I'll go first - nothing being crispy and no texture, so slop on a plate.

mushrooms

Especially poison ones

localnotail · 09/07/2025 18:12

Undercooked meat/ overcooked veg. And gravy.

Edited: Overcooked meat and undercooked veg is also gross. As any of the combinations.

Sourisblanche · 09/07/2025 18:13

Paying £5-7 for vegetables alongside your main meal. Just serve a meal including veg. Veg is cheap.

Also triple cooked chips = dry chips imho.

Coriander! Tastes like washing up liquid!
mismatched cutlery or bent cutlery.
Not enough gravy!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/07/2025 18:14

Coriander leaf. Herb of Satan.

For the artery/valve/tube haters - my mum used to make casseroled lambs heart. We got one each and it was …. interesting, to dissect your dinner! And I once found a cardboard label stapled to the heart I was eating.

People who think salt and pepper are seasoning and bland food 🤢

PeachPumpkin · 09/07/2025 18:17

People who think their plate and cutlery are percussion instruments and bang and clatter their way through the meal.

LillyPJ · 09/07/2025 18:17

A caterpillar on your salad.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 09/07/2025 18:17

The lack of a nice glass of red.🍷 Or white. 🥂

You must hate Indian food, it is one of the main ingredients in a dish.

Lack of seasoning used in cooking. I find it irrationally disappointing!

I hate too much seasoning. If people like more, they can just add more but it's impossible to take it out.

A caterpillar on your salad.

Multiple caterpillars in your cauliflower cheese!

When I’m away from home:

Not having a napkin/kitchen roll for sticky lips or fingers.
I hate having to ask for this.

I hate having to eat a delicate or light pudding aka dessert with a big spoon. Eg strawberries and cream or ice cream, I like a teaspoon.

Whispers off “snobby cow!”

I have to have a tiny spoon too. It just tastes better.

Kelticgold · 09/07/2025 18:23

Gravy in a Pyrex.

RabbitsRock · 09/07/2025 18:23

Hard boiled eggs in a dish - DM used to make something with fennel, breadcrumbs & hardboiled eggs & even thinking about it makes me feel sick. I do like eggs but not whole in things!

MonGrainDeSel · 09/07/2025 18:23

Someone else putting the food on the plates. I want to be able to have the right amount of everything not what someone else thinks is the right amount of everything.

WhatdoesitmeanKeith · 09/07/2025 18:23

Being with someone who narrates everything they’re eating. This is lovely! Mmmm, try the xyz… so tender! Generally with some accompanying appreciative noises as well.

I absolutely cannot bear it.

BreadInCaptivity · 09/07/2025 18:26

For a roast dinner specifically, not enough gravy…well actually not enough of pretty much everything.

’‘Tis a sorry sight when you look at your plate and see a sliver of meat, a solitary roast potato, no Yorkshire’s and heapings of overcooked veg.

More generally anything when a hot meal is served cold due to general pfaffing around by the cook and plates not being warmed.

Knowsley · 09/07/2025 18:30

Cutlery that feels wrong.

Ems235 · 09/07/2025 18:31

Having a bacon/sausage sandwich in a cafe/restaurant and the sandwich isn't buttered.

Game0fCrones · 09/07/2025 18:33

Cold plates and anything spicy.

Lunaballoon · 09/07/2025 18:34

Meat and two veg type meals where the veg is microwaved from frozen and the gravy’s some kind of brown powder/boiled water mix … sorry MIL I know you think cooking is a massive chore but food has evolved a lot since the 1950s!

SaintGermain · 09/07/2025 18:34

No seasoning and undercooked vegetables .

EveryDayisFriday · 09/07/2025 18:38

Coriander, hate it. I love mint though.
Non crispy and unsmoked bacon - give me crispy and smoky please.
