To ask what little freebies you get in life?

So not much in life is free…we all know that.
im moving house soon and i was on the hunt for boxes so i asked in work. The waste management guys told me they would keep some boxes to the side for me. When I went down he had a stack for me already flattened so I could get them in my car and he gave me a big roll of tape to use also. I was so happy, I feel like I’m haemorrhaging money at the moment so even though it was something small it made such a difference for me.
we also have free tea/coffee/milk/water in work! Love that too!
whats your freebie? ☺️

I live in central London and there are frequently promo stalls outside my local station giving away snacks and drinks - yoghurt, bottled drinks, cereal bars, crisps.

Serencwtch · 10/07/2025 14:40

I work in a supermarket & get a lot of free food if it's not sold. We get really generous discounts too.
Free fruit, pastries & coffee at work too.

DH & I are also farmers - mainly sheep but we have 2 pet jersey cows & 4 goats so fresh milk is never an issue (although not sure that counts as free 😂)

Recently

Free cinema tickets to odd type of films

Free money when switching banks & the last one also included a free night in a hotel as part of their deal

Free National Trust days out if you buy certain news papers offer ongoing. We have already used some of the vouchers for days out
Huge money saver.

Free food when I have been volunteering

givemushypeasachance · 10/07/2025 15:04

Where I live we get a "free birthday bus pass" - you can apply to get a card to use for free bus travel in your birthday month. I don't use buses very much as I cycle to work and I have a car, but I make a point of doing a few trips as it's free!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 10/07/2025 15:09

Books. I'm frequently sent books by authors who are with the same publisher as me so I can give a cover quote. Lots and lots of books. Plus many of my friends who are authors send me their books when they come out.
My house is 90% paperback.

Pret a Manger are allowed to give away a certain number of free coffees in a day. I have three times had this honour bestowed upon me. I must look like someone who really needs a coffee 🤣

ConnieHeart · 10/07/2025 15:42

Anything I spend on food & drink for my job gets reimbursed (up to around £10 per day) so I can usually get a sandwich & a nice coffee

Me too! My birthday is in a few days. I haven't actually used my pass yet but fully intend to...

Definitelynotme2022 · 10/07/2025 15:48

Probably moving soon, so free boxes etc from work. Also I can take in some rubbish instead of a tip run. Really useful.

Oh is a postie, and we get parking at the mail centre near the airport for £2 a day. Not free, but an absolute bargain!

Bamboo socks. I signed up for a free pair from BAM maybe 8 or 9 years ago and have received 3-5 pairs a year since. Its slightly bizarre but I do enjoy receiving the even if someone else will be getting them as I don't wear them 😂

Are you my husband?! He keeps getting free pairs too and we are drowning in them !

I used to get sent these. But now no longer 😞

A few times I have been in Waitrose near closing time and have been invited to help myself to avocados or a bunch of flowers.
The other week I was in Ikea and a staff member gave me a bag of mini cinnamon rolls on the way out (near expiry date).
DP and I, and any friends we want to take , get on the guest list for his brother's gigs (fairly well-known band) plus drinks at the after-party.
Free or heavily discounted food and drinks at the very posh restaurant where DD works.
Free last-minute theatre and concert tickets from being on various mailing lists.
So far this year I have had three free shelving units, two tables, a wicker hamper and four outdoor chairs for free from neighbours; some I am using, some I have passed on to my DC.

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 10/07/2025 15:56

Two olive trees that somebody on the local FB group were giving away. They were looking a bit miserable but are now thriving in the garden

I do try to give things away for free if they are good quality but no longer needed

BeachPossum · 10/07/2025 15:57

I get a few freebies through work. The main one is free private health insurance and a free gym membership. We also get a fruit box delivered every day, free tea and coffee, and on the last Friday of every month there is drinks and pizza in a boardroom.

DoAWheelie · 10/07/2025 15:57

My mother gets me a subscription to PlayStation Plus each year for Xmas. The last couple of years, every time I come close to buying a game, it turns up for free the next month as part of the subscription.

I've stopped buying anything now as I can keep playing everything I want without spending.

Doje · 10/07/2025 15:58

We have a weekly bake sale at our school which I volunteer for. My co-volunteer bakes and she always 'insists' I do a taste test every week.

Best part of my week.

Oh this happened to me a few weeks ago too! Totally made my day.

DeedlessIndeed · 10/07/2025 15:59

Plants! Come from a family of gardeners so everyone has cuttings, split herbaceous perennials or extra seedlings going spare. Garden centre plants are so expensive and often poor quality in comparison!

NestaArcheron · 10/07/2025 16:01

I have a social media page dedicated to books and reading with an ok following, and I get free books sent by publishers to review and also advanced copies of unreleased ones, and it makes my entire day every single time

Eggs from my lovely chooks (I know they're not strictly free because I buy food etc but still).
One of my chooks went missing recently and when I found her hiding in the barn a few days later she was sitting on eggs, so now I have 12 free baby chooks!

Awwwww, congratulations on your grandchooks 😁♥️

Mumofsoontobe3 · 10/07/2025 16:04

I have 2 - one Muslim family always always bring my kids treats/food. My oldest child is autistic and funny with foods but they make a special dish just for him. (He told them it smelled nice once, they've made the same dish the same way probably 20 times and he loves it)
I also have an elderly neighbour who grows fruit in his greenhouse. He left a punnet of strawberries on my doorstep yesterday for my children.

You would think the kids were hungry - they're not! I just have really lovely neighbours. I'm extremely fortunate to be surrounded by such lovely people.

MsNevermore · 10/07/2025 16:05

We also used to get free coffee etc at my old workplace - we had a really fancy, bean-to-cup machine so it was proper coffee 😍
They also used to give us free stuff with the company logo on it all the time, so we were like a walking advert when we weren’t at work. I got a great insulated mug, car air fresheners, an umbrella - useful stuff!
