How do people in hot countries continue to populate?

Honestly, even just the thought of having sex in this heat has me running away in sweat drenched disgust. I have under boob sweat, arsehole sweat, my knickers are gross, my hair is wet, I feel disgusting and I am far far too hot! How do hot countries manage? I couldn't think of anything worse than sex right now! Thankfully my OH is in complete agreement 🤣 we can barely tolerate our clothes touching our body never mind sharing heat 🤣
What's the consensus? Does the heat affect your libido? Or are you lot all lying in a pool of combined sweat and continuing as normal?
Shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic.

Have you never had sex on holiday?

IAmNeverThePerson · 10/07/2025 22:45

DH went to put his hand on my back last night. I suggested that if so much as finger touched me I’d snap it off at the neck. Not loving heatwaves and menopause.

I always run hot. I rarely wear a jumper in winter.

This is me! So glad I'm not alone

Have you never had sex on holiday?

I think on my honeymoon in my 20s yeah, but never since. Me and OH clearly don't cope well with the heat! Plus we've always had DC in the hotel rooms with us so sex is a no go

I live in Florida, and we often hit 34° (93° f +) in the summer. We have air conditioning everywhere. Central AC in homes and businesses. If someone’s AC goes out, it’s considered pretty urgent to get repaired, although for people who have swimming pools, it helps, too. I am very close to the Gulf and amazed to see tourists come to our beaches in July and August, when natives avoid going outside.

Doggy style, nothing too energetic, share the workload, and whatever you do don't touch each other.

Diagram please

Same for me. Ours finally gave up the ghost after 20 years. The AC contractor offered to loan us portable air conditioners until they could get in to install the new one. So we had one running in the bedroom and one running in the family room. I just don't go outside in the summer if I can help it. I certainly don't go to the beach. That's what fall and spring are for.

I'm currently having a hot bath with the AC running at 70 F.

Same. And both DC were conceived whilst we were living on the equator with no AC. It was just a bit sweaty…

SheSpeaks · 11/07/2025 00:04

I feel like I’m in a microclimate. It’s 14 degrees, I have my pyjamas on, I’ll be under the duvet in a few minutes.

fourelementary · 11/07/2025 00:04

I often joke hubby is solar powered as he can’t get enough in the summer. We have nice cool showers before bed, then get dirty right after!

My Indian friends tell me they find the heatwaves in Britain difficult due to the lack of AC and the insulation in the houses trapping the heat. I suppose they’re better kitted out for all nighters in a heatwave in warmer climates otherwise I think foreign holidays wouldn’t be popular😂

Those Indians are in the minority out of 1.4 billion people. A lot of poor people in India have kids and they don't have AC.

Also, even two decades ago, not every middle class house had ACs, plus there were frequent power cuts.
I have even seen homeless people, li ing openly by the road sides, under the bridge in extreme heat, holding a very young baby.

To answer ops question, people get used to of the weather when that's all they have known all their lives. Infact, warmer countries have a lot of kids.

See the UK is hitting 30°s recently but our buildings are so well insulated for the cold weather and zero AC. Its like a horrendous sweat box every day.

Oh yes, great, let's make a boiling planet even warmer by using MORE power.

There is always one

@MadCattery the aircon in our villa went out one day, we had to sit in the car to cool down and work out where the best place for an air conditioned day out would be. Brutally hot without it there

We have aircon and solar panels too, I bet I use less non renewable power than you!

InWalksBarberalla · 11/07/2025 04:07

I think you just adjust to the temperature. I went to the UK years ago and was surprised to see people sunbathing in parks etc on what felt like a pretty average day to me - only to discover in the papers it was a heatwave!!
Then recently went to Vietnam and it was the other way around - I was struggling in the heat and locals were wearing jeans and hoodies.

Muffinmam · 11/07/2025 04:41

British homes are not built for hot weather - they are built to keep the heat in.

I’m in Australia, most homes are built with double brick. We have a reverse cycle air-conditioning unit downstairs and upstairs is ducted reverse cycle air-conditioning. We also have ceiling fans in every room and blinds help to keep the sun out.

When I lived in a house that wasn’t air-conditioned I bought a portable refrigerative air-conditioner and ducted it to the window. It was about $1,200.

I also bought a large ice pack/blanket from the pet store that you put in the freezer and then under your pet bedding to keep them cool in the summer. I put this under my pillow and it cooled me down so I could sleep.

I don’t understand every year when it’s summer in the UK people complain on mumsnet about the heat - but do nothing about it.

You could get a box fan which you put in your window to remove the hot air. You could install a wall mounted refrigerative air-conditioner in one room of your house so you can sleep. You could even do what I did and get a pet ice blanket and a portable air-conditioner. The pet ice blanket really worked. It’s probably the cheapest thing I bought to keep me cool.

Fans also really work but you need to ensure you create a draft by venting the hot air out of a window with one fan and having another fan positioned somewhere else in the room (some distance from the window) to create the draft.

Playdoh45 · 11/07/2025 04:50

We have refrigerated aircon!
I also had my son in the Aussie summer , it was a heat wave the week he was born. Average 42 degrees!

Dustyblue · 11/07/2025 04:55

Another Australian here.

Very hot weather (and I mean high 30's and beyond) tends to be followed by a break in the weather cycle. So, air flow through the house is important. When the temperature drops you open front & back doors to flush the heat out.

Air con air con air con.

Meanwhile it's winter here. I'm in the southernmost part of Australia's mainland & wearing 3 layers, listening to howling wind and contemplating a wood fire. 😆

Can't help you on the sex issue. Cold shower or bath first?

Ownyourchoices · 11/07/2025 04:56

Samas · 10/07/2025 21:47

You’re basing it on your experience of living in a country in which homes are generally not set up to deal with extreme heat.

My dsis lives in Australia and her home has full air con etc. it’s really lovely and cool no matter how hot it is outside.

An Australian here - and yep, we have airconditioning and some states, its a model that switches to warming. Nothing stopping people in the UK doing the same.

Morningsleepin · 11/07/2025 05:05

What a shame that the old forms of architecture are being lost and replaced with air conditioning. In Mexico we used to have Adobe houses that were warm in winter and cool in the summer, while on the coast you could find houses built of bamboo or reeds that would let the air waft through them

itsgettingweird · 11/07/2025 05:06

I had marble floor. Ceiling fans. Bedding designed for heat.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 11/07/2025 05:06

Our system also provides heat. It's all electric operated by one thermostat. In Florida it's not all that uncommon in the winter to run both heat and air conditioning in the same day. Cold mornings can sometimes turn into uncomfortably warm afternoons, especially when different weather fronts are moving through.

SamiSnail · 11/07/2025 05:14

The UK is very backward in many respects. Most first world countries have air conditioning throughout the house. Split cycle - so it is heating in winter, and cooling in summer. Their hospitals are fully air conditioned and their public transport.
