To ask what little freebies you get in life?

So not much in life is free…we all know that.
im moving house soon and i was on the hunt for boxes so i asked in work. The waste management guys told me they would keep some boxes to the side for me. When I went down he had a stack for me already flattened so I could get them in my car and he gave me a big roll of tape to use also. I was so happy, I feel like I’m haemorrhaging money at the moment so even though it was something small it made such a difference for me.
we also have free tea/coffee/milk/water in work! Love that too!
whats your freebie? ☺️

I work in a shop and sometimes rarely I get a good bargain

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 10/07/2025 13:25

A Christmas tree! There was an office move and it was going to be chucked. A decent homebase 7ft individual branches full on tree! It lasted me over 10 years, but it was a faff to put up, so we eventually got one quicker to put up and pre lit. Gave the homebase one away on facebook, so it's still out there going strong!

DragonTrainor · 10/07/2025 13:25

Our office has fruit on Fridays and I always take an apple and banana home for the kids. I can afford fruit but it feels so good to get it for free!

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 10/07/2025 13:27

Bamboo socks. I signed up for a free pair from BAM maybe 8 or 9 years ago and have received 3-5 pairs a year since. Its slightly bizarre but I do enjoy receiving the even if someone else will be getting them as I don't wear them 😂

Coffeeishot · 10/07/2025 13:28

Someone dh i know gets good antibacterial wipes from work that may occasionally turn up in my kitchen 😀

Oreosareawful · 10/07/2025 13:38

I do a lot of volunteering, and we get given a little bag for the day with tea bags, milk cartons and coffee sachets with a flask.
I don't drink coffee, so the sachets go home for my husband. It's a more expensive brand than we usually buy, so husband is extra happy.

OMG me too! It's such a nice treat to get their lovely socks in the post

I get a smoothie every week in the gym cafe if I go 4 times a week. It brings me joy.

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/07/2025 13:44

In the days when Midland Bank was becoming HSBC I got a filing cabinet as a result of a branch rebranding.

Our workplace used to have a “dinnertime matters” bay where there were loads of some of the products we make. You could help yourself from this stand to take home and cook for your dinner. That’s stopped for a while as we rarely go into the office, but it was still lovely.

Last year when we launched a new product range, and changed the jar size on another product range, we were all authorised to buy 1 of each product from each of Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons online. Bear in mind the value of the jar size range was around £40, the value of the new range around the same, that was a huge amount of products for free for us! We were encouraged to give to family/friends/food bank if there was anything we wouldn’t use to avoid waste.

The business also regularly donates product to food banks, and has raised and donated money to them as well. Makes me very proud to work for a company that genuinely cares - you always get cynical at big companies that do this but knowing the actual people involved etc I know these were all done to do good, not to raise the profile of the brands.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 10/07/2025 13:46

Eggs from my lovely chooks (I know they're not strictly free because I buy food etc but still).
One of my chooks went missing recently and when I found her hiding in the barn a few days later she was sitting on eggs, so now I have 12 free baby chooks!

hairyunicorn · 10/07/2025 13:46

A friend is a delivery driver for a bakery. He gives us leftover sourdough and other fancy breads. I love it

Also, work gives us £12 per day to spend on Deliveroo for lunch, it's not free as we are taxed on it, but lunch for under £2 is amazing and I think of it as a freebie 😆

Davros · 10/07/2025 13:51

That must be the modern equivalent of Luncheon Vouchers. I took a friend’s whole stack off them once playing poker at lunchtime. They were free!

XenoBitch · 10/07/2025 13:55

I walked past a house that had little spider plants for free on their garden wall. I took one and it is doing really well. It has loads of it's own babies now so I will pay them forward too.

I am a regular in my local Costa, and I often get free cake just before closing.

Free fruit friday! They used to do that everywhere pre pandemic

Purplebunnie · 10/07/2025 14:00

I get free cross stitch patterns from various places. Will have to live to 4360 years old to do them all 😂Some are a bit rubbish but one is absolutely gorgeous and I need to do it soon but I'm such a procrastinator

Edited so nothing really useful

ShallIstart · 10/07/2025 14:01

We got a really fancy expensive dining table, chairs and sideboard off a friend of a friend for free.
Also, little things like was scabbling for my card to work as the beeper thing wasnt working in the petrol station and the man behind me paid for me and my sons sweets, and his own petrol in cash. I think he didnt want to wait. I try and pay those types of things forward though and paid for a young girls sweets in the corner shop a few days later when she didnt have enough.

Chicheguevara · 10/07/2025 14:01

We get free fruit, free breakfasts (cereal) and a weekly delivery of stuff to toast. Tea, coffee, fruit tea, hot chocolate etc. Also filter water machines on each floor. It’s nice.

MoominUnderWater · 10/07/2025 14:01

I’m in the Amazon vine program so get to order quite a bit of free stuff in exchange for reviews.

i also do some part time modelling for a clothing brand and kept to keep any of the trousers I model (as we don’t wear knickers under the trousers). Have to give the tops back though sadly. But they do give me some other freebies of tops and jackets as well.

Ritzitup · 10/07/2025 14:02

My husband gets a free coffee in waitrose at the weekend.

I got a free plum and apple from Riverford today. Nearly got a free cookbook too but they wanted me to provisionally sign up.

Got a free cookbook from Pizza Express last year which is lovely - hardcover and everything!

My mum buys a magazine bundle every month and gives me the ones I like.

I don't like tea and coffee but every workplace I've been in provides it for free. I always wished they would think about non tea/coffee drinkers too!

ImWearingPantaloons · 10/07/2025 14:04

We get freebies of items which aren’t perfect enough to sell to the public (like bunches of flowers) or food that won’t be sold by its use by.

Mossstitch · 10/07/2025 14:11

Free knitting patterns on the Internet, I give all my knitting away and often a baby garment only costs a couple of pounds to make but if I had to pay £3 for a pattern I wouldn't be able to do so many.

Free parking at the hospital where I volunteer.

Diydanny · 10/07/2025 14:15

Moving to London and getting a Freedom Pass (we’re over 70).

Free transport on buses, trains and tube. Only had free bus pass up north. It delights me every time I use it.
