How do people in hot countries continue to populate?

Honestly, even just the thought of having sex in this heat has me running away in sweat drenched disgust. I have under boob sweat, arsehole sweat, my knickers are gross, my hair is wet, I feel disgusting and I am far far too hot! How do hot countries manage? I couldn't think of anything worse than sex right now! Thankfully my OH is in complete agreement 🤣 we can barely tolerate our clothes touching our body never mind sharing heat 🤣
What's the consensus? Does the heat affect your libido? Or are you lot all lying in a pool of combined sweat and continuing as normal?

An Australian here - and yep, we have airconditioning and some states, its a model that switches to warming. Nothing stopping people in the UK doing the same.

Careful. Next you'll be suggesting window screens to keep the bugs out. 🤣

There should be more...

Air con!

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 11/07/2025 06:47

It's what you're used to, as well.

I don't find 30 particularly hot. 40 is hot, but I'd just slow down a bit and stay out of direct sun, I wouldn't be banging on about sweaty arseholes.

You probably tolerate cold a lot better than I do.

Oh yes, great, let's make a boiling planet even warmer by using MORE power.

🙄

This is absolutely right. Not sure why some posters are making snarky comments?! Air con is very bad for climate change

They are not wrong though.
I agree that we need AC but it is concerning. The thing that cools us down is ultimately making heatwaves worse. 😯

We have air con in the bedroom and living room (in uk) - it didn’t cost a fortune (3k) and can also heat which was v useful at new year when our central heating pump broke and we had to wait 2 days for a plumber. Honestly don’t know why it’s not more popular (and recently an estate agent calculated it had added 5-10k on the value or our house.

3k is alot to most of us.

UK houses are mostly built to keep heat in.

it’s not a massive surprise they don’t cope well in the heat.

This is at the heart of our discomfort.

Dogaredabomb · 11/07/2025 07:23

I have ceiling fans (UK), I don't know why everyone doesn't. It's not much more expensive than fitting a ceiling light. I have some portable air cons which I haven't needed since leaving London.

Have sex in the shower?

LimitedBrightSpots · 11/07/2025 07:36

The heat with AC and swimming pools is entirely different. If you can keep cool for much of the day, you can put up with a few hours in temperatures which would otherwise be uncomfortable.

I felt heatwaves a lot less when I worked in an airconned office for much of the day. My flat was a little uncomfortable but I slept better at night even so, then now when there is no chance to cool down.

If you're at home, shut the curtains and open the windows. If you have to commute, that's trickier and all sympathy. Find the cool side of your house if there is one. Back of my house faces north so we're fine, really. I quite like a bit of sun and it'll be raining soon enough. Are you in a flat, OP? They can be like ovens.

Not a fan of air con so I guess there are people like me. Mostly I find it set far too cold and it's very noisy (at least in hotels).

I quite like it. Much better than shivering under the duvet whilst doing it in the winter!
Even better if it's on holiday after some lunchtime wine.

Absolutely, a bit of sunshine makes you horny 🍆🌞🌝

SkiAndTravelTheWorldWithMyDog · 11/07/2025 08:14

Shower before and shower after.

Bikergran · 11/07/2025 08:16

Cheaper than air-con, we have a ceiling fan above the bed and it's fabulous in hot sticky weather.

isthismylifenow · 11/07/2025 08:20

We do it in the pool.

Obvs we have our own pool, not a public one where we would get arrested for indecent exposure.

😂

The UK is very backward in many respects. Most first world countries have air conditioning throughout the house. Split cycle - so it is heating in winter, and cooling in summer. Their hospitals are fully air conditioned and their public transport.

I love that we think everyone in hot countries have air-conditioning. Developing countries most people don't (Asia Africa for example)
My parents lived in rural Spain for 20 years, all the expats had air-conditioning, majority of normal Spaniards didn't. They do sensible things like open doors and windows on the cool parts of the day. Close windows and shutters or curtains when the sun is high, drink plenty, long lunch breaks, sty inside in the heat of the day.

Yes this. I do not have air conditioning in my house. Electricity prices are scary high, so to run one on the grid all day is shockingly expensive anyway.

Our houses are tiled though, IF anyone has carpets they would usually only ever be in a bedroom.

We have ceiling fans. These help a lot so I am not sure why more people don't install these in UK houses.

CraigElwell · 11/07/2025 08:45

its 19C in my house and I do not have AC what is this heat you are talking about? I do live up North

Tartantotty · 11/07/2025 08:46

Sounds like you're overweight if you have all these sweating issues.

Borracha · 11/07/2025 09:03

I live in the Middle East and it can hit 50 in the summer. We have AC on all year round, our home has high ceilings and is made of concrete.
