How do people in hot countries continue to populate?

Honestly, even just the thought of having sex in this heat has me running away in sweat drenched disgust. I have under boob sweat, arsehole sweat, my knickers are gross, my hair is wet, I feel disgusting and I am far far too hot! How do hot countries manage? I couldn't think of anything worse than sex right now! Thankfully my OH is in complete agreement 🤣 we can barely tolerate our clothes touching our body never mind sharing heat 🤣
What's the consensus? Does the heat affect your libido? Or are you lot all lying in a pool of combined sweat and continuing as normal?
Shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic.

There should be more...

agreed, terrible for the planet. Added to which, there's maybe 20 days a year you'd actually use aircon in the UK. What a nonsense.

notnorman · 11/07/2025 09:10

Our air con is an air source pump and provides warm as well as cold air. I thought they were all like this? Super efficient

Elektra1 · 11/07/2025 09:10

They have air conditioning

HerbertPootle · 11/07/2025 09:13

We have air conditioning in the main bedroom (loft conversion) our house is so well insulated it’s boiling up there (30s) without it. We also have solar panels / Tesla battery so not using tons of electricity to power it.

FlexiSadie · 11/07/2025 09:16

Meh. No amount of heat is going to stop me shagging. If I feel a bit grubby beforehand l'll jump in the shower beforehand.

SerendipityJane · 11/07/2025 09:19

dontcomeatme · 10/07/2025 21:47

The UK most definitely needs to invest in air conditioning!

Not with all the electricity going into EVs ....

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 11/07/2025 09:22

Maybe people in hot countries aren't as fat as us in the UK so don't sweat quite as much....

Zimunya · 11/07/2025 09:29

I've lived in loads of hot countries, sometimes with air conditioning, but mostly without it, and I second what many posters have said - English homes (I have only lived in England, so can't comment on Scotland, Wales, Ireland or Northern Ireland) are built to hold in heat. Great for winter, awful for summer. As others have also said, tiled floors and windows placed to catch a breeze are helpful. I like fans, although I appreciate they're not for everyone.

@dontcomeatme - your opening post did make me laugh. I would definitely prefer to do the deed when it's warm and comfortable to be naked, rather then shivering and trying to keep the duvet over me!

MrsEverest · 11/07/2025 09:29

You also get used to heat.

there is someone on another thread asking if she should cancel all activity in case it’s mid to high 20s. I laughed.

HonestOpalHelper · 11/07/2025 09:36

I'm sat here in the UK, really appreciating Mr. Willis Carriers 1902 invention of air conditioning having just purchased a portable one from B&q for £250, game changer!!

Sharptonguedwoman · 11/07/2025 07:53

If you're at home, shut the curtains and open the windows. If you have to commute, that's trickier and all sympathy. Find the cool side of your house if there is one. Back of my house faces north so we're fine, really. I quite like a bit of sun and it'll be raining soon enough. Are you in a flat, OP? They can be like ovens.

No we just moved into our new home, loads of windows and huge glass doors. It's like a greenhouse 🥴 beautiful views, but my oh my! The heat is unbearable

Sounds like you're overweight if you have all these sweating issues.

Thank you for that 👍

See the UK is hitting 30°s recently but our buildings are so well insulated for the cold weather and zero AC. Its like a horrendous sweat box every day.

That really doesn't make sense. Insulation is insulation. It doesn't matter if hot or cold.

You're probably doing all the wrong things. When it's hot, doors and windows closed in the morning, sun blocked out with curtains/blinds. Come night, once sun is down, open doors and windows to get a breeze in the house and cool it down. Shut everything up before it heats up the next day and trap the cool inside.

Ceiling fans are amazing up to low 30s. That's all you really need. 34 and over outside and aircon is good. I usually set my aircon to come on around 1pm so my long haired dogs are comfortable. We get full western sun and, when I put a mercury thermometer out the front one day it maxed out at 50°C, despite daily reported temp being much lower.

My place is nicely insulated and I'm usually about 10°C different to external temps once the sun is up. My mum hates everything being shut up and tries to open the sunblock curtains but it's close up or boil.

Anything under 25°C inside I'm under a blanket. Once inside hits 30s then it's aircon time.

Internal temps in winter can get down to about 17 overnight (outside temps 8 or 9 or lower) but warm up with doors opened and the afternoon sun.

Grainsandgains · 11/07/2025 10:02

You’re basing it on your experience of living in a country in which homes are generally not set up to deal with extreme heat.

Or cold, or humidity... 🙈

Grainsandgains · 11/07/2025 10:04

People need to stop saying UK heathwave when they mean South of UK heathwave 😂 Hasn't hit me 30 where I am during any of the heatwaves yet. 26c max so far

spoonbillstretford · 11/07/2025 10:05

People in sub saharan Africa and quite sweaty, humid parts of Asia have the highest birth rate. I know there is a lot more to it than heat, but it's not stopping them.

crunchybiscuitandtea · 11/07/2025 10:05

Lived in Greece and Cyprus for many years.

All the floors are tiled so stay cool, small windows with shutters, at least one room with Air Con, you get used to doing physical stuff early morning or evening, you learn the art of shade hopping when out and about, and its dry heat which is much easier to deal with.

Give me a Cyprus 40+ rather than the humid Scottish 22 any day

CraigElwell · 11/07/2025 10:07

I still have my electric blanket on for bed for an hour😅

DrJump · 11/07/2025 10:10

I live in Australia. We do not have A/C. We live In a poorly insulated, I'll positioned house.

Morning sex. Before everything heats up. Or late evening sex after the sun is down and you've had a sparkling drink in the evening breeze.

Gardenbumblebee · 10/07/2025 22:09

Doggy style, nothing too energetic, share the workload, and whatever you do don't touch each other.

You know what? Imma try this out 😅😅😅

UrbanFan · 11/07/2025 10:16

Try not limiting sex to the bedroom. LIven it up a bit. Sunshine makes people horny in my experience.

HellonHeels · 11/07/2025 10:19

SheSpeaks · 11/07/2025 00:04

I feel like I’m in a microclimate. It’s 14 degrees, I have my pyjamas on, I’ll be under the duvet in a few minutes.

Can I please move in with you?

Tartantotty · 11/07/2025 08:46

Sounds like you're overweight if you have all these sweating issues.

Ive been both slim and fit and fat and unfit in my time. Still hated the heat and got unpleasantly sweaty either way.
