I'll go first - nothing being crispy and no texture, so slop on a plate.

Cheap ingredients and no care in the cooking. This is why I hardly eat out any more.

hattie43 · 09/07/2025 17:41

Seeing liver and bacon on the plate

Woodchipping · 09/07/2025 17:45

Bread with either no butter or - even worse - unsalted butter. Bread needs salted butter.

plantsnpants · 09/07/2025 17:48

Any liquid invading any other part of the meal- for example bean juice on a full English breakfast - beans need to be contained in a pot

When you go out for Sunday lunch to a place that's supposed to do really good ones and the variety of veg is pathetic. So, the meat is lovely - nice medium rare beef for example - the yorkshire puddings are clearly homemade and great, the gravy is nice but you get a bit of broccoli, some carrots and maybe french beans to go with it. Why don't they do mashed swede, leeks in white sauce or savoy cabbage. And why always french beans instead of lovely, in season runner beans? I actually enjoy a good variety of seasonal veg as much as the meat. Rant over.

Waiting too long for it. I'm either so hungry I feel a bit sick and then don't want it, or I've had too many nibbles because I'm starving, and spoiled my appetite. I'm not a great one for coping with delays as it is, but when it's a meal, I'm raging.

I am sure im not your mum, but I had to stop cooking pork i was so bad at it !

The quality of pork has deteriorated an awful lot in recent years in my opinion, other than pork fillet which is usually tender most of the roasts of pork are next to impossible to cook nicely. I have given up on supermarket/butcher stuff and buy direct from a farm maybe twice a year due to cost but it's lovely stuff, more like we had years ago!

TheSoapyFrog · 09/07/2025 17:58

Fruity things in a savoury dish - apple sauce with pork, raisins or sultanas in curries etc, cheese with fruit in it, cranberry sauce etc.

Overcooked meat.

cocoonscriticupgrading · 09/07/2025 17:59

What one thing is that ruins a dinner? Cold plates.

Katherineryan1986 · 09/07/2025 18:00

Over seasoning or overuse of herbs etc. My husband goes by the mantra that more is more unfortunately and although i tell him he still overdoes it.

A valve / tube / artery in your beef burger.

Edited

I just threw up in my mouth. You can get them in flank steak too. A open tube. Gristle also makes me physically ill. I can’t stomach either. It’s disgusting.

Catladywithoutacat · 09/07/2025 18:05

No seasoning or over seasoned

blunderbuss12 · 09/07/2025 18:05

Person at the table next to you having a conversation with their phone on loudspeaker

threenaancurrywhore · 09/07/2025 18:07

Overcooked chicken so it’s all rubbery. Burned garlic. Undercooked potatoes. Bitter raising agent in a cake. Yes yes yes to the tubes – I’ve puked many a lamb chop that way and don’t bother cooking them any more. The cook being all antsy and apologetic and explanatory about the food, all “Try this part” and “Is it OK?” and “You should have some of this on that” OMG STOP BACKSEAT EATING.

mambojambodothetango · 09/07/2025 18:07

Cutlery that isn't comfortable to hold.

My mum. Her cooking is legendary. And not in a good way.
