How do people in hot countries continue to populate?

Honestly, even just the thought of having sex in this heat has me running away in sweat drenched disgust. I have under boob sweat, arsehole sweat, my knickers are gross, my hair is wet, I feel disgusting and I am far far too hot! How do hot countries manage? I couldn't think of anything worse than sex right now! Thankfully my OH is in complete agreement 🤣 we can barely tolerate our clothes touching our body never mind sharing heat 🤣
What's the consensus? Does the heat affect your libido? Or are you lot all lying in a pool of combined sweat and continuing as normal?
Shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic.

Hadn’t thought of that, completely see the problem. Sister has large SW windows too, curtains shut in her house currently. My cool N facing room is proving useful!

We have a quick swim before bed, and sleep under the stars on the roof terrace.

Oh yes, great, let's make a boiling planet even warmer by using MORE power.

Get solar panels with battery storage, the air con is needed when the solar cells are at peak power generation.

Architecture/shade provision and lifestyle, immersing self in cold water at strategic points, and knowing which doors and windows to open and when.

It's now that security grilles over front doors (very common in US) make sense.

The UK most definitely needs to invest in air conditioning!

No it doesn't. We get temperatures above 30°C for what 2 weeks a year on average. Hence why aicon is not standard in homes in the UK.

This is the response I was looking for 🤣

Posting for updates 😇

GreenGully · 11/07/2025 11:31

AC. Wouldn't be without it.

NaeRolls · 11/07/2025 11:45

We do it late at night and in positions that require the least physical contact 😂

Central Scotland here and yes it is hot today. Took dog out for 10 mins this morning and was desperately trying to stay in the shade as I was burning even for the 10 mins I was out at 9am.

Livingroom is 25 but thankfully running the air con unit I bought from Argos a few years ago which is taken it down to a comfortable 19-20.

I used to live with an Australian who was from Melbourne. He said UK heat is different to Melbourne heat. It is much 'hotter' in the UK at lower temps than Melbourne. He thought it might be due to our humidity and our island being surrounded by water. Anyway just thought that was an interesting fact.

We're staying in today and the dog won't be going out again until tonight when it begins to cool with darkness. (He can have a quick pee in the garden but that's it). Livingroom is east facing (currently in the sun) and I usually enjoy the morning sun. Today however I am counting down the minutes till it goes round the back and we get some shade.

I bought 2 portable air con units about 4 years ago when we started to have this really warm weather in the summer. I know it's only about 20 days per year but it's really unpleasant and the dog can't cope either.

For those without air con wet a dishtowel and put it on your bare legs or stomach. I promise you will cool down immediately. Trick learned when I was stuck in a hotel in London during a heatwave with a room above the kitchens and was desperate.

Do it under a cool shower

KnittyNell · 11/07/2025 12:12

I’m dreaming of dark, cold nights under the duvet, hot chocolate and buying new winter clothes.
Stuff Summer.

It was one of the things we fell in love with about the house before we bought it. SW facing huge French doors in the main living area. Now we're seeing the issue! Curtains are always closed 🥴

True. But it's getting hotter every year. And we don't even have a real winter anymore. We were in a hot tub on Xmas day and walking about in shorts and cardigans.
I have 2 small DC and trying to keep them cool is proving a nightmare. My 3 month old just wants to cling to me and BF all day so we're making each other hotter. Air con would be amazing right now!
And my neighbour just had an angina attack triggered by overheating. Not great.

I was in Glasgow in 2022 when the temps were over 33° and it was unbelievable! I had packed for the rain too 😅
I'm definitely going to invest in some air con, my kids are struggling with this heat it's too much

I live in Southern Europe. The outdoor UK heatwave is lovely and pleasant, inside the house was bad. 30 degrees in a Uk home can be worse than when it’s in the 40’s in my own home which doesn’t have any air conditioning.
I think it’s the carpeted floors, wallpaper, curtains etc, they trap the heat.

Exactly this. I've been to many countries on holiday but this heat in the UK is not enjoyable at all

Be bold and ask Brazilians how they handle hot days—they're experts at it! They know all about using fans, air conditioning, drinking cold water, wearing lighter clothes, keeping windows open, and so many other tricks to make life more comfortable.
I've got a Brazilian acquaintance who says it's always amusing to watch us complaining and struggling.
Of course, it's not just Brazilians—ask anyone living in a hot country. The natives of these regions have been dealing with heat for centuries and can teach us a lot. Besides, we have the internet and even AI apps to provide answers and survival tips.

sweetpickle2 · 12/07/2025 00:07

I quite like a heatwave shag! We’re sweaty anyway, so may as well lean in. The heat makes me hornier though, I think there’s a scientific reason but I’ve never looked it up.

Annoyeddd · 12/07/2025 00:33

Have a heat pump fitted. Cheap heat in winter, flick the switch and it turns into air con in the summer.
Have heard that there are rules about air con units need planning permission for air con but not heat pumps but then who will know when you have flicked that switch.

MsNevermore · 12/07/2025 00:56

We have air conditioning 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

My DH runs hot. I’m the opposite: I’m always cold.
I tell him all the time the chances of me getting my kit off would be much higher if our bedroom A/C wasn’t set to the fucking Arctic circle 🫠🫠🫠🫠
