To do something at work I've already been bollocked for and received a warning for twice?

I've name changed for this but here goes.

For the last 3 weeks I've been doing something at work that hasn't impacted anyone at all and nobody has noticed...until Monday. On Monday a senior manager discovered what I'd been doing and was angry and asked my supervisor to have a word with me. The supervisor had a word and told me not to do it again. I apologised and said I wouldn't even though I don't really have an option but to continue doing it.

However, the very next day (Tuesday, yesterday) I did it again. I didn't expect anyone to notice, as like I said, I've been doing this thing for 3 weeks and nobody's noticed. Well, obviously someone was keeping an eye on me because I got caught and this time I got a proper telling off and a 'record of discussion' is now going on my file.

Now, my AIBU is, I really don't have much choice but to continue doing the thing, at least for the time being, so would it be really that bad to do it again on my next shift which is the weekend, where there will be skeleton staff who won't know I've already been in trouble?

Just to add, many staff members are doing a very, very, similar thing openly but slightly differently which I feel is unfair. And, to clarify, it's not office based; we are an establishment that is supposed to be all about supporting 'the thing' I'm doing.

you do seem to be pretty foolish if well meaning

Agree. Annoying as fuck

I dunno. The thread was more fun before we found out she’s behaving like an idiot.

Although I would like to see an animation of the swallows being fed dog food off the end of a kebab stick. Do you think she was standing on a stack of chairs or was she being held aloft by her very tall boyfriend with a more than passing resemblance to Jason Mamoa?

When I read it as if OP was letting off nuclear farts it just made the whole post so funny 😄

I read it as if she was poohing on the desks or stealing cash from the till.

That's a really kind thing you're doing, OP

No, it is not a "kind" thing to do. It is irresponsible and potentially endangering others in the practice. It is not in the bird's interests either if this bird can never survive in the wild. Op is doing this because she thinks she is being 'kind' but it is a rather narcissistic thing to do.

Total agreement with you there @miraxxx . Would you like to pop round later for a wee dram while we watch the swifts hurtling?

Papering · 09/07/2025 18:03

I think an analogy might be a grey squirrel. A baby squirrel fell out of its nest and was brought into my DD’s surgery. They are supposed to PTS because it’s an invasive species. She didn’t and found an ‘underground’ wildlife rescue to take it. The difference is, it wasn’t threatening other squirrels or mammals in the area (in London no reds).

Catladywithoutacat · 09/07/2025 18:03

Can you not take the bird home they seem to me your work don’t want the bird in there

She did... but keeps bringing it into work to feed it.

Mansionscoldandgrey · 09/07/2025 18:07

Is this you pretending to be the bird's mummy?

I was literally just coming on here to post ‘Avian Flu’ and you’ve said it.

You think it’s acceptable to take a possible carrier into a vets where it might pass on Avian Flue to people’s pets?

If I thought anyone at our vets was irresponsible enough to take an unvaccinated cat or dog to work I’d be bloody livid.

This! I'm not understanding the eyeroll from OP.

NotEnoughRoom · 09/07/2025 18:12

Whilst it is a kind thing to do for the bird, the fact that:

  • there is a high risk of bird flu, (which you’ve 🙄about, despite working in a vets and therefore should be taking seriously),
  • you’ve been reprimanded twice already and
  • are considering doing it again anyway,
my advice would be - crack on.

either you don’t care about your job and want to get fired, or you’re a pain in the ass to work with and your boss will be glad of the reason to get rid.

either way, you’ll have plenty of free time to look after the bird.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

Come on OP! Photo or it never happened 😉

This is him/her. Baby magpie.

I started off being sooooo irritated by this thread and now I’m fully invested. Doed he have a name?

ShamrockShenanigans · 09/07/2025 18:16

MurdoMunro · 09/07/2025 17:45

It’s a pigeon. I am firmly of the belief that its a pigeon and this is why after many requests to disclose the species she refuses to say.

I don't think that's the reason she refuses to say.

I think she's just refusing so she can make it even more of a clickbait thread.

AgnesX · 09/07/2025 18:17

Could the RSPB not take your bird?

I kind of understand where your employer is coming from. Bird flu is a big deal although I don't know how transmittable it is in your kind of environment - big enough that you've told off for having your bird on the premises I guess.

Try and find an alternative before you get fired.

Chaotica · 09/07/2025 18:20

GingerGeorgie · 09/07/2025 18:14

This is him/her. Baby magpie.

Aw. Cute little dude. FWIW OP, I'd do the same thing. I don't know whether it's worth losing your job over though - could you get your DS on board with this?

Notouchingmybhuna · 09/07/2025 18:20

What happens if you can’t carry on?

MurdoMunro · 09/07/2025 18:22

Well I was wrong about it being a pigeon. But you are right about click baiting.

Nice magpie @GingerGeorgie but you haven’t a leg to stand on at work. You need another plan.

BrainWontWorkAnymore · 09/07/2025 18:22

Oh good, please be careful - if the crows find out you’ve kidnapped a fellow corvid, your days could be numbered. There used to be a lady on here who posted about walking her dog and feeding them then one day, she didn’t post her update… 🧟‍♀️

HunnyPot · 09/07/2025 18:23

MurdoMunro · 09/07/2025 17:38

No they’re not.

Wrong!

ThisHeartySloth · 09/07/2025 18:23

Did they say why you couldn't? Was it the time taken, or the fact it's a wild bird (rather than a dog)?

BusyExpert · 09/07/2025 18:23

You cannot lose a job over a baby bird where are you if you live near me I will look after it

HappenstanceMarmite · 09/07/2025 18:23

Are you breast feeding the chick? Do your nipples toughen up to the beak?

BrainWontWorkAnymore · 09/07/2025 18:24

Could you keep it in a cat basket outside?

HunnyPot · 09/07/2025 18:24

PhilippaGeorgiou · 09/07/2025 17:53

Tell us you didn't read the thread without telling us you didn't read the thread.

Why the fuck would I read a full thread?

I just post and ruffle the bird’s feathers 🤣
