have you never had sex on holiday?

Some of us deliberately go on holiday to cold places! Or places with aircon.

Pennyforyourthoughtsplease · 12/07/2025 01:19

People from hot countries are usually happier, friendlier and more relaxed so they're also probably more eager to have sex 😆

Oh yes, great, let's make a boiling planet even warmer by using MORE power.

Could be solar powered?

Presumably the air con is the answer to the OP’s question then…

Venalopolos · 12/07/2025 07:25

BurntBroccoli · 12/07/2025 01:47

Could be solar powered?

Yes. We have air con and solar panels. Air con doesn’t cost us a penny to run.

I dislike the heat and my house is way too
hot. But dh is hotter so....

I live in a country which has carpet, curtains and insulation, and I've never heard people moan about the heat the way they do on here - and we generally have more hot days than the UK does.

I’m dreaming of dark, cold nights under the duvet, hot chocolate and buying new winter clothes.
Stuff Summer.

But you're not actually dreaming of being cold, are you?
You're imagining being warm under a duvet, drinking hot drinks, and being wrapped up in warm clothes.
In summer it's like that everywhere! You can be warm without having to shroud yourself in clothes and blankets.

I never understand these "love winter" people because they always talk about cosy warm things!

Or they could work.

Doggy style, nothing too energetic, share the workload, and whatever you do don't touch each other.

@Gardenbumblebee share the workload? The workload is definitely not shared in that position, requires energy and a cardio workout for the man 😂

PapaPerspective · 12/07/2025 11:50

asrl78 · 11/07/2025 10:44

Get solar panels with battery storage, the air con is needed when the solar cells are at peak power generation.

Good idea that

Exactly this. Its so hot and humid outside today, but I can't decide if its hotter inside or out 😭 my DC have a sickness and diarrhea bug and it's been horrendous in this heat. Everything stinks, their fevers aren't getting any reprieve so they're 10x more irritable and upset. Awful

The primary issue for me in the UK is that when it gets hot, there is no escape. I can tolerate high temperatures during the day if I have the opportunity to cool down at night, but that is not possible when my house is 26-30C inside and with no wind outside, opening windows does nothing to get cooler air into the house, so I am stuck with dealing with repeated poor quality sleep.

OutdoorQueen · 12/07/2025 12:59

Another smug poster here with aircon 🤣

We have it in all bedrooms & lounges. Still sleeping with my pjs & a duvet on.

Honestly don’t know why more UK homes don’t have it!

Tink3rbell30 · 12/07/2025 13:08

I was thinking this with the weather in the UK right now. Sweaty flaps, sweaty balls, changing the sweaty bed constantly, the smell of the room after. Gross!

Same. I feel exhausted but just can't sleep properly!

Britain is a relatively cold island on the north Atlantic Ocean. On the rare occasions it's warm through the day I like to enjoy it. There's probably only 5 nights per year where I find it somewhat uncomfortable of an evening to sleep. In my life the heat has only stopped me sleeping on one occasion. I'd rather put the money towards a new. Kitchen.

Er, it's the other way round. Britain is a relatively warm island etc, etc.

If you want the proof, follow the latitude around the globe from London and see where else is our parallel friend ...

If it weren't for the gulf stream, we'd be a hell of a lot colder. And if we manage to kill the gulf stream, heatwaves will be the least of our worries.

PapaPerspective · 12/07/2025 17:13

@SerendipityJane I said Britain. Not London. Britain is generally considered to be a cool or temperate island, not a hot one. Its climate is classified as temperate maritime, experiences mild summers and cool winters. Britain has an average annual temperature of just 9.2°C, much lower than most of Western Europe and well below the global average of 14.96.

I acknowledge London shares its latitude with many cities that experience much colder climates. But that doesn't make it a warm place. New York City is much farther south (about 40.7° N), yet often has colder winters than London due to its continental climate.

If you had heating and aircon but lived anywhere in Britain, what would you use more often?

An incredible, factually incorrect statement to suggest this is a warm island at an average of 9.2°C.

“The Atlantic circulation is really important for Britain because it transports a lot of heat ultimately from the tropics up towards the UK,” says David Thornalley, Professor of Ocean and Climate Science at UCL. “And if you have major changes in ocean circulation, you are clearly going to be interrupting that transport of ocean heat, which will have an effect on weather systems.”

I'll see if I can find a separate study for London.

What would Britain be like if the Gulf Stream changed course?

UCL researchers are studying whether the famous warm water current could be waning and what this might mean for our weather and people.

What you have said doesn't address my points about this being a cold island. You have just given some good factual evidence of how it could be colder though.

I understand what you are saying but if it goes above 20 I like the aircon on. I’ve always liked a cold bedroom so I can get cosy in the bed, I still like a duvet on me abroad 🤣

I love the sun / heat but I just like a cold room too
